I have been taking strattera for about 8 months, I thought it was working until I went to a CHADD meeting last week. Now i am switching to Adderall 20. How long does it take to start working and is is a good one.

I love Adderall. What are you looking for in an ADHD med (that Strattera didn't satisfy)? I've never tried Strattera, or any of the "non-stimulant" meds... but from what I've heard from friends who've taken Strattera, I'd guess that Adderall will make you more energized, and possibly also more anxious and irritable. Sometimes all of the energy is distracting in itself.
Adderall starts working immediately (which is why it has such appeal on college campuses). Some people stay on 20mg, the average is 40mg, and 60-80mg is the highest dose, though 80mg is rarely prescribed. I'm prescribed 60mg, but usually take 20-40mg. 60mg makes me feel kinda cracked out, and stay up all night. The nice part about the med is that it can be prescribed on an "as needed" basis. I stopped it cold turkey this Christmas, with no withdrawal symptoms. Jessie |

Hi, I take and have been taking Adderal XR 40mg/day for a couple of years now, and before that was the Concerta. I have not been on the Strattera med for ADHD, thogh I am wondering if you are talking about Adderal XR or the Adderal tablet? I take the XR, once a day everyday though I believe the regular form of Adderal tablet is not time released and I believe that the doses of the non XR is taken in doses more than one time per day. I prefer the XR over the regular Adderal. The problem I have experienced with the XR that it is more difficult to try and reduce the doseage as it can not be tapered as easily. Good luck and best wishes--KK101

I love adderrall as well! I am prescribed 60mg XR daily. Most of the times I only take 30. I like how it makes me feel normal. Defined as "Content in my skin" My only fear is my heart exploding because of the way it increases your heart race and if you do a lot of activity....yeah....otherwise I have no complaints. I have taught myself to eat, as it decreases your appetite. With the time released, the adderrall peaks in seven hours, compared to four hours on the regular. So the earlier I take it the earlier i can go to sleep at night. Best of luck!

I have just been diagnosed with ADD, though I've suspected it for a good while - can't focus on work, wandering thoughts, etc. Took my first dose of Adderal this morning - sure hope it helps. Any advice or cautions?

How long after you took it did you write your post? Cause it usually kicks in after 30 minutes... if you didn't notice anything then the dose was probably too low. Adderall's not like most meds, you don't have to wait for it to build up in your system to feel a difference. It's instantaneous. What was the dose? |

No, I wouldn't say it's sad at all.
It makes me very happy to think that you are interested in being introspective -- in "figuring it all out." This is a scary venture at first, isn't it? But once you do it, you feel compelled to do it, and realize that the hardest part was just being scared to take a look under the covers. The really nice thing - and the secret - about doing introspection is that you never find things you're ashamed or scared of; all you find are parts of yourself that need healing and love. This is where true confidence, wisdom, knowledge, and self-esteem come from. One thing I would recommend is to not expect any medicine to turn everything in your life around: people with ADD very often have a lot of guilt and anxiety as a result of people (including themselves!) treating them unfairly, and not taking the time to understand and accept them for who they are as people. For this, I personally recommend meditation, and the book You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Stupid, or Crazy?. I also recommend Buddhism! I have found Buddhism to be very helpful in discovering what life is really about -- what the core truths about reality are. Buddhism helped me to see my discontentments and upsetness, and to discover what they were really about. I believe Buddhism can be a great asset and ally for ADD people -- and anyone in general! It's not a religion as much as it is a way of living and seeing the world. And it comes along with meditation, which is invaluable. Whether you follow Buddhism or not, I believe meditation is very important for ADD and in general. Just take it a day at a time! ![]() |

I have been told I have ADHD and I think going on ADDERALL might be a good thing. I have been buying products at the natural food store such as ephedra, yerba matte, liccorice, and taking cyeanee pepper pills. I still feel ill. The ill feeling comes because, I am swerving and speeding into conversations, running litteraly into people places and things. Even the glasses to see better with havn't slowed me down enough to just plain "Feel good" I got an old old doctor to perscribe me Clonimpermine which is taken for OCD. I know I am OCD but I go far out of my way to not do it. It hurts my head so much to not do the impulses that I need to take Fluexotine because of the migraines that come. Diet is filled with Omega 3 and 6 oils which are a mircle cure for quite a bit. Also I began to take folic acid and B12 and B6. Anyone wish to comment to this post?

joebear said: I am trying to get started on meds; VA docs seem to shy away from prescribing anything for this,

I understand you perfectly. My Pdoc will perscribe me anything especially downers but when it comes to treating me for ADHD, he points his nose way up high in the air, wispers something about Sexuality and dumb women and writes out a Zoloft perscription. I used to be able to get prozac, which really helped but actually made me hyper, but when I take Clonopromine and ritilin type drugs, I get real focused and real calm and seem to do pretty darn good. There must be a stigma about giving pretty women ADHD diagonisis's and prescribing them the correct drugs that would be curative but they would rather watch the woman live a desheveled quear screwed up existance and call those women lower class types of lost causes. That's the truth, that I saw. The only Doctor that did not do that to me was in my old home town and since I moved away, no one cares about me.
