Does anyone else have fits of rage over small little things? It seems I have no control over my tempter sometimes. The smallest thing will set me off, like my dog not listening when I call him. I am not violent but I get really upset and starting slamming doors and yelling. Then 5 minutes later I am fine again. Anyone else experience this?

Yes, I do. The other day I nearly flew off the handle at my boyfriend - he has this nasty habit of asking retorical questions, or questions he knows I cannot possibly have the answers too e.g. What will the weather be like tomorrow?

In front of him I counted aloud to 10. He looked at me like I was a moron, and I actually began to get a stupid grin across my face. But it diffused the situation and bought me a bit of time to ensure my response wasn't emotional.

On the other hand, I got so frustrated the other day, I punched the wall and door. All I landed up with was a VERY sore hand.
Thanks for this!

Me too...I experience this...
Apparently since childhood, the worst part is, there are fits of rage where I don't actually remember my actual actions, nearly landed up in jail once too...
Not proud of these, I too practice breathing now, and pray it goes away.
Also I've learned to expel it via tears, which is safer (for everyone).

You are not alone. XOXO

This would be why some of our remotes are duct tapped together.

I've always had a problem with rage. When I was in school and I couldn't figure out how to do my homework, I would start screaming and throwing things around my room. Usually 10-20 mins later a switch would flip and I would be fine and able to finish my homework.

I still have issues like that, when I am at work and can't figure something out. The only difference is that I can go take a smoke break and get out of the building before I rage on someone.
Thanks for this!

I am exacltye like you. I start yelling and stuff. I mean I don't get physical or take my anger out on others but I just kind of get mad at myself that nothing is working the way it should for me.

One of the biggies are when my sisters plug thier hair straightners into the bathroom out let and don't plug the night light back in. Or when they leave empty soda cans laying around or they wear thier softball cleats throughout the house. I mean I can go on forever but I will spare us all my ranting.

The point is I know what your going through and every one thinks I am the one who need help lol. I think I posted something like this a few days ago actualy.

Thanks for the post!

Roman.

Oh yes. Holy cow, yes. The smallest things have sent me into major rages over the years. Hands down it's been my most personally mortifying behavior. Far and away. Very occasionally, I can diffuse. Usually it's more like a flash of white hot lightning. A switch is flipped and look out. Yelling, screaming and flailing? Oh yes. Violence? Yes, though it is *some* consolation that it's mainly directed at myself and inert objects. I like to think that I remember these occasions. And I do. Because I'm mortified when they're over. But, in fairness, I would doubtless be even more mortified if I could actually see myself in the process. It's bad.
*But*, I've found it is far far far less of an issue when my meds are working. Since then I've only had one minor flip out where I hurled myself against a building. Yeah. In public. (And yeah, that's minor for me). But at least I managed to get outside before it unleashed...
It's way up there on the list of self-loathing attributes...

This made me smile! Recently I was upset over something so stupid and refused to get in the car because I was crying and being so upset! I made my boyfriend walk home with me instead of riding with everyone else... lol

I'm much better than I used to be, but cords irritate me to no end, wrinkles in the blankets, the tag on the blanket better not even think of being at the top of the bed either lol, people who eat loud. These things set me off man. Once I even cried because I couldn't find the right socks. I've punched things, threw things (almost broke my friends head with a hairbrush back in the day by throwing it), driving is always a bad idea.. etc on and on I could go!

Oh yeah... and things that repeat set me straight off, like video game music and dvd menus. When I get into fits of rage I've described it as being so angry I would literally burst into flames if it were possible for me to do so and then I'd probably burn the house down! This sounds nuts to me right now, but when I feel like that, man oh man! I light things on fire with my mental flames all the time hahahaha!

I mostly get the "rages" during major depressive episodes. I can explode off very little things. During hypomania/mania I get irritable and frustrated at anyone or anything that disrupts my creative thought processes, and I will probably snap at them.

Said I hate him, he makes my life hell, wish I never met him....I felt horrible as soon as I said it but he was being mean2me, bringing up the past&making me feel like he was accusing me of something. Sometimes I get so pissed&I scream&yell&sometimes I throw things, too. Its bad cuz I know its coming, my eyes start2burn, I feel like everything is red, my heart races&then I flip out. I tried counting to10but it just gives me10seconds more2get good and angry.

OMG!! Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I swear to God I was the only one on the planet having these flashes of rage! I tend to get really irate about MY personal things that my typical husband leaves anywhere and everywhere and is a disorganized mess. I don't know how many times I've been so close to breaking his things cause he don't put mine back. Or when I have to tear about his piles of things to get to the buried one that I need...I have thrown things in fits of rage.

I have several animals, dogs and cats and I've been learning to control myself so as not to scare them. But what are you suppose to do in the mean time???

I feel like I found the key to my understanding. I am not alone. Sometimes it really depends on my mood, how well I handle things. If I'm already off the handle or anxious, forget, rage is coming.
Thanks for this!

You know what I think is the most amazing thing to calm you down? Holding your animal! I don't know how big your dogs are, but your cats are at least small enough to hold. Pick them up when you get angry or feel a bad mood coming on and I swear it helps to combat it. Knowing that they love and trust you is such an awesome feeling.

I have a bunny who is the cutest best little thing ever! I've found no better cure for my sad/bad mood than being with her. When I get upset and am about to cry, or even if I am crying, I'll get her and she gives me bunny kisses! Bunny kisses are the ultimate cure for bad moods. She's better than any medication lol and I think it's largely because she is cute and sweet and also most importantly that she trusts me so much. Because she is a prey animal, it is somewhat of an honor that she has let me in...

Right now she is inside one of my pillowcases digging or burrowing. She's so cute!

I think we are just a bit more sensitive.
I do however hate acting like an enraged animal...

Your partner needs to be aware of what your triggers are and do his/her best not to push them.
My horse used to do wonders for my moods. Firstly they are a wonderfully calming influence, and secondly - try lose your temper with a 500kg animal! They are awesome at putting you in your place. They also ensure you practice emotional congruency i.e. not wearing a mask. The emotion you therefore project is the real emotion you are experiencing.
I think often rage is a mask for something else e.g. fear.
