I have been on Trileptal for 2 weeks now and have just stablized. However the last 2 days, I have developed double vision, dizziness from the double vision, and nauseaus from it. My pharamcist told me to stop it and call my dr. She hasn't gotten back to me and I am starting to escalate, getting higher and higher.
Just got back from my therapist and she told me to play the Wii or draw or write. There is a problem with the writing and the drawing, because I just cannot sit still. Is there anyone out there who has any advice on coping skills I can use so I can combat it until my dr. gets back to me? ![]() |

Is there any emergency after hours number you can use to reach your doctor? Or you can go do a walk in or something tomorrow? If you can't sit still maybe just walk in place until you're tired enough to sleep? I wish I had better advice, I hope you get some help with your symptoms, sounds miserable :-(

Wow- I really would have assumed your doc would have helped you out a bit more. When can u get in to see her? If things do get too much, pls get someone to take you to the ER, where they will be able to help you. A mood stabiliser is so important for us! Are you on any other meds? Please be weary if you are taking an AD, and are not on a stabiliser, as it can cause mania.

How can a dr not beable to thing of another med to put you on? That is what they are suppose to do. When do you see her again.

I don't see her for another 2 weeks. When I was with my therapist yesterday, she told my pdoc what was going on and my pdoc got back to me and told me to go on just 2 Trileptals but it is causing me to have double vision because it has built up in my system. She also told me to go on Seroquel XR again and I refuse to do that because it makes me so numb and I lose my creativity and my personality. I hate Seroquel XR.
I guess I will just get manic and escalate until I see her. She is a true ***** at heart and when she is stressed out she takes it out on her patients. However, when we meet one-to-one, she is awesome and will just BS with you and actually notice what you are like and will tweak your meds. just by gauging her patients when she just BS's with them. ![]() ![]() I love getting hypo., but when I get really, realy high, I can get delusional and psychotic and that's what scares me. |

Well I don't know if this is an option for you but maybe you need to switch to another psychiatrist. It doesn't sound like a good fit.

It's unacceptable for her to leave you for two weeks, when she knows how fragile your recovery is. Keep a diary, if you can, record your symptoms, how long you sleep (or rather how little). Be prepared if things get really bad to walk into hospital ... Who is there around you who can help?

My husband is at work and he keeps calling me to make sure I am okay. He told me to keep taking the Klonopin even if it exceeds the dosage prescribed because he doesn't like when I fly too high and neither do I.
I really do like my pdoc, but whenever she has a lot of crises at once, she gets stressed out and cannot deal with all of them so I am just going in to see her as high as a kite and tell her what a ***** she is to her patients just because she is stressed out. She is easy to talk to and will listen to me while I am sitting in her office and I am very honest with her. |

SunAngel, would you consider the Seroquel just till you see her? You can tell her you don't want to stay on it at your appt. Being a bit numb is better than an all out mania, in the short term.

I will deal with the mania by playing my WII and getting my energy out that way. I would go for a walk but in CT, it is over 100 degrees out today. I will deal with it somehow. |

It might be worth a try to do as she asked. Maybe it would help to get your mood lowered. I'm just saying...

I refuse to just exist on this planet, even if it's for 2 weeks. I do not want to miss out on life like I had to do when I was on it for so long. I lost out on life so much and refuse to do it again, even if it's just 2 weeks. So no, I will never go on it again.

That is very irresponsible of your doctor. I doubt she'd want to be in your shoes right now. Hopefully it is not too long until your appointment. I would call her back and tell her she needs to do something NOW - at least prescribe an anti-anxiety med to calm you down.

Keep writing here as well, to help monitor your mood, but also because it gives you another outlet to express your feelings. We're all on your side, and worried about you... hang on in there, I understand your feelings about seroquel. Also there's the risk that once you're on it the pdoc may decide it's a done deal and keep you on it.

I was only suggesting the seroquel in the short term to avoid a full-blown mania until she gets you on something else. I definitely understand why you'd want something else long-term.
I would make another phone call and tell them you are nearing a crisis and must be seen asap. [She] "can't think of another med" is a pretty bizarre statement coming from a doctor who specializes in psychiatry and presumably psych meds! You just have a little longer to wait, Monday morning you can call and get the process going. It sounds like you are using good coping skills. It'll be over soon, hang in there. ![]() |

My husband suggested taking more Klonopin while I am like this. I am allowed 4 a day, but was only taking 2. I upped the dose to 4 and it has calmed me down considerably.
I am going to give her a call on Monday to let her know that I am getting manic and if she is at all *****y or rude to me, I am just going to have to find another pdoc. It's a difficult thing to find one, but I need one who will listen to me, stressed or not.

When I moved a year ago I still haven't found the right Dr. I still travel 300 miles to go to my original one - he is the only one who understands me at least a little bit.

I called her and she told me to call on Monday to get in to see her this coming week.
I also told her that I didn't like the fact that she said she was stressed out and couldn't even think enough to help out one of her patients. I know they are human, but they should always be professional. She apologized, but I am going to talk to her about it again when I see her this coming week.

You might ask for someone she would have for you that is on call for her. She should have someone if she is unable to work. It would be a real deal breaker for me.

I developed severe hyponatremia (low blood sodium) from trileptal. The nausea is one of the symptoms. You shouldn't stay on it for 2 more weeks without getting the bloodwork done.
Re: the Seroquel XR, you are only supposed to take it in the evening before bed...good sleep and no daytime tiredness. Good luck! |

I am not a doctor but what has helped me is taken my xanax. Although I just spoke to new pdoc and told her how I have been dealing with taking them to help me not head to the mania psychosis, she was alright with it. Can you call your pdoc and ask if you can do the same. It at least helped me relax or even get some restful sleep, even if it was for short hours but something is better then nothing.

Absolutely SunnyD. It would be a deal breaker for me too, and it has on more than one occasion. Remember that THEY WORK FOR YOU, not the other way around. You are the one who pays their salary!

Guys, I have an appt. with her on Wed. I don't like Seroquel XR. I do take it at night and wake up feeling very numb the whole day and I am just existing.
I went off the Trileptal and the Seroquel XR so I am on no mood stablizier right now. I will look for another pdoc, but this one was even hard to find. She is a true ***** in every sense of the word, but I have to see her until I can find someone else. If anyone lives in CT, let me know of a good one. Thx. for all the replies. I have to run to the store right now. Hope to be back soon. Everyone have a great day.
