I think this is something I need to do. I have never had one before. My insurance covers the first 6 visits absolutely free so really I have nothing to lose.

Has therapy helped you? How often do you go?

I'm not currently seeing a therapist, but I won't hesitate to go if I need to.

They've helped me tremendously over the years.

Hope that helps you with your decision making.

What is about therapy that helps you? Is it just having someone to talk to or do they teach you things to help yourself overcome your issues?

My therapist does both. We built a trust and understanding by sharing. This foundation allowed me to go further into my self and with her to find what I need, but also to find and appreciate all I have in there.

She has taught me ways to look at myself and modify my self talk. She has shown me ways to reign in my monsters without closing the door to all my beauty.
My T is awesome. She is such a good teacher that I've been able o pass along some of my skills to a very close friend...

My therapist first helped me with coping strategies using CBT. Now, she helps me talk through anything. Usually it is family or work related. Also, my therapist is a clinical psychologist, so she helps me to identify times that the bp is interfering with my daily life.

Being able to talk about what's bothering me sometimes helps me to figure out a solution on my own ... Other times the therapist can provide input and insight that I've overlooked which helps me to come up with a solution ... Other times it helps me to work through some painful things while having the support of an empathetic and compassionate ear.

I can then draw on the things I've learned to help me work through future issues ... Then, if I find myself stuck again, I can always go back in for a "tune up" ... Which is what I like to call it because I know I can count on them to help me through the rough patches and show me new skills to utilize over and over again.

I do see a therapist. I go at least once a week to discuss personal goals and growth. Sometimes when it gets bad I see her twice a week... If things are going really well I will see her once every 2 weeks. It fluctuates. I always find it helpful and productive

Since there are many types to choose, I can recommend Mindfulness Therapy & REBT for really direct coping skills to learn. Very helpful for me.

Lol I did REBT with my son, I got pissed off with it sometimes too. Awesome therapist, i once asked him, "Do we really have to ABC every week?". He said yes and explained to me that this was the type of therapy they do with the boys at the boarding school. But I'm grateful for the skills learned. I try to ABC when really angry if I remember or can slow down enough before I do or say something I regret, and it then helps my communication too. I don't think I ever had a therapy where I wasn't pissed off at some point. It's hard but worth it.

Can't afford one. My psychiatrist will talk for a short amount of time though usually about recommending I get more of a social life outside my kids.

Yes, therapy has helped but I only go ever 2 weeks. Therapy has kept me accountable and out of the hospital. We go over a summary everything between sessions. Then go from there.
What is about therapy that helps you? I don't know. She keeps all my random thoughts and helps me make sense of them. Sometimes T does offer suggestions.

I do see a clinical psychologist. It helps to have someone to talk through difficult issues with. She often gives me advice. And also repeats what I've told her but from a different angle, and it's surprising how often I work out the answers myself
