I've been on lamictal for almost 4 months now.

I haven't had hypomania in over a month.

I'm at 200mg of lamictal

and been on 200mg of seroquel XR for 2.5 weeks.

I'm depressed still. I feel the latical has stopped me from going high and the seroquel stops suicidal thoughts.

Does anyone else not get hypomania/mania while on lamictal?

I've search and people say lamictal makes them go hypomanic/manic, but I'm the opposite?

I have been on 200 mg of lamictal since August 21st. I have definitely not been hypomanic or manic on it. I know it's supposed to be an "activating" medication and very good in preventing bipolar depression. I've been in a bad depression since early August. Obviously, I need an antidepressant med change.

I've been on Lamictal for a while now and for me it's had the opposite affect. It's suppose to level out your mood so you don't have the constant up and down. Which for me it has kept me out of depression (not including very few very mild hiccups of depression) for the most part it has kept me in a state of hypo-mania if not complete mania.

Isn't it supposed to have anti-depressant qualities?

I've been on it a week, and i have no idea if it's the Lamictal or just a placebo, but I've noticed when I've hit lows (I'm rapid cycling) they're not as deep as the lows last week. I haven't had suicidal thoughts.

From what my doctor has told me it does/can have an anti-depressant effect in some patients. I too have rapid cycle and because I had 2 manic/suicide attempt (which can happen is some people) due 2 different ad's they won't give me any ad's anymore and Lamictal helps with the depression without shooting me into extreme manic episodes.

Honestly, I'm glad to be off ADs.

From everything I'm reading, they are just much too risky if you've got BP.

I looooove Lamictal. Until a trigger in August I was doing quite well since 2011, I am starting to feel better, I was experiencing a bit of depression.

It's a mood stabilizer with antidepressant action. It's an anti-convulsant used to help with mood swings. I'm on a low dose and I use it with Zoloft and abilify.

I've been on Lamictal for a year and a half. I haven't noticed any effect whatsoever on mania. I haven't been thrown into an episode, and it hasn't kept me from having an episode. I haven't been depressed since I hit 200mg about a year ago, though.

Everyone in my family is on lamictal none of us have had (hypo)mania because of lamictal. How it was explained to us is:
Everyone has a normal baseline, some have a high baseline (think of the bubbly people), and some baselines lay in a low level depression. Lamictal is suppose to help the second category. That doesn't mean an AD is not required to bring a person to a more normal baseline.

I am taking 200 of Lamictal along with 1200 of Neurotin, 150 of Vistaril, and 25 of Trazadone. The way my psych explained it to me is that Lamictal is a mood stabilizer (I take it for mood swings associated with BPD), supposed to keep you from feeling such extreme emotions. You may still feel depressed and sad, but it's supposed to help the feeling not consume you. She also said it's supposed to give you a slower acceleration from going from 0-100 when you're in high stress situations. I still have crappy feelings with it, but I do think it helps.

I've been on Lamictal for about 6 years now. Has helped enormously with depression and somewhat with the milder hypomania's. But it is not enough to prevent full-blown mania in my case. I take Seroquel as well, for this. I don't think it's known to be activating. Some people, I think, take it for unipolar depression and as someone mentioned, I've heard of it being prescribed for BPD.
