I hate showers. I do them when I absolutely have to, but I hate feeling wet and cold, especially in the winter.

I usually take baths instead. Baths aren't as cold, and they don't require as much bodily energy.
Thanks for this!

and they can be relaxing because you don't have water coming down on you all the time.

again, whole diffrent topic. i wonder if a pole went up.. do you prefer baths or showers, what the results would be.

Thank you for the reply Angelique 67, I just wish I could get to the root of the reason, because maybe if I could find the reason I could fix it.
Thanks for this!

What helps me lately is to mark on my mood chart when I shower or wash my hair. Then, even if I do t think it's been long, I can see how long it's been and try to motivate myself to get it done.
Thanks for this!

I much prefer baths to showers because it's more relaxing. I take a shower every third day, only because that's when I wash my hair. My hair doesn't need washing on the first or second day after it's washed, plus I don't want to dry it out further.

what a good idea that is and i'm glad it's working.

my prroblem with that idea is that i'll probably always forget to mark it, either that or put it off by moving the date to something else

I had never heard this before, and It amazes me. I have gone a few days without showers for sure. Especially when I don't need to interact with people.

I wish someone knew the answer. I don't take as many showers as I should either. It's not the feel of the the water or the sound, it's just overwhelming, wash my hair, shave my legs, etc. I usually shower once to twice a week, wash up in between if I'm going somewhere and wash my hair 3 or more times a week if im going out. I always feel better after I shower but it's overwhelming to actually get in the shower. Even when I'm manic im the same way but when I'm in a deep depression I couldn't care less.

If I actually tracked it's probably less. My husband is disabled with PTSD and he is the same way although I've never asked him why.

honestly, i don't think their's 1 reason.

it's diffrent for diffrent people

for some people it be overwelming, some people don't have the energy, some people have physical problems that make it difficult, i could go on

I wonder if it is worse for women? If I shower I feel the need to shave my legs, condition my hair, comb out the tangles after the shower, etc. When You don't feel the energy, it is a big production.

I am utterly amazed at the responses to this thread. It is very reassuring to see that we are not alone in this battle for hygiene.

I have been taking a shower every three days. The pungent scent of body odor was the clue to me.

Lol, when my clothes run away, when I try to put them on, it's time for a shower.

I am sorry I cannot relate to this one since I shower daily and find it as a motivation for myself to get moving in the morning. Hope you find your answer.

Showering feels so good, but getting there is a pain. I think it's because I hate dealing with my hair. Drying, styling, etc. It's annoying! Then again, when I don't do my hair, I still have a hard time showering. The whole thing just sounds like too much effort.

Showering is a lot of work. And it takes a lot of hot water. There's exfoliating, pain old scrubbing, moisturizing, shaving freaking EVERYTHING, then washing butt length curly hair is a pain in the *** on its own... I think we women have it harder because there's so much WORK to be done in the shower. It's never relaxing, and we can't take the time to enjoy it. And in my house, I have hot water long enough to either wash myself, or my hair. Shaving takes place in a bath, and a hurried one, because the water gets cold fast, and there isn't enough hot water to reheat it.
Add to that the fact that my recently deceased mother came in every day to pee while I was in there and I REALLY don't care enough to shower.

I had no idea I wasn't alone on this. I shower about once a week, and try to wash my hair at least twice a week. I just can't get myself to do it more often. I've always been that way. There were times in my life that I showered maybe 3 times a week, but usually it's been 1-2 times a week tops. Even though I know I'll feel better after a shower I just can't bring myself to do it. Same goes for brushing my teeth.

Because I am holing up in my room, just taking the kids to school and back. I can wear the same clothes for a few days and go without showering for a few days.

It is just a chore when I am depressed. And I don't do a lot of chores at that time.

It is just 1 more hassle.

I wear the same clothes for a few days too. You're right, it is a chore. When you're depressed, chores are impossibly hard. When you're manic, who cares about chores, there are bigger and better things.

I shower every third day, it's the most I can manage. I only brush my teeth in the shower, too. Yes, it 's gross. I can't manage more though. Timing has to be JUST right or I will skip it. Everyone MUST still be asleep or I have to be home alone. In and out as fast as I can (I gave up shaving my legs years ago, takes too long. And I keep short hair so it doesn't take much to wash it).

I think it's more related to anxiety than depression for me - depression still plays a part, sure, but even when I'm hypo it's still an issue. I haven't been able to pinpoint the anxiety part... maybe because I haven't really tried.

Oh I am struggling with this at the moment. I am inpatient and have hot water, fresh towels, nice smelling soap, a scrub, a shower chair and everything I would want/need for an enjoyable shower. But will I do it daily - nope. And I cant tell you why. Its the idea of it that is daunting I guess, so vulnerable, and I hate drying off.

But at home I usually shower with my boyfriend. That helps a lot. But he isnt there every night and the water is luke warm at best.

I find if I have been out in the heat or have got visibly dirty I can make myself go straight to the shower as soon as I walk in the door, quick scrub then out and done. I feel like I dont get dirty enough inpatient to justify wasting precious water...

At the family ghetto, take a warm shower becomes a luxury. Whenever I live outside, shower is taken granted without much effort because warm water flowing from the faucet and a clean bath room is always available.

Sigh! Outside university everything I want is devoid. Not only does it lack peers of same studying fields but also lacks public bath rooms. Outside university is really a big desert. Here you also can't find an ideal place to study. When you want to make effort to leave it, you also lack the peer cheering. What a deplorable desert!

There was a time I was in the hospital and I thought the water from the shower was a nuclear weapon being used to wage spiritual warfare against my body. Mainly I have a hard time showering because I'm to fatigue and overwhelmed.
