Today my pdoc prescribed me Saphris and I'm just wondering when to take it? She told me to take it before bed, but my sleep schedule is incredibly inconsistent. Is taking it the same time every night sufficient, even if I'm not necessarily sleeping at that time? Or should I take it before sleeping regardless of when that is?

Based on my experience with it...

I would take it a reasonable consistant time every evening. Saphris would knock me out. The problem is, that if you take it too late, it may make it hard for you to get moving in the morning. So pick what a decent bedtime for you would be, and then take it maybe an hour before that time.
Thanks for this!

Take it right before you are ready to go to bed which means you may need to start getting more deliberate about your sleep schedule. It will absolutely knock you out within about half an hour of taking it. Do NOT try to do anything but put yourself to bed after you take it. Generally, I'd take it, wait the 10 minutes you have to wait before you can eat or drink anything. Then get something to drink and brush my teeth to get the nasty taste out of my mouth before I went to bed. I would start getting drowsy within about 20-25 minutes, head to bed and be out like a light pretty much right away.

I agree with that. I took it about 8:45PM so I could be asleep by about 9:30. That gave me a really good night's sleep and I had no hangover feeling when I got up in the morning about 7AM.
Thanks for this!

I guess now really is the time to pick my ideal bedtime and stick to it. It's gonna take some real adjusting because I haven't had a consistent sleep schedule in many years. Does it dissolve quickly? Not looking forward to the taste

You have to hold it under your tongue while it dissolves and then not eat or drink for 10 minutes if I remember right. The taste is absolutely horrendous but it worked well for my symptoms, so it was something I could deal with for a bit each night. It dissolves quickly, but the taste lasts quite awhile.

Saphris made me manic. It did not make me sleepy. I took it before bed every night. It also made the tip of my tongue numb. I had to stop after 2 months. I am extremely sensitive to meds so my experience is not the norm.

She did warn me about possible tongue numbness. She also said I could get possibly hypomanic from it but that it will level out within a few days to a week.

I'm taking it right now. This is gross but I have a lot of saliva buildup as it's dissolving. Is it ok to swallow that after it dissolves or do I spit it out?

My husband just swallows it. I don't know if anyone else here has had this experience but his Pdoc told him he could put HALF a tic tac under his tongue with it so the taste would be more bearable. He said it helps but it's still nasty.

Hubby takes his when he gets up. Then it knocks him out for about a 30 minute nap and he's fine the rest of the day. He said when he took it at bedtime he'd fall asleep within 30 minutes but only sleep for about 30-60 minutes then be awake for hours before he could go back to sleep.

I don't know if it matters but he's on 10 mg supposed to be twice a day but he takes both at once because Pdoc said it didn't matter as long as he got the full 20 mg dose in a day.

I take it right before I get in bed as it knocks me out pretty quickly.
