I'm feeling NUTS!!!!! I'm so tired and now my anxiety is over the top! I just don't understand why I'm either allergic to stuff or have atypical responses to meds. I have good stuff that is prescribed to me and NOTHING! They wire me or my body is relaxed but my mind is racing non-stop! I'm at a point now, that I just want an injection of something and let me sleep for a few days. Of course, that would probably work the opposite for me as well!

What are you guys taking!? I want knock out meds!

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I have a great pdoc. I saw her Tuesday and that is when we tried Temazepan and it wired me and I was up all night with anxiety. This med is supposed to be powerful and nothing! Then we've tried Belsomra the past few nights (last night max dose) and I was relaxed physically but my mind was wound up. I'm allergic to Trazadone. Ambien doesn't work. Before all of this I was taking 200mg of Benadryl (bad because it affects your metabolism, etc), and Clonidine. I'm continuing the Clonidine but might have to go back on the Benadryl.

I took a low dose of seroquel, it worked better than Benadryl since it made me hyper

Typical sleep meds (ambien and all that never worked for me. Even a low dose of seroquel might do the trick for you.
My pdoc told me if ambien didn't work...the rest in that class was most likely not to work eithergood luck!

200mg to 300mg of seroquel should knock you out. I hope you find something that works!

Did the Seroquel make you put on weight though? I'm trying to lose?

So three of you have said maybe Seroquel. Weight gain though? That's what I'm trying to get away from by cutting all the Benadryl out.

I only get hungry horrors on anything above 100 and the low doses are the best for sleep because they act differently depending on dose. Seriously 50mg prob do it

I didn't gain much with seroquel.

(But gabapentin for ****'s sake!)

I've never taken metformin.

I take hydroxyzine, which is a different approach. I believe it's also in the histamine family, but one use is for insomnia due to anxiety, etc. usually it works really well for me.....last night was an exception.
Thanks for this!

I go swimming to get my ya yas out. I'm working on no sugar past lunch. I only drink coffee in the am. I'm not supposed to but sometimes I have a cocktail.

Oh wow! Yeah, she has mentioned neurotin as well, but not for sleep, just anxiety and joint pain.

I know you mentioned thyroid issues before. B
hot flashes and not sleeping I think is a sign its over acting. Could that be possible?

I haven't started metfomin yet but my family dr said if I gain weight on clozaril I can and he sounded sort of like "yeah, why haven't we done that before?" so I think we'll let me even if I don't gain. I'm hoping that the Seroquel weight will take a hike on its' own. I've read that it sometimes does after a month so, it will just slowly start to go away and since I've been on so much for so long I'm assuming I have a better chance of that happening. Weight gain wasn't a big problem for me until I went over 600 mg so hopefully once I'm off completely it will take care of itself. But if not I'm ready for the metformin; I can't stand my body. The shape is changing b/c of menopause and nothing fits right an everything just makes me look fatter. I can't find things I like in my size and I'm sick of it. My scale broke and I don't even know what I weight right now. I lost 15 lbs in the summer and it didn't even show b/c of my weight all settling in my belly which is apparently a menopause thing.

I'm sure I'll post if I do it but I'm equally sure I won't be allowed to do anything of the sort for quite a while.

I've been taking metformin with bipolar meds for a long time. It helped me lose 40 lbs in the first couple of months and then kind of stopped helping me lose but it helped with appetite still. I stopped taking it a couple of months ago (dunno why) and I'm restarting it now and it's making me nauseous (that's one of the side effects) but I am hoping it will help me lose weight again since I've been off it for a while.

I'm asking my pdoc about it the next time I'm in her office! BTW, I finally got sleep but it was due to me going back on my old regimen. I kind of feel like a failure but it's better than how crazy it was making me! I was MISERABLE!

I use Benadryl, or Lunesta, or Klonopin depending on how badly I need to sleep. I have a pdoc though, and we watch the insomnia pretty closely.

Hashi/bipolar mom,

I'm like you when it comes to meds. I get the oddest sides or a completely opposite response. But I'm so sleep deprived, and have been for years, that I'm ready to make an attempt to deal with or live with, side effects, in order to sleep and try to get somewhat stable. Regarding Metformin, I've read some articles on BNN.com(BipolarNewsNetwork, which is run by a psychiatrist who is one of the world's experts on bipolar) that Metformin has been tried. successfully, as an add on to help psych patients lose medication induced weight gain, as well as lower the risk for metabolic syndrome. Research it, then talk with your pdoc.

I've been using 200mg of Benadryl a night for 8 years along with 1mg of Clonidine. My doctor wants me off the Benadryl because of weight gain. It affects your metabolism. I had to give back into over the weekend because I was going nuts!

Aloha Hashi,

I've got chronic insomnia and unfortunately Hashi's as well...Hummm and...meds don't work as they should. After months of fighting insomnia I finally found a drug that works, Mirtazapine. I know it has a weight gain profile but it will probably work for you if Benadryl works. Many people use just 7.5mg for sleep. I have to use 30mg, but it works, and for me it makes the depression a little more tolerable now that I am sleeping every night. Best wishes.

cloudyn808,

Can't take Benadryl. Makes me hyper and sleepless. Mirtazapine, 1/4th of a tablet, made me quite sick(nausea, dizziness, headache, restless and agitated)and my sleep barely counted as sleep. I started using Cogentin(benztropine) since I have a full bottle after another failure with Abilify. Cogentin antagonizes histamine(H1) and with .75mg of Klonopin, my sleep was restful, though my head feels like it's full of cement, my mouth is constantly dry and I'm in a drug fog. But after a cup of coffee, which I never drink, my head cleared a little and I was able to go shopping. Even bought an 8 pack of Pepsi with real sugar to keep some caffeine in me!

The things we do to keep our brains anchored.

I'm bringing up some of these meds to my doctor next week. If they cause weight gain then I'm going to ask if I can take that Metformin that people have mentioned.
