Do other people get hunger in the middle of the night? With my Seroquel XR 450 mg, I usually fall asleep with no major problems, but I inevitably wake up in the middle of the night (sometimes twice per night like at 12 midnight and 3 am) with major hunger. So much so that I can't get back to sleep unless I eat something. Water alone just doesn't cut the mustard.

In the past, I've often eaten a low calorie/fat free yogurt either right before going to bed, or during my mid-night/early morning wake-ups. Now that just isn't enough anymore.

I'm now starting a serious diet. I am trying to eat a satisfying dinner with some little snacks afterwards, but I need to factor in these middle of the night snacky poohs. Anyone have any suggestions for low calorie/low fat snacks for 3 am?

I usually do fall back to sleep soon after I snack, but I can't get back to sleep if I'm lying there hungry. My dinners are usually at 7 pm with a tiny snack before bed. That's a good 5/6-11 hours before my next officially scheduled meal (breakfast).

I kept Kind bars on the night stand when I was on Seroquel so I wouldn’t have to wake up too much to eat. These are nut bars; I’m not sure what sort of snack you like/fits with plan?

I'll have to explore the "bars" idea. I love Kind bars. They are so delicious with good ingredients, but a little steep in sugar and carbs sometimes. I'll keep them in mind if I fall short in those categories during the day.

Thanks!

Seroquel makes me sleep better and stabilizes my mood. But the the hunger caused by it is annoying. I try to keep healthy snacks by my bed so I can have a quick bite and go back to sleep

Vraylar has me snacking throughout the night.

I usually eat an apple.

I haven't tried this for a snack, but celery and peanut butter must be good.

Or maybe a tropical drink, if water doesn't cut the mustard.

You might find it's just temporary. My hunger was intense the first two weeks of my diet but it calmed down the third week and is tolerable now. Hugs, Jane.

Maybe I'll try to keep the peanut butter snack for late. The thing is is that it has to be easy and quick to grab. When I wander downstairs in the middle of the night I'm extremely clumsy in a half zombie state. If I try to do too much I end up breaking stuff. Generally I don't have the ambition to "make" anything that elaborate. Ideally, it has to be something next to my bedside. Or I can manage to grab a yogurt and spoon. I was keeping the yogurts and some spoons upstairs in our dorm fridge that is in the guest bedroom. That worked so I didn't tumble down the stairs.

I too, do this especially when I am limiting the amounts of food before bed. I was waking up several times, and I actually crave carbs which make me feel full enough to fall back asleep and if I eat something other than carbs I cannot fall back asleep. Carbs are the worst......UGH. So hard when you need to watch the carbs.

I have concluded that I have "night eating syndrome" and I am not sure if it is from my anti depressants or not but I have a sneaking suspicion I am just habitually a carb oholic if there is such a thing...LOL.

I wish you tons of luck to remedy this situation.

Seroquel made me do that. I would wake up at 3am and off to the races. Carbs and especially sweets.

I can demolish a peanut butter jar and 1/2 a jelly bottle in any given time. Two hours after going to sleep. That's what klonopin is lasting now (.75 mg and I won't go higher).

Either that or 1/2 of a 1/2 gallon of ice cream and other 1/2 the peanut butter jar mixed together . Home made Reese's. Hehe.

After that, I fall sleep again for like three or four hours. By that time is about 5AM and I have breakfast. A mug of Cascadian Farm cereal filled to the brim and topped off with Wildflowers honey. Some milk too. Capacity permitting.

I stay awake playing poker and candy crush (at the same time) until lunchtime. Which is about 1/2 a pound of Tavern ham and three or four slices of baby swiss. On whole wheat of course. Only healthy food. Full glass of milk now.

Dinner can be either steak or pork. Never less than eight ounces. Mash potatoes with good gravy and either corn on the cob or beans.
Next day, repeat. This diet is created by Paxil Inc. Not that I was a light eater before.

I'm 5 foot 10 and weight 185 lbs. Good metabolism I guess. Or a nerve wreck.

So, I don't have any good advise for you. Just standing in solidarity. You are not alone.

You are so lucky you can enjoy that much food and remain at a somewhat reasonable weight. At 5'10" you probably hold the 185 lbs somewhat well. I'm 5'6.5" and about 175. I don't look extremely heavy, but I do look plenty chunky enough. I'm aiming for 156/154, which at 46 yo is pretty slim and a normal BMI for me.

The peanut butter is a treat I chose because I don't tend to overindulge in it. What made me gain the weight was pretty much what would have made me gain the weight even if I didn't take Seroquel XR. Love for pastries. Oh, do I LOVE pastries! If I could eat anything I wanted I would eat a croissant with jam every other breakfast, and some kind of cake-type baked good the other breakfasts. Lunches would be pizza or sandwiches (or even a dinner type meal), followed by preferably a donut, cup cake, brownie, or some other pastry. Dinner would involve some kind of cheese and meat, with maybe ice cream for dessert.

The problem with too much Seroquel XR (when I'm not determined enough to diet), is that my portions do get a bit larger and I eat all of those glorious fat and carb-laden things I mentioned above. Then sometimes since I'm home alone all day I semi-binge eat on baked goods. On my diet I must eliminate the baked goods, and/or choose them very wisely.

I don’t have problems with Seroquel doing that. At least, not the normal version. My pdoc tried me first on the XR version, and all I wanted to do on that stuff was eat and sleep. The instant release Seroquel has been a godsend for me. Usually, if I am not in a depression, I have energy to do things like go walking or shopping, can concentrate to read, do housework, etc., and I am not overly hungry. The XR version was a completely different story for me. I gained 20 lb. on it. On the instant release, I am struggling to keep weight on, though I understand this is not typical and many people gain weight on Seroquel. I am also an avid outdoor jogger/walker, so maybe that helps me too. I’m 5’4” and 101 lb., but I also have a history of an eating disorder, which sometimes skews things.
