So glad you have a new Pdoc that actually listens and wants your input.

I sincerely hope that this combo gives you relief.

You don’t deserve this misery.

Hugs my friend

Hi Christina!

I am trying to find the fine line between relief and sleeping at night, as opposed to being sedated 24/7. Should have it figured out in a couple of days via trial and error. I did sleep some last night! I hope to sleep more tonight.

Thanks for taking time to comment. I deeply appreciate our friendship.

I hope you get a good night's sleep tonight, WC, and start to feel better soon. Just sleeping can make such a big difference in all the other symptoms too.

Sleep is still erratic; yet, I am getting a bit more of it.
Lots going on right now; very stressful.
I hope sleep keeps improving. too!

Thank you, tecomsin!
I am thinking of you, as well!

Forced to just rest today.
Too light-headed, dizzy from the gabapentin. Will try to alter the dose in order to better tolerate the med.
Frustrating.

Love to All.

Thanks, Christina.

I was so dizzy I could barely walk without staggering. I had to give up and lay down, even though I could not sleep.

It's 2AM now. I'd slept awhile. If I take more gabapentin, I might sleep more; however, it will make me loopy for tomorrow. What to do?

Unless you HAVE to be alert and bushy tailed tomorrow I’d take another.

You need solid sleep , least you got some , you just need more

I can be very edgy lately.
Gabapentin helps me with that.

Yes, I need a couple of days of sleep. I also need others in the house to understand this. I do tell them. Yet, if I sleep in an extra hour, someone is in my face, saying they are "just checking on me." It wakes me up! It makes me angry! I have repeatedly asked them to let me sleep!

I hope you get some sleep!

Does anyone else experience extreme noise sensitivity when going through a period of agitation?

Does this sound like agitation which can go along with Bipolar illness?

My daughter has sensory processing disorder (makes parentlng a challenge, every sense of hers is affected). Anything & everything with the potential to overstimulate her senses, and she is out of sorts.

I remember absolutely hating the noise of the school cafeteria when I was in middle & high school. In high school, where we had a little more choice in where we ate our lunch, I'd often choose to eat outside, even when it was extremely hot or cold (well, at least to someone used to living near Houston).

Man, does this all sound so familiar? All of these examples we've seen in our son. Sensitivities to heat, cold, sounds, someone singing in the car, cafeteria noises, He isn't dx'd with Bipolar (though I could swear...) but with PDD-NOS.

Put him on Seroquel after switching him from Abilify, but from what we're seeing, its only made the irritation much worse, he says so himself. (I'd a rather long post on the medications forum on all of this, seems to have disappeared, somehow)

Anyroad - does it sound like agitation that goes along with BP illness? If this thread warn't specifically in the BP section, I'd of said it irritation symptomatic of the AS.

I think this type of irritation may occur in a few different "conditions."
My pdocs do mention it reminds them of AS; yet, they have never changed my diagnosis. This goes on for me fairly frequently.
Neurontin/gabapentin seems to be helping, so far. It's a bit sedating, however.
I hope you find some answers for your child.

Hey WC,
I need 50 mg of Lyrica to sleep through the night. Otherwise my sleep is very broken up and short. Lyrica is closely related to gabapentin. It also helps with anxiety but I only take it at night because i want it to help me sleep and it would be very sedating during the day. However recently my sleep has gotten a bit worse but I think it might just be the heat. We have some below average temperature whether for the next week or so, and I'm hoping I'll sleep more soundly.

What is AS?

Ja, there is so much overlap that I sometimes wonder if we are no farther along in our explanatory models for mental illness than the medieval alchemists were with having a correct model in understanding basic chemical changes.

Hey, thanks for the gabapentin tip! DS did take oxcarbazepine for a while, which didn't do anything but impair his cognitive functions ( "makes me stupid and drool" ), I know these compounds are so idiosyncratic with respects to individual responses to them that even a slight change in part of the molecule could make all the difference.

Definitely mention it to the doc! Always hopeful.

Hope you find some stability and peace for yourself, as well. I know how hatefully debilitating it is.

Cheers!

I personally think Neurontin/gabapentin is a safer choice than Seroquel or Tegretol. Maybe look into it? It also comes in a liquid form, which allows for a low-dose option.
Thanks for your well wishes.

What is AS?
Yes, gabapentin and pregabalin are related. I have tried then both before.
AS is Asperger's Syndrome.
I hope you can enjoy some fresh air today.
Thanks for your support!

Hi Christina,
Thanks to your coaching, I did get some sleep!
Trouble is, I am still sedated today. I am going to take it earlier tonight to see if it will wear off earlier, perhaps? I cannot take this day-long sedation.

I hope you are having a good day?

Oh yay yay yay !!! Glad you got some sleep. I hear you on the sedation , icky side effect but you have been in such a struggle to get any kind of rest that it probably is worth it right now.

Keep on sleeping

I've been taking both temazepam and gabapentin, along with other meds at night. You are right, Christina, the sedation which follows all day long is better than not sleeping and feeling so bad!

I just have so much going on right now, I cannot be so drowsy 24/7.

Will try to find a happy medium.

I’m happy that your finally sleeping , it’s hell when insomnia comes for a visit and won’t leave.

I have gone 6 days with no sleep it was horrible I don’t recommend it lol

Find that happy balance !

so that is an example of a slight change making all of the difference

WC,

if the sedation is too much maybe you can ask your pdoc to just take gabapentin in the evening or take a lower dose in the morning and a bigger one at night...

Hi tecomsin,

We are using 1200mg at night. None during the day. The sedation hangs on for the day. With 900mg at night, the sedation hangs on all day long, too. In order to have a dose that works at night, it includes sedation all day long, without taking any more all day.

Lyrica is less sedating for me and does not help me to sleep at all.

Thanks so much for your suggestions. I know you care!

The sleep and the sedation help me with the other symptoms: agitation, sound sensitivity, etc. It's just that the sedation is overwhelming during the day. Maybe I am hoping for too much in hoping for nighttime sleep and daytime clarity?

My pdoc wants to do a sleep study. The sleep doc says, One needs to sleep in order to get data from a sleep study. Lol. True.
