Yes, I just had something similar. I am on daily prednisone which lowers my immunity.

I have metabolic syndrome which is caused by psych meds ... it makes losing weight almost impossible , I hate it.

Is it the being overweight caused by psych meds that contributes to the metabolic syndrome?

I was taking 5MG of Zyprexa and I gained 20 pounds in two weeks on Zyprexa. I also have Metabolic Syndrome because of it. Best of all the NP didn’t take me off the stupid med, I had to beg a different doctor to take me off the stupid medication. It’s not being overweight that caused it, it’s the damage from the meds that cause elevated Triglycerides, horrible HDL, weight, high blood pressure, and it leads to heart diesease, diabetes, and a whole bunch of other things.

I’ve been stable for 3 weeks so yay me 😊
Well, actually I did have x2 one day blips which I managed super quick with PRN’s so they don’t count.
I’ve also got metabolic syndrome. But because I have a low life expectancy my care factor is low.

Yes , so many psych meds cause a increase in hunger usually for sweets and carbs. Usually it involves increase in blood sugar and cholesterol. I have a fatty liver due to overeating on psych meds which is triggering my ED , vicious circle.

So Big Pharma makes meds with sideeffects that can be diabetes , ruin your thyroid , kidney and also liver

It’s disgusting what Big Pharma does.

I think I will get off zyprexa. I see my pdoc on wednesday next week so will talk to her about that.

I was not sleeping very well with jsut the .5mg of klonipin and more so we added melatonin and it seemed to help but added zyprexa to see if I could sleep better. I don't want to get metabolic syndrome.

I’ve had good luck with Seroquel and they do make a 25MG that is usually used for low dose sleep. I haven’t noticed any weight gain with the Seroquel.

I actually loved zyprexa and lost weight on it. I had to come off of it because I am diabetic and my fasting blood sugar was too high. If I could be I would still be on it. But everyone is different.

I tried up to 300mg of seroquel and it did not help put me to sleep.

Criteria for Metabolic Syndrome:
Metabolic syndrome - Diagnosis and treatment - Mayo Clinic

My former PC had diagnosed me with Metabolic Syndrome. I have looked into it and I think he was wrong. I do not fit the criteria. Never have. My new PC agrees with me and is removing the diagnosis from my chart as long as all looks good on my blood work next week.

if you are unsure, or wish to know the criteria, the link above covers the criteria.

That’s me basically

Treatment can be meds to treat each symptom but then a person winds up on more meds which increases the “poly pharmacy” problems

Just suckS !

UGH!!!

I know! My new PC said if I have trouble losing then he will prescribe something. Oh no! If anything, I want to decrease meds, not add on new ones! Just make sure my thyroid is functioning correctly! (Am hypothyroid.)

Seasonal allergies really got to me during my daughter's choir performance (held outdoors). It's gotten warm here again, in the low 70s. I had very dry eyes, and my right contact lens got into the white of my eye, got it out & back in (had some lens solution), but my eye is pretty sore now, so I've switched over to glasses.

Lately, I just want to curl in a ball and disappear. So tired of PTSD. So tired of the ED. So tired of panic attacks. So tired from distance running, but lately I am having to run more & more just to get rid of the pictures in my head, the should have done this, should have done that second guessing. And it all makes the ED happier because I can look in the mirror & see various bones, even more so, of course, if I bend over, I shouldn't look at the stupid mirror at all; it's worse than the scale for me lately.

Though maybe, maybe there may be good news from the university that keeps dangling the job in front of H and taking it away. It looks like they are processing paperwork for some position for him (though they have yet to tell H what the position is, when it starts, what the pay is). They've asked for references, a secretary has called needing to confirm info, get his social security number, he was emailed a syllabus for a couple statistics courses in industrial engineering. Fingers crossed. We can use some good news.

Did the new pdoc give you something to help with the hypomania/mania? Bursting with 3 hours of sleep usually is a sign for me that I'm headed toward crash & burn. Did you tell the new pdoc you are having manicky symptoms?

I don't know why some days the reflection is worse than the scale. There was one year we went camping in the San Bernadino Mountains in California; my daughter was still preschool age. H took a lot of pictures, and at the time, I remember I thought I was so fat. H has a screensaver on his computer that flips through a file folder with what he deems are good photos, and I will see pictures of me on that trip. I weighed more, but I looked really good, nice muscle tone all over, I think both from weight training and carrying my daughter around a lot. I noticed my arms seemed to get weaker once I was not carrying her around so much. Well, now she's to the too tall, too heavy range from me to pick her up from the ground except a couple of seconds, let alone carry.

Now, I am very skinny but have a distance runner's physique. I honestly could probably run a half marathon 3 or 4 days a weeks now, the amount of running I do...sigh.

I hope the job comes through for H. It seems promising. They also asked he have his old university (the one where he earned the Ph.D., not the B.S.) send sealed direct copies straight from the university to this other university. My old jobs, it was good enough if I had the sealed, closed official copy with me, much less mailed to them. So we will see. We think the job will either be 1 year visiting professor (which won't pay much more considering gas, but will put him on the right track, then if they like him, associate or assistant professor on the tenure track (would involve a move but much better pay). We will see. He has got to get in while this provost who likes him is still in place and hasn't worked upward to another position. Wait & see has been the motto of H's career path. It is not easy.

I didn't have to tell her. She picked up on it the moment I walked in the door. So far she's asked me to get my Li levels checked and she lowered my Zyprexa down to 2.5mg. She is considering adding Haldol as maintenance to keep me from cycling into mania.
