Nope, I don’t like fruit much. I rarely eat it. Mangos are ok.

What is your favorite zoo animal.

I'm not really that fond of zoos. I'd rather wish to think of the animals in a natural habitat. But putting that aside, I suppose I like seeing the wild cats most, though I like all animals.

Who is your favorite comedian or comedienne?

Ho ho ho none of the above but that said my cat doesn’t mind me singing cappella old old English folk songs of maiden s and jack naves. But should I try a rock song he runs. He’ll tolerate Janis Joplin tho!

What kitchen appliances do you use everyday?

He wasn't entirely a stranger but nearly one. When I was in college my senior year I had a severe depression and was seeing a therapist there 4x/week. The therapist's office was on the other side of campus from my dorm and one day I was crying on my way back to the dorm. My first semester of freshman year lab partner saw me, gave me a hug and walked me to my dorm. It was a very sweet thing to do.

Do you have food allergies or sensitivies?

When I'm in a deep paranoia attack, zyprexa. If I'm struggling with a mixed episode, comforting music, candles and grounding techniques.

What led to you getting diagnosed with bp?

I had started going to a psychiatrist because of symptoms, at the suggestion of my general practitioner. The general practioner simply stated that my situation was more than he would handle. That psychiatrist had me attend group therapy that he, himself, led. One day he noticed a clear switch to what was at least hypomania. At the end of the group session, he tapped my shoulder and said to stay after for a talk. It was then that he diagnosed me with bipolar disorder and wanted to change my medication. Being hypomanic, I basically told him to buzz off and didn't return for almost two years, when in crisis. He hospitalized me then. My diagnosis was then firmly established as bipolar type 1.

How old were you when first diagnosed with bipolar disorder? What was your initial reaction?

I think I was 17. I was angry. I thought it was a load of bull that just because I was angry with my older, slower therapist for being slow and because my dad said I was a hyper person I got labelled "bipolar." I mean even to me today that sounds more like ADHD than bipolar. I was 20 I think when they changed it to schizoaffective and I was more accepting by then after being in treatment a while and realizing things weren't right.

If you could be doing anything in the universe right now, what would you be doing?

My nighttime eating isn't so much when waking up in the middle of the night, but rather later at night before I finally fall asleep. What I eat soon before bed varies. When I'm reasonable, I eat a low fat or fat free yogurt. When I want to splurge more, it's a dessert-like thing. Though rare, I have been munching on salty stuff lately (popcorn, peanuts, chips, crackers). Not sure why I've had the salt cravings.

How much water (or non caffeinated beverages) do you generally consume each day?

I don’t drink much, my water consumption has fallen to one .5 liter bottle a day. Back in the day when on a different cocktail I drank huge bottles of water all day long. Now not so much. Back then I drank gallons of soda too. Now sometimes one 20oz a day or less. I really should drink more.

How many pillows do you sleep with?

I have to answer this question because it's relevant to my life right now
I had always slept with 2 pillows - 1 regular, 1 memory foam. Then I purchased a new pillow and it's so puffy that I, somewhat regretfully, had to give up my memory foam pillow. I now use it to support my back when I'm reading in bed, then it's retired to it's new spot in a big basket in my bedroom. Funny thing, the single pillow is working out well.

Do you enjoy taking walks, or is it something you have to compel yourself to do?

And I feel compelled to answer this one! Since my back fusion it is painful to do any amount of walking. Just from the house to across the street to get mail pains my back. But I have set out on a path of improvement. I’m starting with aqua Zumba and aqua fitness for the support water gives me. Then I’m going to do walking at the Y with walking sticks and gradually increase my distance. Then once I can do a mile without the sticks start walking the paths around me to the parks and nature center. My long term gold is to go to DC and walk all the Smithsonian museums. But right now, ugh walking is hard I absolutely must compel myself to do the least bit.

How often do you buy clothes?

Either would be wonderful! I suppose the core me would likely lean towards the famous poet, but if I was money hungry, I think being a famous painter would be more lucrative.

What is something either one of your parents, siblings, or friends can do well that you wish you could do well?

my mom and sister both have PhDs. I really wanted to earn a PhD and planned to do it but bipolar took away my ability to study and keep up with a class, especially while working. Both are excellent teachers and I think I could have been one too before BP.

What is your favorite breakfast?

I most like sweet breakfasts. I prefer savory ones rather for lunch or dinner...or at least brunch. My favorites are blueberry waffles, crepes, Dutch Baby, or French toast with either pork roll or breakfast sausage and additional fruit. Lots of coffee and some red grapefruit juice.

What do you dislike most about your least favorite season?
