I'm doing nothing but sitting in bed and watching TV and listening to Spotify and going out of my house maybe 3 times a week. But people don't think its a good idea for me to be working with all this health crap I'm dealing with. I do admit I was pretty tired and worn out and a bit sick today.
But I just really am bored.

You can certainly try to work part time. People
with health issues can still hold jobs. Who tells you not to work? |

People are telling me not to because I will loose my benefits but it's not all rainbows and sunshine on benefits. I'm in severe debt because we tried to keep our car, dental and loosing my service dog. If I want another SD that's 10k, teeth that don't hurt $50k and a car 10k plus $500+ a month. So working is a must for us. Plus we want to own a home one day. Not a fancy one, an ADA tiny 1-2 bedroom 1.5 bathroom but that's another $50k plus land.

You could work part time. Why not give it a go? You’re young

Getting off benefits is good too if one can make enough to live on. Otherwise it might not be wise. I don’t think mountains is talking about getting off benefits. He used to have a part time job but stopped due to health problems |

Look into the ticket to work program if you’re on benefits and go through voc rehab or an employment agency to get the ticket. This ensures your benefits won’t be impacted until you really don’t need them anymore.

Failing that how about some kind of volunteering to get out of the house? |

I
Volunteered for a whole Year before going back to work part time. It gave me purpose and a good feeling. First at a humane society with the cats then where I work now. Give it a whirl!

You never know unless you try. I was off work for 2 years - MH - but got back into it and I'm so glad for my MH (and financial standing) that I did it.

I looked at the typical retail stores and none are hiring. Maybe I should look into volunteering. The forest preserve kinda sounds like fun and I can always just get sick in a bush if I don't feel good.

Yes! I think volunteering gave me a sense of purpose I needed without the demands of work

Personally, I didn’t like volunteering... I want to get paid for my time. Lol.

I also got confidence and fellowship from volunteering in fact I’ve kept doing it since I went into paid work. My advice is to try different things until you get one that fits.

i get that about being paid but i just meant since MD is maybe not ready to commit to a work schedule with his health issues maybe a volunteer position would help with boredom and nothing todo

A lot of places look for volunteers for single day events, you just volunteer that day and if you like it you can go to another one of their events and sometimes they have more regular schedules if you just want to try something out and see if you like it.

I agree with the one time volunteer things. There’s a lot of those around here. Like sign up for a day of volunteering at an event or a place that serves meals to the community. There’s a place near here I’ve volunteered a couple times serving food to the community. You sign up for a single shift ahead of time and then go in and do it. And can sign up for more shifts whenever you want. It’s a little easier than committing to a volunteer job with a regular schedule. I think it’d be good to start with that for awhile then once you get comfortable with that then think about a more long term regular volunteer job with regular shifts. Then eventually go back to work if you feel up to it someday. But don’t push yourself too hard. Take small steps slowly over time
