We can only turn the ability off/on for members to create their own chat rooms. We've gone ahead and enabled this feature. I will gently remind members that the creation of your own chatroom requires that you agree to uphold the community guidelines while people are in your room. If you don't want to do this or are uncomfortable in doing it, you shouldn't use this feature.

So are the rules that you can't just kick people from your room for whatever reason you want right? Just curious because I know it used to be this way. Maybe the guidelines for creating your own room need to be restated, just in case.

Or maybe they should have to be password protected.

Nope, if you create your own chat room, you cannot kick a member from it just for any reason. There would need to be a legitimate reason relating to the community guidelines.

Again, if you don't want the responsibility of your own chatroom, please do not create one. We will hold chatroom creators to the standard of upholding the community guidelines and not acting capriciously or arbitrarily. Thanks.

I can't get onto chat for some reason? I can go on from my phone because at the bottom corner it says "Mobile Chat" but on my laptop I get the chat bar at the bottom. When I try to click it nothing happens - almost like it's unclickable. What am I doing wrong? Helpppp.

Got it working now. Chat doesn't work on incognito mode for me (using Safari). Weird. Can that be fixed?

Also when I finally got on there I use chat in a pop-out window (much better to navigate and bigger chat screen) I can't mute the chat "pings" whenever there is a new message. In the old chat there was an option to mute it but this new one doesn't. Can you add a muting feature? I can't necessarily mute the tab because there is not a muting option :/

You can actually mute the chat "pings". Click the cog icon to get into the options and uncheck "chat sounds". If you're in popout mode, click the arrow at the top left first, then the cog.

If you still hear sounds you may have to disable it for both the "bottom bar" chat on the main page, and the popout one.

I never seem to "leave" the chatroom.

When I've been off my Mac all day and open my PC browser it automatically starts the pinging noise at the bottom of my screen with the red notification and when I click the drop down "Who's in NEW chat" I'm just in there (and have to assume I'm not there when I'm not logged onto PC).

Majors and minors, this is not a big issue to me and I'm enjoying the new chat a lot - but just thought I'd put it out there.

Ah well, first world problems I guess

If you're in a chat room and you want to leave, hover your mouse cursor over the name of the room and click the X that appears. Make sure you do that for the bottom bar chat as well if you've used the popout window.
I've had it several times where I just closed the popout window, thinking it would make me leave chat. It takes some getting used to.

Just to clarify, if the community guidelines say you should avoid certain topics due to their sensitive nature (e.g., religion or politics), that's a clear indication that it is NOT an appropriate topic for your own chat room. If you start a chat room only to talk about religion or politics, you will have your room shut down down and may lose your chat privileges.

Chat rooms are not like our social groups, where we provide more topical freedom for such discussions. Therefore, we don't allow hosting of such chatrooms.

sometimes you need to reset the forum even as far as closing out the page and entering from google to clear up the problem of the missing bar. not sure what is causing this tho.

I think the popout full chat window should be placed as an option for people wanting to enter chat under the CHAT link at the top of the forums.

is there anyway to increase the character cap for messages in chat . you don't even get 2 lines and it cuts you off. breaking up the flow of chat quite a bit. our last chat had a much longer cap.

emgreen that is correct and am really trying to enforce that more, it seems to be taking an uptick with the new chat for whatever reason ppl have forgotten guidelines

The word menu makes me hungry lol.

Anyway there's this issue where I can't see usernames when someone types something and only see the avatar instead. It gets confusing when people have the same picture.

That being said, I guess it can't be perfect and there are going to be things we all have to live with.

was wondering possibly if our server needs a reboot or tweaking a bit for the new chat system. Sense it has been introduced we have to refresh our page often and it also drops posts or it won't allow us to post without going all the way out of the forum and reentering that way. I makes the flow very jerky and confusing when the posts start to drop or you have to go out and in so often. I will encourage ppl to post and let you know what they are experiencing.

its really annoying when i type a message and an error message comes up at the top of chat in red and it happens very frequently and my post is lost, i also need to refresh a lot, it is very off putting.
