anybody ever been in a major depressive episode while on zoloft? i've been taking it for the past several years and have been very stable. eight months ago, i relocated, changed jobs, shortly quit my job due to job stress and now i'm in another md episode. could it be time for a meds change?

I haven't ever been on Zoloft, but I've been on Effexor for years, and a couple of years ago had two psych hospitalizations while on it. So yes, time for a meds tweaking, at least. My pdoc increased the Effexor and added another antidepressant as an adjunct.

It sucks that you can still have episodes while medicated, doesn't it? It sounds like you've had a lot of stress in your life lately, though. That might be contributing.

thanks for replying; yes alot of stress in a short period of time is contributing but even a meds increase has not lifted me. It just sucks to feel good for so many years after a major depressive episode, believing you have it under control then BOOM! back at square one...depressing in itself!

Sadly, I have been there done that, and I know just what you mean. I hope things start looking up for you soon. Feel free to PM if you need to talk.

I have been on many antidepressants and combos of meds. They seem to stop helping after a time, and we increase them as needed until we reach the max, then change to a different one. It is very frustrating. A med change may be the thing here, there are newer meds with more action than zoloft, and other meds could be added. Sometimes it's a bumpy road.
Take care, I wish you well.

thanks to everyone for caring so much. after three days of sleeping almost nonstop, i woke up this morning a little more positive. perhaps it's because my appointment is monday. anyway, my muscles are so weak from not eating and laying in the bed for so long, so i got up and my one goal is to do dishes today. yay me, i did them took ALOT of effort, but...I DID THEM! If it wasn't for years of cognitive behavioral therapy, I don't think I could've dealt with this relapse. I know it's chemical (hereditary) and stress induced so I see my disease as treatable. I am so glad I stumbled on this site though, I need support. I'm very asocial (don't have alot of friends and I'm comfortable with that, too many people overstimulate me but I'm great one on one). I so do hope this makes sense to people, my thought processing is still quite skewed. Take care everyone and thanks again.

makes sense to me! Glad you were able to get up and achieve something. Sounds like you have a positive attitude which will go far.
I am also quite asocial (isolative), but I work on some of it in here. Lots of great ppl!
