How do you turn your negative self-talk around?

I am struggling with mine, I used to be able to do it rather quickly and well, but I think additional pressures on myself are making it harder.

I keep hearing the most horrid statements from my childhood over and over again.

I'm on my meds and toyed with ritalin to help with focus. I haven't taken the ritalin for about a month.

Have you tried to listen to some music that is uplifting? Or try to keep a journal of just positive thoughts. Just some sugestions. I do both and it takes some time, but it works. Hang in there!

I don't know how to do it myself - I know I do it, but I don't correct myself enough at all. Turning Self-talk around.

Anyways - welcome to PC. Turning Self-talk around.

Hopefully someone else will be more coherent than me! Turning Self-talk around.

part of the many group therapy programs and classes I have taken over the years dealt with this issue. My most resent ones was one of my depression management classes, 2 parenting classes and one anger management classes and they had us do the same activiy. A total of 4 times.

for one week write down any negative self talk and then after writing that negative self talk write THREE positive self talk and affirmation statemnts.

The first time I did it I had about 6 pages of negative self talk and matching positive self talk and affirmation statements

the second time I did the activity I had 4 almost 5 pages.

the third time I had 2 pages

the forth time not even a whole page because it is now automatic for me to subsitiute positives when I do negative self talk that most of t he time I catch myself even as the thought is starting to form.

I wish I had answers for you.I am trying to erase that tape playing in my head of all the things I was told in my lifetime that were lies about me. I am trying to make a new recording to listen to in my head.. of good things...

I guess that sounds like I am crazy and maybe I am but its all I can do to help myself.Time.. it takes time to undo all the bad things we were made to believe about ourselves.

Hang in there hun.. Faith

Self depreciation is the easiest thing to do...keeping yourself busy and happy the hardest...to stop that inner recording I write to others. Like here...
