This is a thread to get ideas and to share ideas of looking after oneself. I want to try and do what keytones did. It's ok to move it if it's in the wrong forum.

I'll share mine -
  • have a nap
  • listen to music
  • go for a walk
  • gardening

I second journaling.

I don't know if you read the Harry Potter series, but in it, there was a magical device called a pensieve. A wizard could extract their thoughts and memories with their wand and place them into the pensieve to help them gain mental clarity, keep certain memories they might find vital stored away securely so they don't lose them, or a way to transfer bad memories and thoughts out of their head so that they could better their own psyche.

I find that keeping a journal is the muggle/no-mag (non magical persons) equivilant of this, and it's done wonders for me. Some find it only serves to keep them in a deep state of rumination, so be wary of that.

- Do autogenic training.
- Listening to relaxing sounds from You tube
- Music
- Reading
- Go for a walk
- Relax in nature (sit beside a lake, walk in the nature, admire the view)
- (Do work in the house, sometimes; that helps to put my focus away from myself)

Can we include here what are the things we can try out to make us feel better? when endless depression and panic attacks overwhelm us? how to fight these demons and try to live a normal life and move towards recovery?

What do you plan to do to move towards recovery? I m trying to follow a daily plan which I have made in which I try to give the most importance to daily exercise. I m not always successful in carrying out this plan, in fact I fail most of the time. Still I try. For me getting up in the morn, cleaning the house and getting out of the house are the things most difficult to do.
If anyone can help please with any suggestion of how to improve the quality of life when we are going through this phase of of a never ending anxiety and depression.

Take a hot shower, listen to music, use my mindfulness skills I learned in DBT, lay down for a bit, play online (well read stuff online I should say).

I love gardening but it can have negative as well as positive aspects. When I am very low my motivation and energy drops and seeing plants dying or weeds taking over because of my neglect makes me worse. I feel despairing then. As well as being outside the positive from gardening for me is it ties me to life in that I can say to myself 'I don't want to kill myself till I've seen that plant in flower', it gives me things to look forwards too - but it also takes more from me than it gives sometimes.

This thread is.such a nice idea.

Coming here and finding people who are from the same world turned out to be the most positive step I've taken toward recovery in a long time. I can totally be myself--talk about the ups and downs and reveal
the fears no outsider would ever understand. Thank you for this. Thank you for giving me a place where I know I will not be judged.

Other things I am trying to accomplish...
Made a budget so I can move in a year.
I cruise the organizational sites for tips about getting my house and
my studio together.
(Have some good resources, DESIREE, if you are interested.)
Trying to figure out what diet plan I can afford.

Things that bring immediate comfort...
My cat. Snuggling, talking to, just being with.
NOT SMOKING!!!
Movies, books, making art.
Getting enough sleep.
Almost anything chocolate.

Flower.

I find a daily plan very helpful as well! It makes a structure on the day and help me to focus on something else then myself when I need that!
