My last T two years ago told me I wasn't alone. October holds a strange place in my life. Unknown to me... In a way... But it's a serious trigger for me. My last t said it's somewhat common for those with DID to be triggered by October. I will not get into details but if you are one of those, like me... Chances are you know a little about why it's such a hard month. She said it's the highest month for abuse, ptsd and did patients into psych wards.
For those of you like me... Who find it a little harder to pass this month then the rest... My hugs and thoughts are with you! We will get through this month like the rest! And grow from it and flourish into beautiful beings ![]() It's a hard time but I will make it through... You will too ![]() Sorry for posting all the time but I wanted to let it be known, if you're having a more difficult time in October, as I am, you're not alone! We're all here to help you! Think about it, you got us (purpleflyingmonkeys) and there is no telling how many we are, then you have the other names that have countless hearts behind them! All the best wishes and hopes for the hard month ahead!!! ![]()

October is our hardest month of the year too...we are really struggling. Every year at this time we go downhill. Usually by the middle of November though we get ourselves back together.

This is our hardest time of the year too. For the first time we are so busy every day of the week. Come November if we manage to make it through we most likely will collapse from exhaustion. Not sleeping well and being very busy is a new tactic for us to try this year. We meant to say keeping very busy is a new tactic. The not sleeping is part of this month thing. The other thing we are doing is some elaborate drawing/doodling so the wee hours of the night are spent doing that rather than other stuff. So far so good. Best wishes to everyone affected by this month and certain days.

October is our hardest month as well. No triggering anniversary's or anything like that but it never fails. leaves start to fall and so does my depression. I use a light box every morning and that seems to help. good luck everyone and be safe

And bmee, you and I are on the same page. I go go go. I don't have a car but for someone without a car, I'm extremely active and moving. October is a month of distractions for me. I try to distract myself, try to distract those within but when I can't communicate with them to know what they do and do not like, it makes it a little harder and some of the things that I am doing to get through the time is making others in not so comfortable I can tell. But we're trying! Distractions are a wonderful tool in situations like these!

It's not crazy. If you're one of the ones who suffer from October for a... I guess you could say spiritual... reason, it's not crazy at all. You would be more nuts if you loved this month after the history...
Either way you're not crazy, we have our hard times and we have our strong times. Sometimes we just need a shoulder or a ear, that doesn't make us crazy, it makes us human! Maybe call your t and NOT hang up this time, even if you only say 2 words... The best of luck to you, I hope you are feeling better soon!

I always thought october was difficult because the sudden shortening of daylight hours. No only do the days seem to get shorter rapidly, but daylight savings ends. It really signals summer is over, and I dread winter...

WE MADE IT THROUGH OCTOBER!!!! I know I'm a little late for that but WOO-HOO!!! I'm glad that month is done. It's pretty interesting... I think something just clicked in that noggin of mine. I've been having severe anxiety since August and in October it sky rocketed. I thought I was going mad! I debated checking myself in a couple of times. The last 4 days have been so much better. And I remember the day before that being much better. Not perfect and the anxiety still hits sometimes but man has it gotten better since just 7 days ago!!!
Halloween my daughter wanted to be a skeleton... That didn't sit well with me... I'm so jumpy and a freak around that time and so paranoid about anything spooky like that... I'm 24 I shoulda out grown it but I know some of you will understand... I guided her attention to Ariel, thankfully she's 3 so she's old enough to distract... So we made it! If you're with me on this terrible month, give yourself a huge hug and congratulate yourself, we made it through ![]()

October used to very hard for us too. As part of our recovery our Old T's had us start new traditions so that we could make good memiors on days that used to be ugly for us. ![]() we still have sad moments but we remind our selfs that we are claming the present and the uglies cant have em no more, sending safe thought to all ![]()

------------------- Live in southern hemisphere, and October is hard for us too. Haven't been on for ages cos been hospitalised twice this Oct. My dear aunt also suicided this October, after almost not making it last October. She has left behind an 18yo daughter and 15yo son. Just starting to get it back together i think - refused readmission on Sat just gone. Thank you for letting us know we are not alone. kp The Army Of The Phoenix

I notice a general lightening of the mood on the psychotherapy forum. People were felling pretty bad in October but they are more cheerful now (December). I'm feeling it myself.
SPECULATION: Spring brings expectations and Autumn feels like abandonment. Summer and Winter offer consistency and a respite from change.

There are many factors to moods and weather change. Some people get depressed during the winter months while others get depressed during the summer months. The fall with the trees dying and such can be a depressant for some, but for others the colors brighten their moods... October in specific is a rather difficult month every year for myself, and a few others... For other reasons but I guess it could be in the same category as others. As in... Christmas makes many people happy but say a boy grew up with parents who were treating him badly and on Christmas he was forced to eat only rice and sleep in the attic (so so so sorry if that triggered anyone, not my intent) when he gets older he's not going to be in the best mood around Christmas time much like some wont be in the best mood in October for somewhat similar reasons... But there are many other reasons for not doing well...
In general however, since many (not all) patients dx'd with DID have a history of abuse relating to a time in October, it makes it that much more difficult for them to make it through the months where everything begins to change

I'm so sorry to all who have been having a difficult time despite the reasons. I have triggering times... October June and July... July being my birthday month of course I'm always on a downward spiral for my birthday... Memories don't just dissappear even if we think they have, the triggers are still there even when we don't notice them. It's terrible that something such as a day can cause us to go off the deep end sometimes!

I wish I knew why October was so triggering. Mine starts in October. Every year I spend my birthday (mid october), miserable for unknown reasons. Mine lasts till like March or April though. I just contributed it to seasonal depression... although light boxes do nothing to help me. I'm really terrible at identifying triggers for things so I'm really curious what would trigger my DID so badly in October.
