What a lovely way of putting it! Yes, perseverance is my best quality. I think it's what kept me alive when everything went to Hell in my early thirties.

It's what kept me alive, when my brother perished at just 21. I'm 54 now. Have lived over twice as long as he did. I'm sure there are many perseverant men, but i think this is a skill more women have.

Thanks for the clarification. Glad i asked for it, worth it!

Have a beautiful day!

Jane.

Completed my first day diet-cola-free yesterday! Gave my stash to a friend. THERE IS NO DIET COLA IN MY HOME!!! What a milestone. May 23rd, 2021 -- the fateful day.

I drank a lot of water like @FluffyDinosaur. I spray up with Biotene when it's not convenient to drink (bladder the size of a grape).

I bought some vegan foods to try out. Would like to be completely vegan by 60. I'm 54 now and almost completely vegetarian. I call myself a 'flexitarian.'

Gee, i just adjust to dairy milk and i decide to give it up. It'll be a big transition but i have support on an active Facebook group. It's really exciting!

I don't want anyone eating my dog. Why should i eat a pig? They're so similar. And cows are beautiful to and it's not much of a life for them, animal agriculture. It's the way of the future, veganism.

Compassion for all animals, human and all others...

Have a beautiful day!

Jane.

I agree that there are some advantages to being fat. The main one for me is that the cold weather doesn't bother me so much (Ontario). Yeah, there are plenty of unhealthy (skinny-fat) people out there and doctors are quick to judge.

That's why i support the "Health At Every Size" (HAES) MOVEMENT. People come in all shapes ans sizes. "Sizism" is just as bad as racism. "Lookism" too, the preferential treatment of beautiful people and the oppression of the ugly.

Well, this has turned dark!

I see you are pretty committed to over-processed convenience foods. Well, it's fun and you're only 28 -- i guess it's hard to see that a home-prepared diet is the ideal. I withdraw my request that we go on a home-prepared challenge. I see now that you're not interested at all.

I know a man who is 44, still lives with his mom, and I would also say is committed to over processed convenience foods.

I repeat: TO EACH THEIR OWN. It's YOUR choice and YOUR preference and i will continue to support you even tho MY choice and MY preference and MY doctor's advice is different.

You're young and don't hear the clock ticking like i do, so it's easy to see that we have very different POVs. It's natural.

I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make you upset. I’ve lost and kept off 62 pounds by eating the way I do. I know it’s not healthy but right now it’s just difficult to change things. It’s just how my mind and body works.

But yeah it’s different for everyone. I’m agreeing with you.

Sorry again.

My eating and thought process regarding food and weight is messed up regardless. My old therapist thought I had an ED. It’s something I need to discuss with my new one.

Last time I weighed myself, Saturday, I was 150lbs. So I lost about 2 lbs in the past week. I’ve been getting on the treadmill to walk for 30 to 45 minutes most days

At 6:30AM I ate a slice of pizza. I fell back asleep until 8 and I then walked to the gas station for a soda. I came home and then an hour later went to a ton of furniture and retail stores. I did a lot of walking today. I also drank a ton of water. I had an Atkins shake when I got home. I was thinking of going out to eat but this heat is screwing with me so I’ll probably just have some wonton soup or something and a turkey burger for dinner.

I can see where mountaindewd is coming from. Stuff like carrots and celery plain used to make me sick to my stomach. It felt like it was sloshing around in the acid, really unpleasant.

But nowadays i eat half the bunch of celery before i finish washing and cutting it!

Im basically doing less bread, more rice and pasta and beans, less fish and chicken, more olives (for fat).

I am in the middle of a course of antibiotics for a UTI, and boy i cannot believe how much better i feel. I cant believe how sick i was getting without realizing it. I know that old people in nursing homes often go a little crazy from undiagnosed UTI's - the symptoms are not always obvious (it happened to my uncle). I guess i better start watching for that in myself!

Oh - i was gonna say, my stomach feels better too. I wonder if i have h pylori? And thats part of what made me queasy with veg? My mother claims she had heartburn since she was a little girl.

I take a med (topamax) that is hard on the kidneys so i try to be careful to drink enough water.

I don’t currently work. My job didn’t handle Covid appropriately and I felt unsafe being there. I plan on going back in August after some personal things are taken care of. I worked just a regular chain retail job. Nothing fancy. I worked mornings on the weekdays which I like.

I swear I have a uti a lot. I have a history of them and I couldn’t even go the other week. I was straining so hard and I really needed to go. Finally after I took a shower I was able to. Plus I have this strange bleeding that I don’t know where it’s coming from. I have a lot to discuss with my doctor when I see him.

Oh so you don’t have to work to support yourself ? That makes it easier to take care of yourself, that’s for sure. I had to take public transit to my last job and I didn’t feel safe .

Today I took a 20 minute walk. I went to Walgreens and a gas station. I had a Mountain Dew but I accidentally picked a large size so I only filled it halfway. I then ran a bunch of errands and I got a small smoothie. I only had a Mountain Dew and that smoothie until 2:30 and then I had some baked lasagna. I have 243 calories left for the day. I’ll probably have some almonds and an Atkins shake for dinner.

I had to tell myself today that Xanax and smoothies are not a food group. But I’m glad I’ve started walking. Just like all my providers have told me, it does help a lot with my moods and anxiety when I exercise.

I got myself off disability 4+ years ago, work full time and raised my daughter to adulthood all on my own, so I’m tired as ***** but I still want to look and feel good so:

I track what I eat with lose it and track my movements with Fitbit.

I’ve been eating my exercise calories and haven’t been seeing the scale move down .

I now work in a bakery so I face temptation every day .

This thread believe it or not is motivating me to be disciplined about my calories and not eat my exercise calories .

My calorie budget is roughly 1600 today I’ve had roughly 1400. That’s good enough.
1200 is the minimum for women.

My diet has been ***** lately as the person I’ve been spending the most time with hates cooking and loves convenience food.

I loathe excuses and I also know that I’ve been known for my healthy cooking .

Hope that was understandable to someone.

I completed my third day off diet cola yesterday! Have been trying to quit for five years. Have been a fiend for twenty years. At last, at last. No cravings. Have only gone one day at the most one other single time and i was nearly hysterical with cravings.

I think i was able to quit this time for two reasons. One, i am a lot happier now. Two, my brand of choice just came out with a caffeine free option and i drank that for a month, so the physical craving wasn't there this time either.

Anyways, feel 100% better. I just drink tap water as i'm near the Great Lakes and our tap water quality here is fantastic and it's free and ubiquitous. I pay thru property taxes of course so might as well get my money's worth!

Still struggling with portion control tho. The quality of my diet has improved immensely, but i am still eating waaaaaaaay too much. It would be so easy to cut back too, like i've been having multiples of some foods. Why don't i just half the number? So frustrated with myself...

@Mountaindewed and all:

Congratulations on the walking! I went with my neighbors yesterday. Four people and four dogs!

@leomama and all:

I so admire your cooking skills. I'm struggling to develop some at 54. What i wouldn't give to go back in time and learn at my mom's side...

Today I'm making lime salsa chicken tacos. Basically you just put like a pound of skinless boneless chicken breasts in the crockpot w/ a jar of chunky salsa and some lime juice, let it cook for a couple hours on high, then let it cook for another couple hours on low, then shred the chicken w/ two forks, then serve on tortillas with whatever toppings you want

I don't know if I'm walking on the treadmill today or not, it depends how I feel later today when the food is done cooking. I didn't sleep last night so I don't know how much energy I'll still have later. But I will do some exercises with my 8lb weights either way

So far today I’ve had a coconut milk refresher and avocado toast from Dunkin Donuts for breakfast, and a scoop of cinnamon protein powder in a glass of water for lunch. I have over 800 calories left. I bought a pull up/ chin up stand up thing last night on Amazon. I plan on working out. I was so against it before but now I want to.

I lost 3 lbs in the last week. So far I had a blueberry muffin for breakfast, breadsticks for a morning snack and scrambled eggs with potatoes and vegetables for lunch.
