Heh, yea I'll save up for that right after I pay the cat's vet visit, my meds, the new roof.... if there is anything left!

It seems like the future holds a new foam mattress and it will have to do. I think I can forget a spring mattress, sometimes they are sold used but I have no transport.

Its good to be thinking forward thinking SilverNeurotic. You will be lost on a king size.

As long as you are comfortable on a foam jimi. I loved my foam mattress when I was in my teens. Maybe you could check out places that deliver?

Well that wont help me...... lols

So I am going shopping tomorrow. I do believe that I need to buy a new mattress cover, but considering what I paid for the bed itself I am loathe to fork any more money out on new sheets etc. I am thinking about looking in some op shops along the way and seeing if any body has already donated new linen they got at christmas time. I can see bills coming at me further along the line, for other things, and it all makes me feel a bit sick.

Hello Possum darling!!!. Edna here. I'd just like to slip a quick one in if you don't mind. As you know my dear departed husband Norm, 'Sir Norman', died in hospital in !988 after many years prostrate with his prostate. For a small donation i managed to aquire the mattress and i still sleep on it to this day as it still has the indentation of his dead body and stains from assorted bodily fluids.Luckily the mattress is big enough so that i don't have to sleep on Norman but it is enough that i can still smell him next to me. It's either him or the mould under the mattress. Madge has tried to get rid of it but it keeps coming back. A bit like her, poor dear, haha. Perhaps it's Madge that i can smell. I'm thinking of making a plaster cast of the indentation as a tribute to Norm and entering it in the Turner prize for conceptual art in England. If Tracy Emin's bed and someone turning a light bulb on and off can win then i must stand a chance. Anyway Possum darling keep things in good order down under and on my next trip home i'll come and see you in Woolamaloo, Love Edna.

Oh I do love you lot. I was as cranky as all get out today. My little flat has retained the heat well. Parking the car was a nightmare. I woke up in pain from my bed blah blah blah...... then I come to this bed thread. And I just start laughing. Ptang you are a funny bugga. I'm sure the real dame would really approve and wrinkle the nose. Shortandcute was short and short and sweet and sewwerats simple stated the bleeding obvious............

I do love you guys.............

I ended up getting a mattress protector and a cheap but new doona cover that looks like it has sepia postcards on it. My mission tomorrow is to clear out what may be under the bed. Dust bunnies beware..............

I bought a sleep number bed before I left my H & moved to KY (7 years ago)....brought that with me...one of the few things I brought......for about the first year, I was too lazy to put it together & was sleeping in the spare bedrooms on folding lawn chairs & air mattresses on the floor until my dogs punctured all of them....finally decided to haul all the parts upstairs & put it together.

It's really wonderful however the air continually goes out of the side I sleep on....I also purchases a foam topper somewhere that I have layed out on top of the mattress. I really like the feel of the foam as when I was first married we bought the most expensive foam mattress that was available from one of the top mattress companies.....so I really love the feel & warmth of the foam.....but I still have to inflate the sleep number bed once a week at least even with the foam topper.

I don't sleep a lot & a lot of nights just doze at the computer all night....but my eskies love it when I go to bed.....they curl up right next to me & snuggle....they LOVE it when I really do go to bed....think they love my bed more than I do.

Yeeeeh, mine is at least 5 years old, I think. I also have the problem with springs, and sometimes find it really uncomfortable. :| I'll be moving out at some point (still waiting for my supported housing) so I figured I'd just wait until then, when I could just get a double bed and a very nice mattress. It seems pointless spending heaps on a nice mattress, now, when it may or may not get used for long.

Dear fellow Bed....ouins............. ha ha? Beds also cost mega bucks in australia Sabrina. Would love to buy one from the US or UK bed but shipping costs would stack it right back up there.........

Anyway my bed came yesterday

It felt strange in it last night. It smelt new. And it is higher than the old bed so I have to get up into it. I didnt wake up feeling stiff and sore. Woot. Woot.

I think I might still get some kind of foam layer to put on the top. I will wait and see. I had to get up early. this morning so I had a nanna nap today.
Thanks for this!

A 2 yr old Sealy bed---firm with a pillow top---ahhhhhh!

I read something gross about how mattresses gain weight over time from dead skin cells and dust mites

I have nothing against foam and found it very comfortable when I was growing up.

Sleeping on a military cot.......... ouch ouch ouch.... you must be very fit cutie and young or both

growly cat......... ewwww ewww ewww. You didn't factor in tears and drool for pillows that should be changed regularly anyway. Who doesn't vacuum their mattress and wash their protector

Night two on my bed felt much better - I told those springs who was boss ha ha. I try not to lay close to the edge as I feel like I feel like I am going to fall off the edge. There is a slight mound in the mattress as things are settling in. No, I am not that mound.......

Koala's might seem cute and cuddly, but they are noisy grunting individuals making sleep impossible as they are mostly awake during the wee night hours. The scratches from their claws would rip your skins to shreds........... so I will pass on that idea sewerrats. Don't feel like getting a dose of chlamydia either
