This makes me sound a little like I am enjoying your discomfort, Sabrina (please don't misunderstand), but I have been reading this thread with interest.
I am sorry that it's uncomfortable for you. I remember using a spray bottle of water on myself to get the evaporation effect when I had my fans on. And putting a bad of ice in front of the portable fan in hopes of falling asleep. I am not a fan of harsh winters and it gets warm here, but we have air conditioning so I'm grateful for that. Somewhere in the world must be a place where the weather is perfect and there are no bugs... Last edited by Anonymous37954; Jan 28, 2016 at 10:49 PM. |

I have a friend in Southern Australia. Whenever she's hot...I'm not. That sounds bad doesn't it?

I can relate. I only do well in cold or rainy weather, never hot or sunny.

Is it a dry or humid heat? I'd feel immobilized in that extreme.

It's a bit of inbetween heat. I used to have humid heat where I lived 2½ years ago. Now we're not quite on the coast so it is a little drier.
All I know, it is a little after 7am. I have had a cold shower - and already the sweat is pouring off me. I absolutely can't bear it! But I sound so ungrateful! The days are really beautiful (if the wind isn't gusting) but it would be nice to be able to breathe.

Having lived in the Southern California Mojave desert for almost 20 years, I can relate to heat....but it was mostly DRY heat....but the wind was bad also & the dust would blow so bad you could hardly see across the street out at the ranch where I kept my horses. Here in KY, the heat the first few years was bad but it's cooled down so much. Had to laugh because the first few years here I was dealing with hot flashed that I blamed on the weather....had no idea they were hot flashes. In the summer after working with the horses or out in the fields on my farm....those cool showers feel wonderful but I usually start off hot then cool them down.....in the winter in the really cold temps.....those hot showers feel wonderful.
What I hate about hot is that it's impossible to cool down, but in the freezing temps, one can always put on layers to warm up. I have had several almost heat strokes in my life time......so it makes me even that much more sensitive to the heat.....or so the medical profession says. Doing the least amount of activity is probably the best for staying cool. I also have ceiling fans or fans sitting on the table that I let blow in the heat & it does cool down my skin temp to be a lot more bearable.....but not comfortable.

We've had a lot of fires in the province. Our town is surrounded by beautiful mountains, and last night some of them were aglow with rampaging fires. One of our friend's lost their farm and beautiful camp site. The fires are just harder to manage with the heat. There are drop off points for people to drop off energy bars, sandwiches, water and energy drinks and stuff like that for our firefighters.
We're officially in our hottest month now. I just need to hang on (and stop wearing a bra ![]()

We just got 9" of wet snow over a 2,000 sq. mile area in 4 hours. Imagine a day when we might temporarily divert the polar jet streams to deliver a micro climate to a given area. A forest fire could be eliminated with not only moisture but cool temperatures as well by an artificial blizzard...in the middle of Summer.
I'll bet that thought made you smile. ![]()
