((bebop)) - sorry you're in pain. I've had a colonoscopy but not polyps removed, so I don't know how much pain is expected from this....hopefully someone who's had polyp removal will answer. Maybe you should call the doctor if this feels too painful. Are they doing lab results on them - if so I hope all comes back good. Hope you feel better soon.

(((bebop)))

I've had a colonoscopy as well, but nothing was removed. Just want you to know that you're in my thoughts & I hope that you get some helpful advice and understanding very soon.

((((((((( bebop )))))))))

I'm not sure that it was the procedure that upset your tummy. As you know I had 6 removed a couple of weeks ago, and I can say I didn't have any discomfort anywhere after the procedure.

I'm thinking maybe the cleansing may have upset your tummy some and you might want to tell the dr how you felt after the procedure.

I'm so proud of you for going and having it done!
Thanks for this!

Good you're feeling a little less pain today ((bebop)) and I pray the pathology comes back all clear. During the colonoscopy procedure, they have to blow in some air I think so maybe these were gas pains, since Sabby said she didn't have pain. Keep us informed and we'll be praying all is well.

I had this procedure too, tho no polyps. I did have several biopsies taken. I was in quite a bit of pain for a few days after. I do think the cleansing contributed to that. The other thing that went wrong was that the Versed did not work as intended, it is supposed to create an amnesia effect. Well I became aware during the procedure, confused and freaked out, terrified, I tried to crawl off the stretcher for quite a few minutes before they could give me more. It was very scary, but I think that may have also contributed to the pain after. Also when i did become aware I also was in extreme pain, and the dr was being very rough, which of course was not what I had expected, so some pain makes some sense. Actually Versed does not cause you to not feel the pain, they also use Fentanyl which is an analgesic, so it would not seem like a painful procedure if that is what was used. But from what I experienced, the procedure itself can be very rough and painful.

I hope your results come back free and clear! Will keep you in my thoughts!

if the pain only started yesterday, the chances are that you have eaten something that has irritated a removal wound, this could be a sharp piece of hard food or something, even a crispy coating or sharp piece of toast could scratch an inflamed empty tummy on its way through. be nice to your tum and give it softer foods for a day or two and it should be ok.
I had a 4 cm polip removed a while back, yes 4cm! the biggest the surgeon had ever seen! the removal is painless as there are no nerve endings in the lining of the colon......, what made me feel ill was the drugs they gave before to empty/clense me the cramps made my tummy muscles hurt for a few days as the muscles had worked harder than they ever had! the drugs they gave during the procedure relaxed me but did not put me out cold, i was fascinated to watch the camera going through me on a screen beside me, even watched them snip off the polip and tattoo the site! I never dreamed i'd ever have a tattoo especially up my bum!
if the pain has been present from a few hours after the op it could be possible for internal bruising if the surgeon was rough and poked the scope/instruments against other organs/areas outside the colon....., but as the lining is delecate they tend to not push the sides too much in case they burst it.

hope you are feeling better soon. good luck with the path results x

Like you yellowted, I was not completely "out" during the procedure and was able to watch it being done. The same thing happened years ago when I had an endometrial ablation, I was able to come to enough to watch what the doc was doing on the screen. I am not squeemish so it was really cool to see these procedures happening. I even remember the nurse asking me how I was doing through the colonoscopy. I told her I was fine, I felt nothing.

bebop, I hope you are feeling better and that you will get your results very soon. I know that waiting for them can be difficult and stressful. You are in my thoughts and prayers my friend!

I thinking about you, too! (((Bebop))) You were wise to get it done, with your family history. I started before age 50 with having them done, since colon cancer runs in my family.

The pain could be from the procedure itself (the tube could have rubbed against the intestinal lining), from the biopsies, from preparing for the procedure, and/or from something you ate. At any rate, I'm glad you're recovering and are wishing for negative results.

You can get a colonoscopy without being knocked out? I have a few years before I'm supposed to start getting them done, but I have panic disorder and the idea of swallowing a pill or getting an injection or whatever to knock me out, freaks me out! I know it sounds silly, but the moment I feel my body going out of control (like getting sleepy), I can get panicky. I've had it happen with normal sleepiness, even. But I would probably get panicky before I felt the effects, right after swallowing the pill/taking the injection, knowing there was no turning back.

Maven, Yes you can, actually I don't think they actually knock people out for this. The meds they tend to give people block pain, or try to block the memory, sometimes they use both. If they give you something like Versed, then you will seem to loose consciousness, it is used to produce amnesia. I would look that up before ever being given it, just to be sure it's something you would want to take. Well I would look up all meds before taking them. You can ask your doctor about which medications would be used.

well I found out today that not all 11 were nothing but probably like precancerous. can't remember the name the report said. My primary dr told me today. so the gastro's nurse lied to me! makes me really uncomfy!

Wow, I hope they turn out to be benign. I'd be upset with the gastro's nurse, too!

Shame on that nurse! Maybe you should report her so she doesn't do that to anyone else.
I hope everything turns out okay, Bebop. Please keep us posted.

I have had precancerous polyps removed several times. The thing to remember is they have been removed and are gone, and they were not cancerous. They'll probably ask that you have repeat colonoscopies a bit more frequently than usually recommended just to keep and eye on things. Otherwise, not something to worry too much about. Just be sure you have the recommended rechecks.

farmergirl is right (((((( bebop ))))))

Sounds like the nurse spoke before she had all the results in. Silly nurse!

All mine were precancerous as well. The thing about colon cancer is that it is a very slow moving cancer. I was told that I need another colonoscopy in 5 years because of the precancerous polyps. That's how slowly this kind of cancer moves.

This is not something that is unusual hon. All it means is that the polyps you have are the kind that can turn cancerous....doesn't mean that they will. The great thing is that you went through with the test and removal. Knowledge is power and now you have the power to keep it in check from here on out.

I was a bit nerve-wracked when I first heard too. It's a natural response to have. As I let it sink in and talked with the dr and did some research, I'm much more comfy with the idea of it all and will do what the dr suggests I do. I don't give it any thought anymore.....hang in there my friend....you will be fine!
