I've had depression/anxiety for some time and I lost my appetite. For some weeks, I can't eat and I've lost weight. I feel like every bite I take is too big for my mouth and stomach. I'm just not hungry at all. My favorite food doesn't look appetizing. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I used to have trouble eating on occasion. I think it helps to make sure that what you do eat is nutrient-dense, including foods like mango, beans, fish, egg, or kale.

I know some people recommend fruit smoothies, but those can wind up being a lot of sugar and little else. Better than nothing, though.

When I was going through severe panic attacks, my appetite fell to nothing. I was eating maybe 600-800 calories a day, and throwing half of that up. The only things I could even stand to look at were plain yogurt, cottage cheese, and bananas.

Maybe it might help to see a nutritionist to see what you do feel like you can eat without getting sick. My previous experience with restricting has taught me a lot about my body. The longer I went without food the more sick I felt when I actually did eat.

There are some anti depressants that work to increase your appetite as well. Do you think you can do vitamin water or a Boost to see if you can get some calories and nutrients into you?

I commonly have the same issue relating to my mental health. I'm not really so much aware of it as I used to be -- when this symptom is sort of "new," it's very alarming to go many hours and ask yourself "why the ***** am I not hungry!" If I realize I've gone a span without eating and still have no appetite, I will try and snack on something salty -- chips, popcorn.. I find the salty food stimulates my appetite. From there I make something light to eat as to not stress my stomach. Usually a salad and toast and a fruit to try and hit all the food groups.

Protein smoothies are good, also.. I usually carry granola bars on me as they are dense and don't leave me feeling nauseated after. Not usually. And bananas. Easy to eat, easy on your stomach.
