wow tomi that is alot to grasp at one time. I am checking into the bypass myself right now too kind of. my dad's vascular dr does that and I am considering it. I am 100 lbs overweight and I believe my insurance would pay most of the cost. anyway back to you! sorry hon. do you do daily finger pricks for the diabetes? as for the pituatary, is there anything they can do for that? get that biopsy hon! I think you have found a dr that is going to help you now! woo hoo!

i have to agree about that doc being such a thorough one. i know it's overwhelming, especially at first. docs being this thorough is kind of a rarity, if you ask me. lol. ((((tomi)))) sorry about that leg! my sliding door sucks and won't open sometimes. i know because it smarts like crazy when my dog accidentally moves my kneecaps when we play (i had surgery on my knees 7 years ago).

No, I don't do the daily "blood letting." LOL Maybe I should. We'll see what this diabetes lady has to say. Don't know what I'd do if the sugar level got too high. I'm not on any meds for that right now.

Doesn't sound like there's much they can do about the pituitary except Hormone Replacement Therapy which is totally different than the HRT that women do when they go through menopause.

Check out these sites that have info on gastric surgery. I found them very informative.

Coastal Center for Obesity

And

Weight Loss Surgery Health Center - WebMD

Make sure you know EXACTLY what you're in for before making up your mind. No way am I done researching the subject at this point. The complications are pretty darn nasty, from what I hear. You also want to make sure your medical team has LOTS of experience doing this kind of stuff! Do you think you can last a whole month on nothing but a protein drink?? There's lots to consider! Then there's the diarreah that lasts the rest of your life. Oh, no! Now what??

Something else I learned was that with gastric bypass, you can lose up to 80% of what you need to lose. With the lap-band surgery, you only lose 60% plus you have this nifty little pump hanging out of you that you adjust the tightness of the band with... yourself! I don't think so!! Not me, anyway.

Think about it long and hard, Hon! Oh, no! Now what??

I agree, WW! It's really rare to find a doctor as thorough as this one was yesterday. Something else that's rare is all the time he had to devote to me!

My leg sure hurt me last night, but I have no bruises today. Weird! I figured the leg would be all swollen and black and blue, but it's not. IT HURT SO BAD!! Oh, no! Now what?? There's a little bump where the door hit me, but nothing much to speak of. Guess I'm still "a tough old broad"! Oh, no! Now what?? Just wish my pituitary gland was as tough as the rest of me. Oh, no! Now what??

Oh, no! Now what??

tomi I learned alot about it last week while at the hospital with my dad. he was on the bariatric wing and his dr does these all the time. one thing I learned is you can never have soda again. ever! what? no sugars ever again. yes it is something you have to think long and hard about. there are meetings to go to for information purposes that everyone that has one has to go to. it can take up to a yr to get prepared. long proccess! not sure my insurance would even help pay for it but due to being diabetic they might. something I have to check into.

Yeah, I sure was overwhelmed yesterday! Today, I'm just thinking of one thing at a time. This minute, it's the gastric bypass. The next minute I'll probably be thinking of my thyroid, or my kidneys... or something like that! LOL Oh, no! Now what??

nope not even diet! Oh, no! Now what?? tomi with your issues if you have insurance it might help pay the cost. this girl I talked to last week only had to come up with 1800 of the cost. not sure what it is costing these days.

maybe we should get jannie to educate us on this.

My State insurance would pay for all of it. Still don't know what to do about my primary insurance. It's more trouble than it's worth! They turn everything down. Oh, no! Now what?? My State insurance winds up paying for everything anyway. Oh, no! Now what??

well heck hon if I could get it done without paying out of pocket I would go for it in a heartbeat. if you want I can pm you some stuff I have found online. the thing is they don't tell what you can and can't do after surgery. you might check into bariatric meetings in your area. the informational ones that is. most bariatric drs or hospitals have them. I think they are free

Oh, no! Now what?? One step ahead of you! I've been checking into it today. Oh, no! Now what?? I'm also going to talk to the diabetes educator about it and see what she knows.

It could be that I would have to go through my doctors and see who they recommend being as the State insurance would pay for it. There's a lot to consider there, too. The County drs aren't always the best, ya know? They may want to send me to the County hospital. Oh, no! Now what??

I think if drs take medicare/medicaid then they will do it at the hospital they use. it is a very specialized field. happy hunting!

hahaha I think maybe you misunderstood me on that one lol. I mean I don't know what surgeons would accept those but I am sure they would use a great hospital. private hospitals.

Uhh... no... If the drs take medicaid, they use the County hospital, NOT a private one. Oh, no! Now what??

((((tomi)))) i know what it's like to have medicaid, since i used to have medicaid for years before i got married. even though we have a good insurance coverage, it still can be a hassle. i do know all that "jumping through hoops" they make us do in order for us to get coverage for things like what you're going through.

i'm currently battling my insurance company for coverage on a treatment that i need. so, i'm jumping through crazy hoops. it's a long process for me, though (don't want to worry you - difference companies' processes run differently). i seriously hope you get through this without too much stress and hope your docs will be helpful (know that they also feel the pain of the insurance companies' myriad of rules and processes, too). anyway, i totally understand how you feel about having surgery done at the county hospital, as i would be the same way. i go to another city for the best care i can recieve (2 hour drive, and my hubby takes off work to take me there once a month).

wishing you the absolute best. ((((tomi))))
