Friends,
Husband injured his knee going on two month's ago now. He has been in quite a bit of pain, and saw an orthopedist a month ago. Today was his one-month follow-up visit. Husband said his knee felt better before the visit than it had been, but after the doctor manipulated his knee this way and that, and poked the joint where it hurts the most -- guess what his knee feels worse now. Does anyone have any experience with injured knees, and have you felt worse after a doctor's visit? Any insight and/or support will be appreciated. EJ |

He's supposed to be icing his knee, which is swollen, and one exercise, which loosens up the muscles so they don't pull on the knee cap. Let's see, and come back and see him in a month.

It seems awfully long time to be dealing with it to have it "get worse" after the doctor? Has he been to a physical therapist? My husband had an arm problem and it took several months of physical therapy but they found/corrected the problem! Now he does exercises daily/religiously. My neck/shoulder thing was helped by physical therapy even though it mostly needed time. I got an MRI to make sure there wasn't anything wrong and there was a torn muscle (but should have caused the pain I was having) and a few little, common, to-be-expected-for-my-age arthritis things going on in my neck but the massage and "attention" were helpful to me too. Took about 3 months to go away completely though. Sometimes it would hurt after and sometimes it would be better, depended on "its" mood :-)
I think knees are tricky things though; good luck to him!

Just thought I'd add in, I've had a long (well for my age) history of knee problems. I've had 2 surgeries and going to have a 3rd soon. I always leave my surgeons office in more pain than I went in with. They move and press the joint in loads of ways and it does increase the pain. I find it settles down after a few days. I tend to take a painkiller and anti inflammatory just before going to see him, so that it will help with the pain after.

Friends,
Some good news! Husband said today that his knee is starting to feel a bit better. It's been seven weeks since he injured it, and the doctor said it would take 8 - 12 weeks before it was better. I noticed I estimated the time of the injury incorrectly in my first post. EJ |
