When you take a drivers license eye exam is that for distance or close up. I did not pass the exam. I wear glasses for reading only. I don't even use them for the computer. I only need them for small print. I don't use them to drive. I didn't have them with me. I'm not sure what to do now. If I use them for the test then I will have to have them on to drive and I will be looking through clear glass because they are bi focals. They are for reading at the bottom and clear glass at the top. I just got them about 6 months ago when I had a eye exam. The glasses were $300 so I don't want new glasses. I'm not sure what to do. I wonder due to stress, it could affect my eyesight.

Any suggestions?

Hmmm, I dunno! I have to wear glasses 24/7, so they let me take the exam with them on. Even then, if I haven't been to the eye dr. in a while, it's a struggle!

Maybe check out your state's DMV website? They probably won't be open Monday because of MLK Day.

Stress can affect vision. The test is set up to simulate sign reading as if you were driving. Most ppl who have glasses have one eye lens adjusted for close up and one for distance, and it works for that....

Please ask to re-take the test with your glasses on. If that works then it would mean you would need to wear them when you drive. That's okay because you want to be able to see to keep yourself safe while driving.

I'm curious; I was thinking that bifocals have two areas of correction in them. Could you have misunderstood about the upper area of the lenses that isn't for reading?

Some medications can affect vision too.

The eye exam is for all sorts of different things. What part did they say you flunked and what are you supposed to do now? They tell you specifically. My husband had to get special glasses to drive with (your reading glasses won't do) but he only drives with them at night; they help with glare.

This is what our state requires: http://www.marylandmva.com/DriverSer...en/default.htm

In the UK, it is reading a licence plate at 20 metres: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring...ide/DG_4022529

If you can't read at that distance, you need glasses/ improved glasses.

In our state we have to renew our drivers license in person. They told me that they could renew it for daytime driving only, the way the test was. I just didn't renew it. I have until March. I will see my eye doctor on Wednesday and will explain to him. I had an exam last August. My insurance won't pay because it's sooner than 12 months. I tried driving today with the glasses I have for reading and it made my distance worse.

I'll just have to explain my situation to the eye doctor and see what he says. I don't have to buy glasses right away, I see my Pdoc the 1st of Feb and I can decide then what needs to be done. I hate to buy new glasses if it's a side effect from meds or something.

This last year has been awful. I don't even feel like this is me. I can't believe 1 person can have so many things go wrong.

Tomorrow I see the surgeon for a consultation on a breast biopsy.

It sounds like you just didn't pass the night vision? That's different glasses than your reading glasses, doesn't have anything to do with them. I would have just renewed it and driven during the day until you got it all straightened out.

Here's the pamphlet? Did they give you one of these?

http://www.publicsafety.ohio.gov/pub...veIt_08_06.pdf

Hope your biopsy consult goes well tomorrow, I'll be thinking of you when I'm in the dentist.

My 80 yr. old MIL only wore glasses for reading, if then.....vanity you know.

When she went to get her license renewed she too failed the test, and was told she had to come back with glasses to retake it. She even had to go to the Highway patrol office to show them the RX and glasses to get her license.

We thought it was really overkill, heck she had never worn glasses for distance. Then she went to the eye doctor.....her vision in one eye was 20/200 and the other 20/400 . Drivers License Eye Exam

She was so excited when she got her glasses, she said everything was "3-dimensional" Drivers License Eye Exam. Needless to say, she wears her glasses now, and we feel a lot better that she does Drivers License Eye Exam.

I wouldn't wear them because if your were prescribed reading glasses then your probably far sided more then near sided which means you have difficulties seeing what's near you instead of what's far away. I am actually near sided in one eye and far in the other and have a hard time focusing my eyes...but I passed the eye exam easily, they don't get into like you'd think...they're very busy.

I don't know how to help you about not passing your eye test, but I want you to know I care. Please let us know about your breast biopsy. I know it's a very scary thing.

You mentioned that you've had a lot of illnesses in the last year. Sometimes it seems our body just goes into a state of rebellion.

Please let us know how you're doing.

Hugs,

I'm starting to think it might be my meds. I'm on Topamax. It could be a side effect and haven't noticed it being that bad until I took the eye test. I have a call in to my PDoc.

I saw the breast surgeon today. She couldn't feel it and doesn't think it is a problem, but still needs to do a biopsy to be sure. I told her to schedule it ASAP. She said even if it is C, it won't be a problem this early.

Thanks to you all, I'll keep you posted.

I saw my PDOC and he thinks it is anxiety. He told me to take Xanex once a day for 10 days prior to taking the test again. We'll see.
