Wondering if anyone has had experience with being exposed to mono while pregnant. If so, what was your experience? Did you contract mono? Was there any medications taken for it? How did it affect your pregnancy?

Not quite sure if my daughter has mono yet, but my other daughter is pregnant and I'm trying to get some info just in case Dreaded word "biopsy"

Thanks!

i would talk to her ob. however, while mono is very contagious, it is only by direct fluid exchange. my sister had it really bad and the dr had us use a little clorox in the dishwater, and of course no kissing on the mouth or eating/drinking after her, and none of the rest of us got it.

as for the one with suspected mono, plenty of fluid and rest, and don't let her talk you into getting back into stuff to soon. it can be viscious to shake off. took my sister 6 months, and my youngest daughter missed 2 months of 8th grade.

Thanks (((((((((((((( lost )))))))))))))))))))

Well the test came back negative for mono and strep. Thank goodness for that. But......they are now taking xrays of her neck and throat to see what's going on with the soft tissue. She had an issue with swollen glands about 6 months ago and they never did figure out what was going on. Hopefully more blood testing/urine testing/xrays will show results. I'm a tad concerned here......keeping my fingers crossed.

It's been determined that my oldest is suffering from Lingual Tonsilitus. I never knew there was a 3rd tonsil Dreaded word "biopsy"

She is on antibiotics and liquid pain killers and needs to call the doctors office tomorrow to check in. She goes back a week from Friday and they will determine if she needs to have it removed. *uggh* But thank goodness it is not contagious!

glad they figured out what it is. a third tonnsil? maybe that explains some of my youngest problems. encourage her to get feeling really better though before getting back into her routine.

The mono thing would be all right apparently:

The presence of a mono infection during pregnancy is not associated with miscarriages or birt]h defects, but it does warrant close medical attention to fever, decreased appetite, and potential dehydration.

Don't know about third tonsils; maybe the baby will be born with one :-)

There are actually four tonsils! The paletine (pair that are visible near uvula), the adnoids are actually a tonsil about an inch above the uvula (in an adult) and the lingual tonsil, at the base of the tongue (usually not visible, but we veiwed our own in Anatomy lab!)

Hope your daughter feels better and that removal is not necessary.

ahhh thank you so much (((((((((((((serafimetal)))))))))))))))

I didn't realize that the adnoids were considered tonsils too. Dreaded word "biopsy"

Both my girls and grandson (as well as myself) have had the obvious tonsils and adnoids removed in childhood.

It's very interesting to learn about that 4th tonsil behind the tongue. I too hope it clears up and she has no more issues with it. I would think that surgery of this type at her age would be a tad more risky than as a child having it.

Well, once again my daughter Amy had another bout with the massive swelling, throat pain and ear pain and was put on another round of antibiotics. The last time she ended up with thrush as well. I felt so badly for her.

The doctor ordered a CT Scan and it was done on Monday. Today she received the results and unless the doctor is not saying something about the results, he went straight to wanting a biopsy without ordering an MRI first. He claims he could not tell exactly what was going on by the CT Scan.

So I'm sitting here trying so hard not to be worried until there is real reason to worry, but lord it is hard sometimes.

Thanks hon....I'm trying hard....but Amy just told me that on the paperwork the doctor made, he said he wanted the biopsy done ASAP....she is scheduled for next Wednesday. She'll go under general anesthesia to have it done. I would imagine we won't know anything until next Friday.....arrrrghhh....a whole week without info...this is not going to be easy *sigh*

Daughter had her biopsy today. Will have to wait a week for the results...next Thursday afternoon. *sigh* Another long week of waiting....lord I hate this.

The biopsy itself went well...they had trouble getting an IV started as daughter has small, rolling veins. It took 2 tries. I guess it could have been worse.

Then, it took 2 doctors to get the breathing tube in her throat for the surgery. The doctor told me that if she ever goes for more surgery to let the anesthesiologist know it's a difficult task.

She's home resting comfortably right now. Tomorrow I imagine she will be more uncomfortable...but she's got some good liquid painkiller to take.

Hope I can sleep tonight and the next night and the next night...and on and on...............................................................................

I'm sorry you are going through so much. It is a standard of care to order STAT Biopsies when there is any indication that an area on the CT/x-ray etc., might be malignant.

I know it is a long wait but I hope it brings some answers and assurance.

I want to thank everyone for their support and prayers. My daughter does not have throat cancer!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm letting out a collective sigh of relief and at the same time I have a roaring headache from the dang stress of it all.

The ENT suggested that she have her lingual tonsil removed but that he had never done them before. He has referred her to Dartmouth Hitchcock which is a teaching hospital...one of the best so they say. Unfortunately, they are short one ENT (there are only 2) and may not be able to get her in until January. So we shall see and hope that she doesn't get ill again between now and then.
