I started putting my current work in a rubbermaid bin. The rest of my yarn is in a big wooden theatrical roadbox. The door openes like a fridffge so the cat always tries to get in. Double crochet is just one step over single crochet. You yarn over hook, insert hook in work, yarn over again, pull through first wtwo looops, wait no that doesn't sound right lol. You can goodgle step by step double crocht. . If you're interested in the granny ripplem, google linus project granny ripple. Its a great pattern. Now I'm wanting to crochet lol.

I also find that it helps keeps my hands limber.

You know...I think it helps my hands also. I have arthritis in my hands, and I think it helps them to crochet. I know how to do the double crochet, and I'll check out the granny ripple pattern as well.
It sounds like you have some good storage options for your projects and yarn, which is essential with pets! My 7 month old pup loves to get into the yarn!

I've heard a lot of people say that crochet helped their hands. Especially when I wasn't online for seven months, not typing my hands got bad. I started just messing with scrap yarn, tried to start a granny square and ended up with six sides LOL, so now thats my scrap yarn piece. I just "scrump", leaving loose ends hanging. I had joined a crochet forum before I went blind, crochetville.com. Very fun site. I don't think I remember my login info so I won't try to log back in for now lol.

Oh, Ray. I had no idea that you went blind. I haven't been on PC very much in the last year. I'm really sorry for the latest developement. I can understand how hard it is.

When I had a stroke 3 years ago, doctors thought I had M.S. for months. I had read up on that to learn how to live with it. They say pacing yourself is the best thing to do when it comes to dealing with fatigue. There are technology that can help with fatigue. Any shortcuts that you can take can be very helpful. You may think that it's lazy, but any saved energy means that you have energy to do more in the day. Oh, and don't get too hot or overheated as it can exacerbate the symptoms.

I wish you the best. Hugs to you.

Hiya WW. I remember you. Its been a heck of a year for me LOL. I'm pretty good at living with the MS, it just got more complicated when I went blind. Anything I do now seems to take more energy. Now that its winter I don'thave to worry so much about getting hot. I recently went to West Virginia and the cold helped.

I'm really excited, I finally ventured away from PC and joined an email list of other blind epeople. We'v e been talking since last night. REALLY COOL. But....email lists are a pain. I searched and searched for a forum....there isn't one. So guess what my new mission is? A forum like this, focusing on the blind and visually impaired and their friends and family. No clue how to start it....if I have to hire a webmaster so be it LOL. I thought about checking out V Bulletin, I think thats who hosts PC but I don't need something as complicated as PC. I want it as easy as possible. The main issue will be that security box where you have to type the letters. There's an option to listen but it didn't work very well when I set up an email acct. Had to have bf read the letters to me. Sooooooo.......I'm gonna do this, just have to figure out how to get started. Would be cool eh?

some sites use questions instead of security boxes. Like what color is grass? Wich would be green, of course. So maybe choose something like that?

I told my teacher about it today and he said he's seen that so I'll definitely look into that. Turns out the tech guy is blind too so he'll definitely have some good pointers.

Yeah I'm excited. One of my ideas will be to have a spot where sited people can play with the reader, and then I'll also suggest things like "put a blindfold on and go about your morning routine". I think it'll be neat.

Oh man.....we only did about forty minutes of cane training today and I'm beat. I told him I was out with my friend for hours yesterday and didn't get so tired. He said its totally different when I'm hanging on to people because it doesn't take all the cognition that the cane does. He read up on MS so he knows that when I start to get tired, I'm done. I told him he killed me haha.

I think it worked? Levi didn't say anything. So apparently he says nothing when there's smilies. Or maybe because I have images turned off. Dunno.

Why didn't the spinning heart work? :hug2:

Sounds like you're having fun with the emoticons. I hope your website idea comes out ok. I wish you good luck on that. As for telling the sighted people to wear a blindfold and go about their routines is a good education on blindness.

When I was in college, I went to a weekend leadership event with a group of other students. One time, the host had us play this game in where we are blindfolded and being led by the host to do whatever. It was so frustrating for me because I'm deaf and blind. My eyes are my ears. (One eye, really. I was born blind in my left eye with a little sight.) So, it was an experience I don't want to have again. Hehe.

Funniest thing is while growing up, I practiced going to the bathroom blind-style. In other words, no lights whatsoever. Even in a bathroom with no window. Oh, I just remembered something! When I was deep down in the Wyandotte Cave and all of us turned our flashlights off. Amazing darkness!

For some reason, I'm so curious in how your reader works. I'm glad that you are doing ok and that you have a good teacher who understands a bit about M.S. I haven't figured out how the stick works, except to tap it on the ground or floor to make sure there is no drop or an obstruction. Am I right with that one?

Eh, I could go on forever. Haha.

Take care.

My friend had MS--that's such a struggle. He was very young when diagnosed. You handle it MUCH better than he did!

I'm very happy to hear all of your great ideas. I would HATE cane training! Sounds like torture training!

Wow I forget to check in so I'm really glad I can view subscriptions and find old threads I've posted in. There were some questions asked that I never answered. Not sure I'll remember even though I just read through the last few posts haha.

WW, with the cane, I have a big roller ball on the end. Its about the size of a billiard ball. I sweep the cane back and forth in front of me, sweeping to the left when my right foot is frward, and vice versa. It doesn't really miss anything, at least not anything bad like steps and curbs and such. Sometimes if there's a small raise in concrete, the cane won't pick it up and I might trip, and it doesn't pick up speed bumps well yet. Eventually I'll go to a smaller ball. Its amazing the freedom it affords. I haven't done too much on my own with it. I'm usually with people. A cool thing yesterday tough, I was sitting at Walgreens waiting for a prescription. My friend went to see if it was ready and it was. Without even thinking, I stood up and made my way to her with the cane. I was pretty shocked at what I had just done lol. Its coming along quite nicely. Thursday, my teacher left me alone in an elevator and had me go up and back down alone. THAT freaked me out. I did not like it.

The computer basically reads everything on the screen. There are all sorts of short cut keys. One that I just learned is the link chooser menu. It just lists all the links on the page to cut out all the other stuff. Its helping a lot for navigating PC.

Yeah, I knew I'd forget the other questions haha. Someone had to go under blind fold, yeah a lot of my friends have tried closing their eyes and getting around. My friend told me yesterday that he broke a vase trying it haha.

I'm pretty brain dead right now so I can't remember the other questions. Canders, of course I remember you sweets. I'm going to try not to disappear again.

Oh! I'm learning braille now!

TC,
Rayna

Rayna!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's your Stepford Sister Jan!!!!! I am so glad to hear from you.

When my Dad lost his sight, I went through all the training for him. I fell right over in a big patch of thorn bushes and apologized to a phone pole when I walked into it. lol!

Love you bunches, dear heart.

Jan
