I have been having a lot of various disturbing Intrusive thoughts since I was 8 years old. I am now 21 and from age 19 til about 6 to 8 months ago I had the right dosage of Meds to where I was in control of my intrusive thoughts I was able to let them go if they hit and live a almost completely worry/ OCD free life it felt like... after I switched Psychiatrists that changed 6-8 months ago he started switching my meds after my first consulation and increased other meds I was on and my intrusive thoughts increased ... and it got worse and worse each month. I am now on all new meds , none original meds that I was on when I started seeing him. My intrusive thoughts are harder to deal with I go into extreme anxiety attacks and almost hard to cope ... I work part time at a restaurant and I sometimes feel like Im frozen or in shock and have to go to bathroom to be away from people.. I feel like its getting worse and worse and I see a therapist, but she and I haven't been able to keep a session time for past 2 months more her than me... because of the snow and her family stuff so I haven't been able to discuss it with her.

I have my parents who I live with and they help as much as they can and I try to journal but its getting so hard. I have had a lot of suicidal thoughts lately but I haven't done anything to hurt myself... and I don't plan to.
I just need to figure out a way to get back on track.

my mom gave me a list of new Psychiatrists I can call to try and there is one I am gonna call tomorrow... maybe switching med doctors will help...

any helpful advice or feedback?
anyone else struggle with intrusive thoughts?
How do you cope?

Hi! I can't give you advices about meds because I don't take them (I never talked with a therapist), but I have intrusive thougths too. I don't know if you also have compulsions, but since I started to do anything after my thoughts, also if I had the 'desire' to do certains things, I began to feel less annoyed by these thoughts and to have them less often. And also to understand that I wasn't responsible for them helped a lot. What does your doctor say you to do?

I think you should get CBT, if you haven't already. That's what happens when you see a psychiatrist - I favor the psychologist because they seem to want to get their hands dirty. I strongly suggest trying to remedy the problem at hand, rather than covering it up. Medication is, or can be, great when accompanying the right treatment. This is the kind of stuff that I've been told by professionals, here in the UK, and I also have intrusive thoughts, that have been made much more manageable because of CBT, and, yes, medication to lower my anxiety a bit. (Propranolol, 80mg a day, which works alongside all the techniques I use to lessen the anxiety)

I have never listened about these lists...how do them work? I only try to live my life without 'listening' to my thoughts, also if it isn't always easy. Did you say to your doctor that your lists don't work anymore?

I will try to talk to therapist about CBT then and Meditation is always hard for me... but Iwill try again sometime.

What kind of intrusive thoughts are you getting?

Im really struggling with mine at the moment too. Not found a thing that helps. And I have genuinely tried a lot. I am open to more suggestions but right now I just keep getting told they will never go away I just have to learn to cope with them.

They are thoughts that are irrational and I would never do but they give me anxiety attacks.. that I dont wanna describe. but Therapy and meds do help with right dosage and time spent. just trying to find that balance again I once went almost a year without problems from my Intrusive thoughts/ OCD it was heaven

Okay, so I only recently started having disturbing thoughts and such, but what I have seen so far is that they target the people you care about the most and some of these thoughts are so terrible. But what I do when I get them is I tell my self, these thoughts are not true this is the OCD talking, I would never kill my family or touch a child, now for me those are my two reoccurring thoughts, I'm not sure what yours are. But just take a deep breath, and tell your self these aren't real, I am okay, I will be okay and these thoughts mean nothing. An try to get your self to believe it no matter how hard it may be, now about medication I'm not even on any yet because of how recent my anxiety and OCD have come up but talk to your therapist about getting on a medication that can help you control your intrusive thoughts:P I hope this helped somewhat.

My question is, why would your new psychiatrist change your meds if they were working. Was their a side effect that worried him/her? Just seems to me like if they were working why mess with it.

Because my depression was still there I guess. My new meds are working though a bit more still some intrusive thoughts and depression tho.
