Hello guys.
Its been awhile since ive thought of my experiences, but I did and it prompted me to do a search that led me here. So I shall share, as many of you have. Its nice to be able to say am not alone. ![]() Started for me when I was 5 while laying on a bed, staring up at a ceiling fan, in a white room. I went into so form of a trance, and the movement of the ceiling fan seemed to slow down almost completely and then speed up again really fast, and then it would slow down again, over and over for as long as I can remember.... And then there was what sounded like an audible snap inside my head, or just behind the back of my head, and then I was instantly surrounded by what seemed like 10,000 voices in various different languages, emotions, and temperaments that were all trying to speak to me at once. It was the first and only time that I experienced that kinda of phenomenon, lol at least as far as the voices went. From the point on, off and on until the age of 22, mostly when I remembered the feeling associated with the "movement" of time, I would be thrust into moments that would seem as though the "FAST FORWARD" button had been pressed on life, by like anywhere from 3-5x the normal speed. Everything would happen as normal and I would interact as normal, but while simultaneously maintaining a sort of 3rd person perspective on the entire moment. The time frames varied widely from a few secs, to maybe a few hours. As for the feeling of thiness/bloatedness, I used get them as well as a child. I had a toy that made me feel this way each time I used it. It was one of those little sit and spin things. lol The feelings of expansiveness and contraction, where everything feels so close, and yet so far away, I have also felt and could at one time summon whenever I laid down to goto sleep. Its a wondrous feeling when it seems as though the wall is right next to you and yet your feet seem like they are yard and yards away. For me it felt as if it was a weird sense of gravity, and that by shifting my sense I could shift the feeling of distance between myself and nearby objects or body parts lol Anyways... Thats been my experience. I look forward to learning more about these kinds of experiences. For me one of my ultimate dreams is to be able to truly understand my ability to perceive time... lol and maybe even tweak that perception a lil. I mean seriously.... Who wouldn't want to speed through a BS day at work? Or consciously suck every micro sec out of a beautiful moment? LoL Fantasys... But good 1s. Hope you all find what your looking for. ![]() Mr. Thrasher |

I found this thread because this has happened to me again and wanted to find out what it is, obviously its not just me, but strange still no one knows what it is.
It's strange how everyone can recall it happening to them at a young age. My first experience of it was when I was 9/10, and it seemed like an outer body experience. Everything around me seemed so far away, yet it felt like I could see everything so close? If that makes any sense, it's a difficult situation to explain. I've been having them quite frequently recently, and it seems to occur when I'm on focusing on purely one thing. This can be a thought in my head when i'm in bed, playing a game, reading or doing my coursework. Although it's a strange feeling, I find that it really does enhance my concentration and my ability to perform these tasks more efficiently. (This may be the feeling of time seeming to move fast however). To me it feels like i'm completely zoned in on something, and maybe thats why time seems to move fast and everything seems to lose all meaning of distance? |

I have had the far away perception issue all my life, usually during or following a fever ... researching it, it does seem like Alice in Wonderland syndrome most closely resembles the symptoms. ..however I recently started having the sped up perception issues and they're really frightening but controllable, meaning I never lose awarenessof self. ..but after reading this thread, and after researching epilepsy the way that I have, I feel certain that this is a form of epilepsy guys and gals... -it runs in the family confirmed -it's been suggested in this forum as a possible cause -I've had a fever seizure before when I was young (106 for extended time... Lucky I made it...) -i don't have panic attacks that I'm aware of After reading what everyone has written i feel pretty sure about this but... I am not a doctor, ymmv, etc... Just thought I'd share. I think I'll see a neuro and explore. Thanks everyone for sharing. |

I don't even know if you get on this site anymore, but I'm glad I found this thread. I've had the feeling you're describing several times, but never taken the time to look into it, I don't know why; probably because, like you said, it doesn't last long and is so weird--almost like you're in a trance, and when you come out its just this--almost mental numbness where you just exist.
I had never mental recognized the visual illusion like you mentioned, but I read this, I realized I have that too. It lingers longer than the "speed increase" I experience. This hasn't happened a lot. In fact, I couldn't tell you how many times it has happened. At least 3 or 4 during my adult life at least. The whole time it's happening, I am trying to figure out how fast my body is moving. I can never tell. I thought this time, I wish I could film myself to watch when the feeling passes. I try to slow down my body despite how fast I feel like I'm going, but I wonder if by doing that I'm actually moving much slower than I would normally. I just can't tell at all how fast I'm physically moving. I've also never experienced it when I'm not alone. So I've never actually been talking or listening to anyone when it happened, so I don't know what that would be like. I'm curious to find out though--so if it ever happened again I will be sure to speak out loud and see what it sounds like to me. Perhaps that will give me a reference to how fast I'm physically moving as I can use the two as reference. I just find it so interesting that other people experience the same thing. I've never actually talked to anyone about it. I also have bipolar disorder, but I manage it with medication and I am not in a manic or depressive state whenever these episodes have happened. Anyway---just thought I'd respond, despite my years of tardiness ![]() Quote:

I've experienced something similar since i was 7-8. I used to consider it a nightmare because it always happened as i was going to sleep. Every noise would would be amplified sound like it was filling the room then shortly after be almost quiet. In a partial dream state it was exactly like this but this was the best way i could describe it then. Like i could see a dot in my head then it would grow to hundreds of dots, then thousands, then shrink back to just a few only they/it was more than dots. I had stopped experiencing this later in my teens but in the past 5 years i've felt it return in multiple ways. I don't think i ever recognized it happening as a relative time experience in that i never connected my moment of accelerated time as part of it before. I just got over an episode of it and this time it was more of a physical touch sensation. My hands seemed as though i would feeling a large semi-smooth surface with both hands while all i was actually doing was scrolling through this forum with one hand on the mouse and the other under a pillow that i'm propped up on. It felt as if my hand were feeling something much larger than my hands could actually hold. I don't know. I've never done drugs, am probably one of the healthiest people I know. My brother used to be a health insurance salesman and he told me the results of the blood test they did on me were better than they had ever seen. I used to consider it a nightmare but not so much anymore. It's a weird sensation but it always passes within 10 mins or so.

Hello everyone
I think I may have some tangible information for some of you. I have never experienced anything like what people have described up until recently (late 20s). However ever since childhood, I was able to self-induce a state of depersonalization by looking at my hands. Those were frightening experiences but rarely lasted more than a minute and I was able to snap out of it everytime except for one time. Anyhow, I recently experimented with ketamine (please for the love of god do not try this stuff) and I was put into an irreversible state of depersonalization. However as the effects were wearing off, I started to experience the sensation of everything appearing to speed up (like when you are viewing a super high framerate video at 120fps) as people are describing there. I did not feel anxious at all at that point. When I tried watching TV, it almost felt like you can see the screen flickering. In any case, I think some people are correct in associating this with a possible subset of symptoms associated with depersonalization. It's also is very likely related to NMDA receptor antagonism. Finally my theory is that our brain filters and smooths neuronal input (vision, sound, touch) normally, but for some reason when this process is disrupted, we start to observe the "raw" data that is being projected to the consciousness which may account for these experiences. |

I had an episode similar to this. But most people who are describing this experience it again and again. I only experienced it once. But with a twist! I was driving to a video game store at 11:30 pm. I was picking up a copy of Halo 3 for my son and I. On the way I was driving along a back road and suddenly felt everything rushing past me. Then I looked down at the console and that seemed to be moving rapidly also! I was really scared but I didn't want to slam on the brakes out of fear of causing an accident. I felt like I was in a warp. I was afraid to act. It passed after a few moments, it felt longer of course. I went to the store and acted as casual as usual. I wasn't sure if anyone else had felt it and I wasn't going to be the first to ask!
[B]Here's where my story differs from others! [B] When I got home I had put the event out of my mind. Alien encounter or stroke, I wasn't going to bring it up. My wife is sitting on the couch. Unusual since it was 12:30 or 12:45 am. What was even more unusual my son, who was 8 at the time was up also. He was crying. I immediately assumed he couldn't wait for me to get home with the new game. When I asked what was wrong my wife told me he had a bad dream. He turned to me and said it wasn't a dream. He was awake. But everything was moving in FAST FORWARD! Now, my son and I have always been close. But how did we both experience the same thing around the same time?! |

Found this while searching for more information on Google as I was having an episode and was wondering if anyone had any more info? The one that sounded most likely to be it was disassociate one, as when it happens I tend to not quite feel like I'm in my body.
Bit more info, currently 19 and first had this happen when I was young and home sick with a fever it most often happens when I'm sick but sometimes it will happen after being in front of a screen for an extended period of time. I'll suddenly feel like everything around me is speeding up but I'm staying the same speed or slowing down, and suddenly my tinnitus will get much louder and everything else will be muffled. I remember the first time it happened I was playing a computer game and suddenly felt like instead of being in my own body I was a spectator viewing myself in 3rd person, much like the game I was playing. Other then that I have adhd and take Adderall for that. Also most likely unrelated however someone online said this might of been caused by a seizure when I was young so if this is epilepsy then maybe it's related; one day as a kid I woke up with absolutely no memory, I didn't know who I was where I was or anything, most stuff slowly came back to me as I got up and started doing things, but it was very weird for a while, I walked through our house and somehow new where to go even though I didn't remember the place, and I remember for maybe a month or so after that I didn't remember how to sleep, for some reason I thought when you closed your eyes you were supposed to hold your breath, so I would lay in bed staring at the ceiling until I would suddenly fall asleep. To this day I still can't remember anything earlier then that day. If anyone has any info about either of these things please email me. Thanks. |

Dear clearhit, you should check out the dissociative disorders forums. There are many wonderful open people here I'm sure you will find! Also if you scroll to the bottom of the forums listing there is a partner site that has a ton of info and forums for neurological related issues.

Oh.....My.......God. I have had the exact same thing you are describing word for word since a very small age and sometimes I will wake up in the middle of the night and it will feel like everything coming closer and then going far away. going in and out repeatedly and my body and my fingers feel like they're big one second and then small the other. It's very weird and annoying at times and I mostly get it when i'm in bed with my quilt or duvet wrapped around my neck.

I am so glad I found this post...I just had an episode and thought, what the heck, I am going to google it, and thought, I am not even sure how to describe it! And I can't imagine I will find anything...
Well, I used to experience these when I was very young around 7-8 years old and was afraid to ask adults about them, for fear that no one would believe me. I too, thought they were some type of power or such... As I got older, they occurred less and less. And in my adult years, I would guess I have only had a handful of episodes. I am now 42. And it no longer scares me as much as when I was a child, because I know it will subside soon. I have never done any type of drugs, and even stopped OTC meds about 5 years ago. I use a lot of essential oils and holistic healing instead of going to the doctor. I have never been diagnosed with any type of mental disorders, and besides psoriasis/eczema I can't complain. I used to have migraines, but recently had braces put on my teeth to fix my TMJ, which has alleviated the migraines completely, so I know it is not associated with headaches. I eat very healthy, no fast food or HFCS and other artificial products, and I am vegan. My last episode that I can remember prior to today was about 3 years ago as I was reading a book before bed. This morning I woke up not feeling 100%, but I attribute that to my husband having the flu for the past 3 days. and I must have caught it. So I took it easy for most of the day and was watching a movie, then I was about to check my email when it started. I searched google instead and found this post....It continued as I read all of these replies and it slowly went away as I approached page 8. I then asked my 11 yo son, (who is a lot like me) if he had ever experienced anything like this and he said yes, whenever he is really tired and tries to go to sleep, everything starts to speed up in his mind. I really hope that someone in the medical community (or someone that has answers) reads these posts. I would sure like to know what it is we are feeling or what is happening. |

I've had the same feeling since I was a child, I get it once or twice a year, stopped before college. The feeling was like things going way too fast for me, but I'm moving too slow. objects were somehow unreachable no matter how hard I reach for them. I tried screaming, but I don't remember what happened.

Hey, I know that I'm a little late, but I'm glad that I found this site. I'm from India, I'm 19 years old. I experienced the same condition" an hour ago. I've been having these feelings since I was little, it was like fast forwarding a movie or something. I can't really describe it, sometimes I hear voices, like echoing inside my head (which I believe comes from my childhood memories) but if I watched a video or listened to some music or talk to someone, it would go away. In the last couple of weeks, I had two or three episodes. only stronger and very difficult to get out of. I did some reading online and saw something about A.I.W.S (Alice in wonderland syndrome) .you could look into that. And i hope this helps. Thank you for listening.
(Ps. I thought I was the only one feeling this way. But now that I know I'm not, I'm happy that I have company. ![]() |

Piling on here. I've experienced the same thing as everyone here. Super happy to find this forum.
I'll note three things, however: 1) As a child, it almost always happened very in the morning (Walking the dog, taking the shower, etc.) 2) There is a feeling that preludes the fast feeling, and I can feel it coming on before I actually "speed up." I can't really describe the feeling, but here's a shot: it is like a bulge in the back of my throat and I can see a ball (or something) in space. The ball is not whole, it is somewhat cracked open. When I feel this I push it back down before I start going fast. 3) There is a book called the Politics of Experience that mentions something eerily similar in the 2nd to last chapter of the book. Its a reference to Jesse Watkins who underwent an inner experience that sounds like the DMT experience AllTheWay mentions a few pages back. Perhaps linked to meditation or breaking off from our ego for a moment. |

I have had random bouts of this from as far back as I can remember too. It is excruciating when it happens...To me it is kinda like a chaotic sped up audio track that I can't slow down, stop, or panicing while trying in vain to figure out how to save a cassette tape that is being eaten...overlapping visual like movie sometimes clear progression of story or sometimes like a,slideshow with paced images that are mixed up or completely random...The sped up audio is not just out of sync w/ the images...they usually do not have any obvious connection but there is always something familiar about it all??!! But can't quite remember why? But try to control and get them on the same speed track and is so frustrating because can never regulate it...and leaves understanding just outta reach.... as far as starting stopping it is like waking up on a amusement ride... I don't know how I got on the ride and it's just starting to move...so just gotta hang on and bear thru...when ever it is over It Just Comes to a stop and the bars release.... I do not know the cause,.. I have accepted it as part of DR/DP...but often wondered if it could be either neurological or sometimes think it may be sleep disorder related?? Idk.

Hello all. First post here. And I joined up just because I found this thread which is the first EVER clue I've ever had that there were others who had this issue too. I've been reading and rereading this thread periodically for several years now!
My case began at the age of about 9 years old IIRC and besides the feeling that everyone including me was running just a little too fast for reality, sounds were just a little bit louder than normal too. There was also a tactile component in that objects felt just a bit heavier than normal and that I was gripping them harder which I knew I really wasn't. An empty cup or other item I would use all the time now felt slightly heavier. If I really concentrated I could tell that mom or whoever weren't really talking faster, their speech and the pitch was unchanged, yet the speech and other sounds in the room were all sped up and a little louder. I think lights were a bit brighter also. I could easily interact and converse with others who would never know what was happening on my end, though things could sometimes get pretty comical from my perspective. After a few years of this happening every couple or few months I realized that each episode lasted the same amount of time. (too bad that wasn't sped up LOL) After I began timing the episodes which all lasted 30 minutes, almost exactly, within about 5 min. From then on when one of these things started instead of dreading it again I would just look at a clock and wait it out. In the end the episodes ended when I was around 14 years old, coincidentally or not right around the same time I began first began smoking pot. I mention this because I have heard of several other health related conditions, like chronic headaches and the like, ending when folks began getting high. Not to mention the plethora of health malady's treated today by weed, hemp oil, etc. I would love to finally and for sure learn what this was. I have always leaned toward a brain lesion, or perhaps epilepsy of some kind. So that's my story, and besides my mother some 40 years ago and my ex wife, you are the first to hear it. If any of this matches up with your experiences, please post up and tell me a little about it. I'd love to hear more. Thanks, Rob. |

Ok, I know that I'm really late on this post. I too have this kind of feeling sometimes. I'm glad to know that I am not alone at this.
I just found this post accidentally when searching about my condition. As I am having this feeling since my childhood(now i am 20) but never tried to find out what it is, because I did not know how to describe this feeling. Toller explained it in a very good manner. It feels like a "WAR" is going on around me. And Yes it fells like size of some large objects are very Small and Some Smaller one a very large. Every feeling explained by people here is happening to me. Whenever it comes, makes me very uncomfortable. Today I had an episode after a very long time. I am not having any medication, neither I had any drugs/alcohol/ Not even a cigarette or Tobacco. |
