Want another ace in the hole? Ask your current boss for a letter of recommendation for any future jobs you may apply for in the same field. It will give you a bit more leverage.

(Fine, fine, here's my two pennies...)

Wow, I must say this has taken me a very long time to post to, because I wasn't quite sure what to say. First off, I am THRILLED you are going home, sooner than anticipated. I know how much you need to do this FOR YOU (and that's me waaaaaaay back in the corner with the pom-poms).

Second, I wish you nothing but happiness and good vibes. Being close to your family will be make the battle with the demon that much easier. My fingers are crossed that you find doctors as wonderful as the ones you have here that have helped you discover the wonderful person you are, always were and always will be.

My best wishes and good luck to you, Ry Man. I'm glad you are finally getting to 'go home'.

Huge Hugz and Much Love,
Jenn

Wow Jenn... that made my eyes leak. You've been such a good friend to me and I can't thank you enough for all of your support. And I hadn't even thought of that letter of recommendation but that's an awesome idea. And since there's a job (same one I do) with the same company in Dallas opening up in a few months, it would very much help me in applying for that job... plus prior company experience and leaving on good terms. It would seem that things are very much lining up for me here.

I'm terrified to tell my boss I'm quitting. Any advise on turning in a resignation? I figure that my boss has always been so wonderful to me so I'm going to give a 30 day notice instead of just 2 weeks. Is that a good idea? Anyone here in management that can offer advise?

Ry

Hi Ry, first before I forget, I love Jenn's idea about getting the letter of recommendation for your future.

I think it's a good idea and very thoughtful of you to offer the 30 days notice, since he's been so wonderful to you. I'm sure he'll really appreciate that kindness

As far as the resignation itself, type up a letter, thank him for the opportunity of working for him, tell him how much you've enjoyed your position there, the invaluable experience that you have obtained that you can take into any future job prospects, that you are sorry that you're leaving such a good working environment that you've enjoyed but that you really want to move back home to Texas to be with your family and friends. Basically, tell him the reasons for your resignation are only because you want to go back to Texas and have nothing to do with your job or the company you are working for. Make a point of telling him how much you love your job, the people, the experience it gave you, the wonderful relationship you have with your boss, you know, butter him up with all the good stuff. Moving to Texas sooner And tell him you're sorry that you'll be leaving such a positive working environment.

Anyway, that's what I'd do. There's really no way to make this easy. It's definitely a situation that can bring on anxiety, you don't have any choice but to just force yourself to go into his office at the appropriate time and just hand him the letter and tell him you wish things were such that you could stay in Detroit and continue working for them, but Texas is calling you home and it is something that you feel is going to really help you to have a happier life, getting back with family and friends that you miss very much. You really just got to force yourself to do it. It's not easy but unfortunately, it's gotta be done. You'll feel a 'huge' sigh of relief after you come out of his office, albeit, the adreneline may still be in high gear for a bit.

Good luck, you'll do fine, you always do. I'm so proud of all the positive changes you are making in your life. I think this is one of the best decisions for you, to move back to Texas. So very, very proud of you!!! Love ya!!!

Fury, I'm great today. I'm writing my resignation letter to my boss tonight and I know what to say but not how to say it. Guess I'll figure that one out tonight after I help Jenn apartment hunt. I've got to turn it in tomorrow.

I think you'll do fine Ryan. You express yourself so well in here. Since you already have a good relationship with your boss/supervisor, I'm sure they'll understand why you need to do this.

Good luck. (((((((((((((Ryan)))))))))))

Thanks for the compliment... it means the world to me. My boss will understand, but I just hate to leave him hanging. I know it's for the best and he will to, but I'm just not one confrontations... and in my imagination, this will be one. Of course it truthfully won't be, but I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill... silly me lol.
