I'm just curious how often you see your psychiatrist when you are really stable, if you are also seeing a therapist for counseling, and the psychiatrist is just for medications?

I'm currently seeing a psychiatric nurse practitioner for both meds & therapy, but thanks to insurance changing, I have to switch to seeing a psychaitrist and a therapist. I'm trying to figure out how often I'd be seeing the psychiatrist to see how much that's going to cost, to see how much the difference is.

I'm pretty stable now, most meds haven't been changing.

Most pdocs will want to see you every 3 to 6 months if you are stable. It depends on what the meds are, etc.

I see my PNP every 2 months. The prescription I take has to be written anew every 30 days and can't be phoned to the pharmacy, so she mails me the interim prescription the month I don't see her. If I need to see her more frequently than every 2 months, I am always welcome to schedule an additional appointment. There have also been times when I needed a different prescription, spoke on the phone to her about what wasn't working, and I stopped by her office to pick up the prescription. She's very flexible. I don't feel the same need to see her regularly as I do with my therapist, but in times when I needed a lot of support, it was great to have her on my roster of support people, and be able to see her if I wanted to. (My PNP is also a licensed therapist.)

I see my primary care provider (she's a physician's assistant) for my meds and I see her every 3 weeks (sometimes two if it's a week we know I'll be having a hard time during) and I see my therapist every week. I was seeing my PCP every 6 weeks but we increased it to 3 weeks and it seems to be what works best for me. And I can call her or email her whenever I need to.

After my initial consultation with my last psychiatrist, the next appointment was two months later; then three months; and now four months.

I see my psychiatrist about every 6 weeks, my psychologist every week, although I may have to drop that to every other week due to money, and my addictions Dr. weekly in group, but privately once a month.

i see my pdoc every 1-2 weeks and my T every 1-2 weeks also.

when i am really stable, i see my pdoc every 3 months, but that hasn't happened for a few years now. but my pdoc also does therapy with me, so that's why i see him more often. otherwise my meds only change rarely, and usually i know when they need changing so i can give him a call and get the ok.

Ok, then it does sound like I'll save a substantial amount of money to switch. I guess it's just time to go. It's sad, but maybe I need a new beginning. I've been with my psych nurse for two years! She's saved my life, we've been through a lot. But to be honest, we're stuck on a few things, so maybe a new perspective will help.

I'm thinking I'll see the psychiatrist maybe every 2-3 months, and see a therapist probably once or twice a month, while I'm stable. Of course more often if I go unstable.

I played with the numbers and it's still a pretty substantial savings, even with the two providers versus one, with my current psych nurse being out-of-network on insurance. She also charges quite a bit more per session than they do, that's why.

In the UK, if you're stable and on medication, usually within every 6 months. Well that's what I have heard in my area anyway.

I don't have a therapist, but considering one. As I've just moved to a new psychiatrist, we still have ad-hoc appointments as we are trying to work out what really works for me. I imagine I'll see her ever 3 months when I'm stable.

Not sure about the T

Well, I am far from stable so I can't answer your question. I can however tell you that my experience is seeing both a Psychiatrist for meds and a Therapist seperately from him. I am lucky to have Medicaid that pays for both, so cost wise, I couldn't tell you that.

Glad to hear that you're stabling out there, I am happy for you and wish you all the luck in the world at staying that way! Btw, if you would like to chat sometime, I have the same disorders you have, also with PTSD. 27/f Maybe we could relate?
