...I have none! I guess I was just nominated to be a moderator at another site, but I have no confidence at all. I'm really excited about doing it and everything, it's just that my lack of confidence is creeping in.

And my lack of confidence affects every area of my life. I think I have nothing to offer, no intelligence, no qualities, etc. Like I want to go back to college but I think I'd never make it because basically I'm too stupid. The same thing with getting a job. I think no one will hire me or even consider me for a job...too stupid to do anything, really.

I have absolutely no confidence in myself that I can accomplish anything, no matter what it is. Being on SSI is the only way I see that I can do anything. I don't think I have any skills at all.

OK. If that's what you need... do it. Going onto SSI is not a permanent feature, if you should find something that you can do... in the future...

(((Lexicon))) I hope you can realize something you can do, and enjoy doing.

Hi Lexicon

I think we have to develop confidence. Doing new things will help that. I'm sure you'll start to gain confidence after moderating for a while.

I think it's great that you're excited about it.

You will be a wonderful moderator. I wish you could see half the qualities I do in yourself. I hope one day you will be able to. Take care and I hope you enjoy your mod job.

Lexicon,
I have not been here very long but I have to say that you come across as a confident person, from where I'm sitting anyway. I think you can do it! Feeling unsure of yourself is very natural. You have been nominated for a reason. That must tell you something.
YOU CAN DO IT!

Hi Lexi,

From what I've seen here, I think you'd do wonderfully as a moderator, and I hope you'll consider giving it a try! I think a lot of folks feel nervous taking on a new task, and feel less confident, as you say...I hope you'll take the plunge and move forward with this opportunity, because I think you'd be good at it. I work as a moderator in some other areas online, and I agreed to that job with some trepidation at first. I didn't know if I was equal to the task either. But now I'm glad I did. I have enjoyed the work a lot and made some wonderful friends over the years. I also think it has actually helped me increase my confidence as I've carried out the job over the years, particularly in one forum. At least for me, it's a decision I'm very glad I made.

Take care,
ErinBear

I agree with everyone, Lex...we have confidence in you! Confidence... I know it's hard to have confidence in yourself for many of us (me included!), but one of the things I think that helps develop confidence is not to knock yourself down when you do make mistakes. Those of us who have low self-esteem, in particular, have a tendency to give up and beat up on ourselves when we try something new and make mistakes. You have to step back, realize everyone makes mistakes, learn from your mistakes, and remember that not everyone picks up things at the same pace. Some of us take a little longer, and that's ok. It doesn't mean you won't be good at something.

You sound alot like me. It's kind of creepy actually. I've said those exact words.

There is one thing that gets me through all that. Without confidence. Just do it!!!.......Just do it.

It's kind of like swimming, you just dive in and get wet, instead of slowly getting into the cold water and dragging it out.

I personally have dived into everything....college, tests, speeches, conversations with strangers.....dumb stuff like that, and I've gained a little bit of confidence. I figure if I survived it I can do it again.

You can do it. Don't let your conscience tell you what to do......just go with the instinct....the unconscience, because that's the smarter part of the brain. It's usually right.

Just do it, and good luck.

You have been such a great support to me here...
I think you would be an amazing moderator.
As far as being on SSI: I was on it for 2-3 years back in the mid 90's. I thought I would be on it forever.
But the more I began to come to terms w/ who I am and what I went through...well...the more determined I was not to be on SSI. I am not working in the field I went to college for but so what. I am now very successful in the field I work in. What I made on SSI in one year is what I get taxed now for the year. SO, I know you can do anything you set your mind to do. You have to be brave. I am not going to say it is easy, it wasn't. Some days I wonder how I even got through those times.
But Lex, You can do whatever it is you want to do...as long as you put your mind to it.
I think you are totally awesome!
