a year and a half ago, i had a near death experience following surgery. for some reason, i reacted badly to the anesthesia, and i had to be resuscitated. during that time, i had a near death experience. i've only told one other person about it, and it's been "heavy on my mind" lately. has anyone else had an nde? does anyone know about them? suggestions for books to read?

I believe in near death experiences, and even find them fascinating. If you would like to talk about yours, I would really love to hear about it. You are welcome to PM me, but if it is too personal to talk about, then I understand that too. The books that I really like on that topic are a series by Lee Nelson, called Beyond The Veil. There are volumes 1-3 and also a fourth book that is more recent and the title is different. These books are written from a religious perspective.

rapunzel--i sent you a pm. are there any others out there who have had this experience. i really feel alone as i don't know anyone who has had a nde, and though i can read books, i'd really like to talk with someone who has had personal experience or knows someone who has.

Hi Texasclown,

I had a big motorcycle accident in 1980 when I was 17. My face was smashed pretty hard (though I had a Fullface mask, I had a severe concussion and they had to rebuild my nose entirely).

I had lost a lot of blood when the ambulance brought me to the Hospital. The doctors told my parents I made it barely.

But I have no recollection of the accident at all.

So, to respond to your question, no, I do not recall having any nde. Or maybe I had one but don't remember it. They were quick to sedate me with morphine.

Take care,

Starbuck

I wonder where it will go from here... But I'll try nonetheless.

I have had one.. and it is a very unique thing to try and describe...

I had one, when I was having a emergency C-section of my frist child. When they were taking my child out, I saw over in the corner of the room my grandfather and his wife and my uncle saying you hve to stay, but all I wanted to do was walk toward the light, the anstaligolgist said no, you have to stay here it is not your time to go.. It was not her face I saw that day, and I will never forget taht day, it is so vivid in my mind..
I had my chance to go "home" and someone told me I had to stay because my time here was not done..

Sorry if this did not help, but i look at what happend to me as a second chance to make a better life for me and what ever God puts before me to do in life, and I have tried my hardest to live up to what is good and true in my life.

books to read..
you might try
http://www.beliefnet.com

eiter of these sites maybe able to give you a list of books on near death experinces and hlep you to understand what you went through and also help you understand waht happend..
The second one is a religous website but it is to me one of the good ones on the web..

there's part of our stories that is the same, lady d. i was called back by my friend who was in the waiting room. she sensed that something was wrong just about the time that i crashed, and she called me back, telling me i still had work to do.

i'll come back and talk more about my experience later. i'm extremely tired. i've had a long night with no sleep.

Hi

When I was 12 my class took a trip swimming. One of the students didn't know how to swim and still entered the deep end. At first we all thought he was clowning around like usual but then we suddenly realized he was drowning. Myself and one other student jumped in to help withjout knowing anything about lifesaving. When we reached him he used us as buoys and I found myself in the position of the drowning one. I panicked and flailed about terrified. The strangest thing happened. Sudden calm came over me in an instant like turning on a light switch, the terror went from me in the snap of a finger. On my third trip under, lungs taking a full inhale of water, the only thought I had was how my cousin had died just this way recently and I was going to meet him. Then I thought of my dad and how sad he'd be.

The teacher finally arrrived and pulled the drowning boy from on top of me, leaving me behind and I struggled to the side and coughed up water.

I'll never forget how such complete terror had changed to complete calm in just one moment like that.

hmmm I have nearly died several times... and have had different, out of body experiences at the time... I am sure one was "it" ...

subsequently I am not afraid of death or of dying... the wonderful energy and freedom from "negative" everything will never be forgotten... probably why I "live" with suicidal ideation? Not afraid of the end, just don't want to hurt on the way.

Very interesting personal story Lady_Dragus.

You're quite right on saying that we all deserve "a second chance to make a better life."

I also feel that way.

Take care

For whatever reason you were granted a unique experience to see things from a differant perspective. It really isn't unique or exceptional, other than in what you personally take away from the experience. Why does the need ton understand the mechanics linger in your mind, and why muddy the waters by the interpretations of others and with the literature of the general public. The answers are already in yourself, and the real question is in what you are doing with your life now.
Have you changed because of the experience.
What are your interpretations and their effects on your life.
