I know this isn't huge, but would y'all think about him tomorrow? For those of you that don't know, I've cared for my four year old nephew since just before his second b'day full time, part time from birth.

I took him to the doctor after a "callous" on his toe fell off, leaving this weird "hole".

They said it was a planter's wart and that it was odd for a child his age to have gotten that virus. It's just the one too. I told him how he'd always had this little slit in his toe there...from birth that I can remember...just like dry skin that's split in the crease of a finger that just won't heal? Yeah, like that. He said that made sense, then, as to why he may have gotten the virus in his toe.

Anyhow, it's on a pressure point. What happens with planter's warts on a pressure point is that it can't grow outside, so it grows inside. Because of that, I wasn't aware that something was up until now, and though it's not huge, it's not small and starting to cause him some tenderness due to it being on a pressure point.

I've been through something else with this. He has state medicaid and the referral that the clinic gave doesn't take it! I looked at their physicians (dermatologists) and they sounded like a shop at the local mall. Thoughts for my boy

I called children's hospital and they're seeing him tomorrow but I had to move heaven and earth almost for that referral and approval. I had to explain that he's just four, it's not small and it should be removed by pediatric specialists.

Anyhow, would y'all keep in your thoughts that it was approved for them to work on him and that it goes well? It's a large area to cut or burn out of a little toe in a place that's hard to keep clean and heal. I doubt they'll do anything tomorrow but look at it and decide what needs to be done. He's seeing the general surgeons there, and they said they'd call in the dermatologist if they felt it necessary because he's not there often and it takes a while to get in.

Thanks!

KD

LOL, jean!

To top it off, the preschool he attends parttime called me today to say he fell on the concrete! I thought I'd get sick for a second until they explained that he just had a scrape. It took everything I had not to go there right then, but he's just now starting to adjust to it.

He's such a bright, beautiful, caring little soul...so happy and carefree (except for the typical monster, ghosts and bug fears). It's a blessing considering.

I'm freaking because really never had many issues other than viruses and high fevers with them. Shoot, he's never even had an antibiotic in his life! We don't even know if he's allergic! LOL.

Thanks, hon.

Thank you so much ((((((((((((( EJ ))))))))))))))

These last couple of days, I've just been too pooped to pop and my week is full with dr. appts, tests, etc.

Tomorrow, however, my boy will be my primary focus.

Don't laugh but there is a non-surgical treatment for plantar's warts that even dermatologists use.

The idea is to smother it. You may find it via a Google search, as I can't remember the exact schedule...Cover the wart with duct tape (I said don't laugh!). The duct tape is left on for an amount of time (days?) the removed for a while, then replaced again.

It works. I've done it. Silly but true. Thoughts for my boy

Interesting cure Echoes!

KD, I hope you and your little man can have quality time together as well as dealing with the docs etc. I'm sure after all the adjusting he's had to do with school this will mean a lot to him to have his "me" time with you!

(((((((((((((KD and family)))))))))) Raw apple cider vinegar also works, used as... ugh, so tired, can't think what it's called. But wet a cloth with it and put it on the wart. You can put a plastic bag over it to keep it from dripping all over and put a sock on over it. Keep it on for 15-30 min a couple times a day... but it takes a while as natural stuff does and with him being so young, he might not keep it on... Anyway, Wishing you all the best. Thanks (((((((((( everyone ))))))))))))))

The doctor said that regular methods aren't going to work with this because it's grown so deeply inside before I knew something weird was going on. Thoughts for my boy Like I said, he always had this "place" there and I thought a callous had finally formed to protect. Me dummy. Thoughts for my boy

I hope I go and they say to do something like above! That would be great!

Love yas!

Hi Grandma Kimmy Dawn Thoughts for my boy

Your nephew doesn't need to see a dermatologist, he needs to go to a podiatrist.

KD...I hope the little fella's toe is healing soon!
I've had a Plantar's wart and it was painful and very hard to get rid of till the doc put radiation on it to kill it! They grow deep into the foot or toe and are painful...I know! I hope he is rid of it soon! Your little man sounds very sweet and such a blessing!
Love,
Patty

He has to have surgery.

It's scheduled for July 5th at 9:45 a.m. We have to be there at 7:45 a.m. and they said they'll give him his own room with a nintendo, t.v. and toys. Then they'll give him some "happy juice" to make him relaxed and silly and he'll pick out the flavor for the anesthesia. He's never even had an antibiotic before. His having anesthesia makes me very nervous, but I'm sure he'll be fine.

The dr. said it's large in there and the best chance for healing is to make an incision. Trying to burn it out or whatever would leave way too big a hole that wouldn't heal properly. He's worried about the healing due to where it's at and said stitches might not even stay in it but it's the best route to go. Of course the worry too is leaving it or it not healing probably could affect the way he walks, etc.

He said I made the best call taking him to Children's because a dermatologist or adult care place would've hurt him and probably left a bad area there. He said, "Yeah, they say kids are tough and can handle it...Why should they be forced to just because they have small voices???" MY KIND OF DOCTOR!!!! I'm just so glad I took him there and he said I absolutely did the right thing for him and his healing.

You can tell he loves children. He walked into the office and made buddies with him straight away. David knew he was liked immediately and asked questions, etc. The doctor then let him hold his real stethascope (sp?) so he could talk to mom. Just a class act...truly.

So, he's having a small little surgery and an amazing doctor to perform it and his progress. Thoughts for my boy

Thank you everyone!

KD

Sounds like you have this all under control. I know it's so hard and you worry about your sweety having difficulties with the anesthesia and surgery, but it sounds like you have an absolute angel for a doctor. That is so awesome!

KD,

You're by no means a dummy! I wonder why we feel that way. Nobody knows everything -- even the doctors don't. Thoughts for my boy
