dad and nephew

thanks hon. I am trying not to stress but we all know how that goes. trying though

gtrplayer is right bebop. hold on to the hope as hard as you can. try to take some time to be gentle with yourself and to cry when you need to. there are so many people here sending positive thoughts out for your nephew.

biiv thank you and it is much appreciated. I was able to speak with my nephew for a couple of minutes today. he is so afraid. they are putting him in another hospital today. his burns need attention and they need to check his organs for damage. he is going to lose the thumb. I am a wreck with worry not being able to be there. it is always harder to sit home not knowing what is going on than being there...thanks again for the thoughts and prayers.

im sorry he has to lose his thumb. i cant imagine how afraid you must all be. i hope your family are being supportive of each other through this?

thanks hon. the surgery is sometime tomorrow. that is all I know of right now. hoping my brother will call me tonight for an update.

Please be sure and take care of yourself bebop. I know it's easy to spend all your time thinking about and helping family, and how being absorbed in another's problems can take our mind off our own, or make ours feel small at times, but you must continue to do good self care. You're worth it.

I wish I knew how to do that hon. always been the caregiver. one day my turn will come I hope.

got news about dad's biopsy today though. one dr won't let him come off the aspirin to do it til he has a stress test. well seems they can't get him in until november!!!!! what?????? he can't wait that long! errrrrrrrr the urologist will not do the biopsy with the aspirin!

How long does he need to be off the aspirin to do the biopsy?
I have a second opinion on the stress tests anyway... how about you get one for your dad? Doesn't the urologist have a suggestion? (I think the biopsy is most important, isn't it? And I guess the urologist is afraid of his blood being thinned by the aspirin. Like a stress test will change that? No.)

the cardio found something a couple of months ago with his heart again. dad refused more treatment of it so now we wait again. yes the biopsy is really important right now. we are hoping the uro can get the cardio to see him sooner now. but yes the aspirin thins the blood and he is on plavix and can come off that but not both. *sigh*

I am sorry to hear about your nephew. I hope that all the tests come out ok. It's sad that he ends up having to loose the thumb, hopefully the other issues will be ok.....he has my prayers.

For your Dad, I know how frustrating it is to have so many things working against a time critical thing like the biopsy. Blood thinners like asprin can cause even worse problems with a surgery however....hope they can get that straightened out soon if not sooner.

My prayers are with you too......there are times when we have to realize that we aren't the caregiver......we can care, but we can't do anything about it, so we just have to come to terms & let go of that frustration.....we can't make ourselves sick over something we have no control over...

thanks Debbie. I know you are right. I just don't know how to let it go. I have always been there for everyone and not take care of me. I really struggle with that.

Hi Bebop, I hope everything goes ok for you father and nephew and you. I know someone who lost their thumb and had their big toe transplanted to their hand and it actually worked out very well and he was able to go back to work in a physical type of a job.

heyjoe thanks hon. they were able to save part of the thumb today! woo hoo!!!!! I am so excited about that and I know my nephew is too! he was so scared when I talked to him on Tuesday. I am glad this part is over.

they now have him in the burn unit which is where he should have been to begin with!

thats great news about your nephew bebop. however id be really mad about having to wait until november for your dads biopsy! thats completely nuts. i really hope the doctors can cop themselves on and get him seen quicker than that.
you ve had good advice in other replys about remembering to prioritise your own health though. keep reminding yourself that you are more use to your dad and nephew when you are healthy yourself ok? you need to look after you first!
