Just received a call from a financial institution trying to verify that I'd applied on-line for a credit card. I hadn't. My wallet was stolen over the summer with all my ID, including my SIN number. Now someone's trying to use it. And of course the credit reporting agencies are closed for the weekend.
So just a warning - if you do loose your ID make sure you report it to the credit bureaus so a flag can be put on your file. A very unhappy Splitimage |

How frustrating and annoying for you. Not least is having to get all new documents/papers/numbers, etc. Lots of work. I had a major credit card stolen online and used online last year and it was one I used to pay for almost all my "usual" online purchasing so that was a pain having to change the number everywhere when I got the new card. My credit card company is good though and so their part of the cancel old card/receive new problem was easy enough. The idiots used it for an online dating service and tomorrow is my 18th wedding anniversay :-) I don't think I was doing much dating, online or elsewhere.

After dealing with catching the home care person on the phone applying for a credit care with my Mothers ID, I am very sensitive to identity theft....& the threats that can come with it.
However, the internet is so impersonal....I got an email the other day, saying that my chase account had been accessed overseas.......well, I haven't been overseas....& not only that, I don't have a chase account (except for my new truck loan)....& it went to my husband's email account anyway. We actually had a strang thing happen while back in Kentucky.....we had our credit card number used in saude arabia to purchase an airline ticket....guess they got the number off the internet from Frontier Air Lines....the only place it was used. The stupid thing was that we caught it before the charge actually went through....& the credit union wouldn't stop it.....they let it go through anyway & then later refunded us the money. That was the lamest way of handling credit card fraud I have ever heard of...just let it go & pay for the loss anyway....no wonder the interest rates are so high.....those that pay interest are paying for the thefts. I agree with your GRRR....& GRRRRRRRR again, Debbie

My daughter had an interesting thing happen to her. She went to use her debit card and it was declined. She checked her checkbook, and there should have been planty of money for this relatively small purchase, but no. She checked her account online and found that somebody had been shopping two or three times a day at a specific coffee house in Barcelona, Spain. This was going on for about three weeks. The bank refunded her the amount that was missing from the account, and closed the account, opening another to replace it. We have no idea how someone got her account number.
