There is nothing I enjoy about college. I hate my classes, I can't find a major, I can't pay for class, I can't motivate myself to do any homework, and the month I had off for break was TOLERABLE!! That's so much more than I can say for when class is in session. Someone tell me if this is worth pursuing! Not that I have a choice in the matter, I think my family would disown me if I don't get my degree, and I already have pulled out money for a loan to pay for school. I don't know what to do!

If you are that unhappy at school and you aren't doing well at it because you aren't wanting to be there then seems to me that its a waste of time and money. maybe you could talk to your family and explain to them how you feel. I went back to college a few years ago for one semester and couldn't afford to go back. I hope to go back after my fathers murder Trial this spring, maybe in the fall.
Good luck in whatever you decide

Hi Kayleigh, I have to agree with MissTonya. Are you away at college? Maybe that's not good for you. Perhaps you can move back home or near home, get a job and then maybe when you feel better take some local community college classes. And if not, that's ok too. College is not for everyone.

So sorry you are feeling so frustrated!!! (((kay))) College should be for what YOU get out of it, not what others want! And it's perfectly ok to delay going, or not go at all!
What would you like to be doing? Is there some other way to get there than college? Part of the advantage of being an adult is being allowed to make your own choices. PS school loans get repaid anyway. You are not the first to take the loan and change your mind! ![]()

hey hun *hugs* I'm sorry you're not happy. What year are you? I am a senior with one more year left. It took me quite a while to figure out what I wanted to do so I'm on the "five year plan" If you are 2 or more years into it I'd say keep on trucking and prove that you can finish what you've started! If money is an issue there are places that you can apply for scholarships and you don't have to pay for those! my best friend gets 80% of her funding for her 30,0000 a year tuition from scholarships. Scholarships are free money and you don't need to pay those back. I really hope you'll stick with it but that's my opinion! I wish you the best in whichever you choose *hugs*

KAYLEIGH: Can you save your GPA by getting tutoring and staying until the end of the school year to bring your grades up to C's? Some campuses offer free tutoring.
Then you could leave school for a while, knowing your GPA is good enough that you could return later if you like. It would be nice to keep that option open. I detested math until I took one jr. college math course and really liked it, because the instructor really worked hard to help us learn. Anyway, a tutor is necessary for some people. I needed to hold pictures of the triangles in my head, pictures I could UNDERSTAND. As soon as I was able to create those pictures, and associate formulas with them, I was okay. If you did geometry, you can do trig. That's a given. So, please don't believe you CAN'T do something before you have given yourself a decent chance to do it. I agree that college is not for everyone. However, you may only hate it right now because it's not working for you. Maybe some really good tutors could help you change that. Then you would have more self-confidence and be in a better position to decide if you want to stay in school or not. We're here for you, whatever you decide. Adieu |

My grades are okay, I'm not really at any risk of being kicked out b/c of grades. You start to get in trouble when you drop below a 2.0 GPA and I currently have a 2.73. I just see very little point in school. Even if I could just find a way to know what I'm good at.... something I can actually major in, that'd be a help. Those intrest survey quiz things are total crap. I don't really think I'm smart enough to be here, and I can't find an enjoyable subject... I'm still a freshman... so I have forever to go... and since I don't have a declared major I don't know what classes I'm supposed to take... and who knows how many classes I'm taking now won't be able to count toward my GECs. I'm afraid, also that if I leave my boyfriend and I will drift apart... and I don't think I could take that (I know I'm not a very good g/f ... but that doesn't mean I'd miss him any less) and I'm really shy, and have no work experience. (what a bright future I have.... not)

Hi Kayleigh. I have a couple of questions for you. If you're not going to school, what would you be doing? What kind of a job would you like to have? Maybe answering those questions would help you decide what major to go into.
If you're having trouble affording tuition, how about working part-time? As for not being smart enough - NO WAY! How do you know you're not smart enough? Maybe it's the way you're studying, the lack of motivation, something... but not smart - NO WAY! (again). So you know, I didn't even finish high school because my student counsellor told me I was 'hopeless' (her word) and refused to enroll me into one more course to graduate. However, somehow I managed to get a degree (specialized honours) which was not easy, and my main motivation was that I had to prove to that counsellor and my family that I was NOT HOPELESS. Oh yeah, I paid my way through school by working. It's strange how parents want their kids to get a degree and yet, don't help pay for it.... Kayleigh, you CAN do it. Now, if you really don't want to go to college, then it's your choice. For me, I want to have something to fall back on. |

Kayleigh, School is, of course, your choice. I wonder if what you are feeling is more than not wanting to be at school.
I wonder if you have met your advisor? If not check it out. It sounds like you are seeking that subject, goal, career, whatever, that you can feel passionate about. Keep looking and maybe are there some college clubs you could get involved in? Many schools have a large variety and this helps students to feel more connected. Also do they have a counseling center? Maybe this would help. Don't worry about the classes you are taking not mattering in the future. No education is a waste. And as for that "major" desicion, I flipped-flopped majors and minors for 2 years and ended up dropping the minor and graduating a semester early. As you take classes you will, I hope run into professors that create a passion in you for a subject. Your gen-eds will probably not do this. Also, Do not worry about being smart enough. Many freshmen do not carry 2.73 GPA. Many end up taking classes over. You could consider transfering to a smaller school if yours is large. It is sometimes cool to be a big fish in a small pond. If the relationship is meant to be it will survive anything. You have to do what is right for you. If you need to quit school then you must, but do not give up on yourself. You are too important. Sorry for writing a novel. Hope you find an answer. take care. place

I'm getting that you are depressed at your school. I had severe depression in sophomore and junior years of college. Looking back, taking a break might have been good. I wish I had taken a break and sought a good psychiatrist. People go to college at all ages now, so it doesn't have to be something you do at 18. I'm speaking as someone who didn't have much work experience when she graduated college. I wish I had tried a few more jobs during a break and then gone back. It can save you making a decision before you are ready.
