Well the Bella sage continues...... a few threads ago I wrote about Bella eating a muffin paper and she ate one again a few days ago. Today my daughter thought she was in her crate and accidentally left a plum pit on the coffee table.

A few months ago, she had surgery to remove bladder stones and now is on a special kibble and isn't supposed to have people food treats. Since she's used to being spoiled, she's having quite the adjustment and acts like a desperado ... waiting anxiously for our food.

So I'm wondering what will happen:

1. Will it stay in her stomach .... have to have it surgically removed?
2. Will she throw it up?
3. Will she poop it out?

I'm hoping she crunched it into pieces, then swallowed it. Last week on a walk she found a bone from someone's garbage and she wouldn't surrender it. The next morning she threw up and I could feel pieces of bone in it.... yuck.

She's even resorted to stealing food from the kitchen table. If there's any food to close to the edge, she does this vertical jump a couple times. When she sees where the food is, she jumps one last time and lunges her head forward, stealing the food and making a run for it lol.

Guess she figures if you are not going to bestow her with her usual treats, she will get 'em on her own! The pit is going to come out one end or the other. Not toxic. My sister's dog ate a pit and called the vet. No big deal he said. Sending Bella a cyber sock!
Thanks for this!

They sure can be clever some times in getting a hold of things. I would call the vet for any suggestions. I know when my Beagle got a hold of a large drumstick bone, the vet recommended castor oil to help ease it through her system. It worked, no signs of perforation and came out fine. I don't remember how much he said to give her though.

LOL Nucking Futz regarding the cyber sock. I also can't believe I made the spelling mistake of typing 'sage' instead of 'saga' lol - I reread it twice and didn't see the mistake. Bella is a very funny and smart dog - if there's any food left on plate and it's on the counter, she barks at it hoping to get some.

lynn, i'd take bella to the vet right away or at least call them. plum and peach pits can cause obstruction of the digestive tract. foods you should not feed your dog

How about getting a water-spray bottle or something, and keeping it at the table? That worked with my kitties when they were young.

Umm... it should come out the other end Lynn.

I had a dog a few years ago that loved to eat socks, took it to the vet and it pooped the sock out in the vets room! Then the vet said, "Aha! That's the problem!" and then charged me loads of money! Seriously embarrassing!

Just keep an eye on her, if she starts being sick or can't poop take her to the vet. Good luck!

LOL - that's a funny story Pegasus - pooping a sock, isn't something you hear everyday. So far Bella is doing good - eating and pooping. I'm hoping if it goes down her throat okay, it will come out okay. Thanks for the laugh

Hi Lynn

Our dog ate some pebbles once - they were near the grill outside, and my husband spilled some steak juices on them. Fortunately they were only a few and they were smooth/round, but they were lodged.

Our vet told us to add some Cheerios to her diet to help her pass them through. We had to sift through poop for the longest time before we struck gold.

If it becomes lodged in her stomach, she might begin to exhibit a lack of appetite/vomiting.

I hope Bella will be able to pass the pit okay. I'd be tempted to plant that pit and name the plum tree "Bella."
Thanks for this!

Thanks for asking NF - I asked my next door neighbor, who's her vet. She said as long as she's eating and pooping fine, then I shouldn't worry. Luckily it was a small plum so I think she'll be okay. I always use a bag to pick her pooh out of respect for the neighbors, so I'll still keep looking for a couple more days. When she was younger, I found little beads, tiny elastics in her poop - that's her only downfall, is eating things she's not supposed to. Most of the time if we see her with something, she'll listen to the command 'drop it' - but sometimes we don't see her.

I'm sure it will come out the other end with no probs.
I also have a dog that seems to think that he can eat anything but it's a breed trait, the other two I had were exactly the same (English Bull Terriers). Since eating a plastic father xmas toy 2 xmases ago and having to have a big op to remove his feet (the father xmas not the dog!) I have muzzled him when I'm not around or not able to keep an eye on him (it is a specially made muzzle that allows other dogs to see his expressions etc and he can drink well with it (cheeky little man has also worked out how to eat small pieces of food through it!). Luckily it seems that he is growing out of the chew and swallow and just seems to settle for killing things (his last football lasted 30secs before he managed to put a hole in it!) I still don't trust him completely though.
I ought to make a list of the random things the three of them have managed to eat between them!
Hope Bella is ok, enjoy poo watch!

Thanks Splitz for the funny story about father Xmas and the feet - too bad he had to have surgery. That must have cost a pretty penny.

I swear I could write a book on Bella. Yesterday my daughter had a package of Twizzler black licorice on the kitchen table. I called my daughter to look at something I had on my computer. So we're looking and I hear a plastic bag crinkling. I thought she was getting in the chip bag. You're probably thinking - are these the snacks she feeds her kids?? lol

So I told my daughter to run to the kitchen. She devoured I bet, 10-15 licorice strips. I know that licorice(genuine stuff) isn't good for people with high blood pressure. My daughter looked it up while I called the vet. Luckily its not one of the deadly foods, but in that large amount they said she would get diarrhea. So I'm thinking, God works in mysterious ways sometimes - my logic is - diarrhea would make the plum pit come out easier. Today she was pooping black lol. I couldn't believe how fast she ate them.

Well...I guess a good indication of the pit not passing would be some twigs coming out her ears?..lol.
I think Bella will be fine.

I could go on all day about what Mango, (now dubbed as the Manic) does on a daily basis...She's too intelligent for her own good.
Dang...they're due for their spay August 1st already....Holy, time flies. Seems like I just brought them home only last month.

Yes I'm definitely not worried about the plum pit, after the feasting on the licorice. She's been pooping black for 2 days now lol and I'm sure this eased the plum pit out.

When I was still living at home, we had this part doberman dog who didn't like people who came over. So we put her in a bedroom for about an hour. When we opened the door, she tore about a wicker basket with silk flowers and there wasn't much left on the floor. She also dug a hole in the mattress and a spring was actually popping out. This was also the same dog who I mentioned in other threads, who once ate the cat pooh from the kitty litter and then threw it up. I was the only one home and had to clean it up.

Maybe since Bella seems fine now, we can keep this thread open with funny pet stories.

Hi Lynn - I'm glad Bella is okay. If a plum tree grows in or around your yard, you'll know the culprit - especially if the flavor of the fruit has a slight hint of licorice.

I had a German Shepherd prior to my current dog. When she was a puppy, we locked her up in the kitchen when we were gone, thinking she'd stay out of trouble. I folded up a comforter for her to use as a bed.

I came home from work and opened the door to the kitchen. My puppy lifted her head, one ear still flopping over, and gave me a look of sheer joy - as if to say "I'm having SOOOOO MUCH FUN!"

She had discovered the "lazy susan" and played with a box of Raisin Bran cereal - spreading it all over the floor and comforter. She then discovered a box of cocoa and played with that - same thing. She then discovered a six-pack of beer in the pantry and started playing with the cans, puncturing them. She had a can in her mouth when I came home.

My puppy, my comforter, and my floor were completely coated in Raisin Bran flakes, cocoa, and beer. She was having such a good time, I didn't have the heart to scold her - all I could do was laugh. What a mess, lol. She didn't appear to have ingested anything. She was an amazing dog and very easy to train.
Thanks for this!

When I was a kid, many people used to use tinsil on their Xmas trees. For those who don't know or remember, tinsil is a thin strip of foil and you drape it on your tree. The cat thought it was grass and ate some - I think this is why they stopped producing this. Even though we deliberately put it up higher, she still managed to get some.

A few days later, she came out of her kitty litter and started running like crazy. Upon closer inspection, I see a piece of poop, trailing on the end of tinsil. Her strategy was - trying to run away from it lol. After running for several minutes, it was still there. I saw no other choice but to pull it with a napkin - when I pulled there was still more to come and the cat let out a big meow - not amused at all.

Ah man, it had to be less than 2 months ago. I was a mess cause of Pebbles, the Aussie Lab puppy. I was cleaning up my room and doing some laundry. I dumped a pair of jeans on the floor and a quarter came rolling out of the pocket. Long behold, Pebbles saw it, ran over, grabbed it with her front teeth and ran up the stairs. I was screaming " Drop it" as I went up the stairs and by the time I got to where she was, the quarter was gone. I didn't know if she ate it or hid it somewhere. I called the vet and they said bring her in to do and x-ray that would run about $200. I didn't have the cash but I remembered when my husky ate ant traps. That vet said to mix hydrogen peroxide and salt together and pore it down her throat. I was running around the house looking for peroxide. I finally found a bottle, pored some salt into it , and pored it down her throat. For those who don't know this but hydrogen peroxide causes vomiting and diarrhea, so that's why you add salt is to help maintain electrolyte levels. She got sick and sick and sick and guess what? No quarter. I checked poop and no quarter. I searched the house and no quarter. To this day, I don't know what she did with that quarter.

Wonder What Will Happen: Bella Ate A Plum Pit.This is Pebbles, no not a super dog who sees threw walls with those eyes. It's just cause of the flash.
Thanks for this!

Thanks for sharing your story Living Miracle. I'm glad your Pebbles was okay.

When I was a kid we had this outdoor persian cat. He was a great hunter.....birds, rabbits and mice. My bedroom was on the main floor and when he caught something he would come and sit on the window sill, doing this muffled meow. He wanted praise and often the animal would still be alive. So one day he brought home a mouse and he was on the front lawn. I was standing there to see what he had and he dropped it, but the mouse got away. I felt sorry he lost it, so I was sweeping the grass with my foot and all of a sudden I felt the mouse crawl up the inside leg of my pants. There I was, on the front lawn doing the 'one legged shake, hopping around like crazy, trying to get this mouse out of my pants lol.
