I was just wondering if this would be considered a Personality Disorders thing?

Due to reasons I will not go into right now - I hate the name BETTY....... I cannot stand to hear it or see it and when it does happen I am pushed into a depressed anger mold that sucks the very life from ME - sadness becomes my only friend for a while.

LoVe,
Rhapsody - Is this a PD thing? Is this a PD thing? Is this a PD thing?

I would need to know more about any insights that you have about why you hate that name. There are other possibilities besides personality disorders. Actually, I can't think of a personality disorder that it would be a likely symptom of, but then it really depends on why you feel that way, how it affects your life, etc.

It's a label. . . just change the name.

For me, FAMILY does the same.

I don't think it's a disorder to hate something; we're likely to have strong likes, dislikes, and love/hate certain things and may not know/remember why -- there's nothing "wrong" with that, I don't think. And there's no law that says we have to analyze it either if we don't care to know why we have a strong feeling about something, even if it's only a name. We're born/have built-in strong likes and dislikes! So? Every seen "Funniest Home Video" when they feed the baby something "nasty" like liver and the face she makes? :-)

A thing it might be... depending on your reasons for not liking the name-- it could also be a part of PTSD-- if there was trauma involved.

When I was 6 years old, I had 5 long months of bad experiences with a male and would get anxiety even years later when hearing that name.... to this day I don't like it..... I struggle even mentioning the name if someone else has it. Is this a PD thing? Is this a PD thing?

As I stated in my first post - I have reasons for hating this name that I did not wish to go into - but in reality the NAME brings me much sadness and resentment when heard, spoken or seen (and) YES I know the reason why and YES it is the name of a real person from my past that has much EMOTIONAL PAIN / INNER WOUNDS attached to it.

I never really placed this issue into the PTSD - don't know why (even though I do suffer from ptsd) - and then after reading a few post here in this thread I started to wonder if the problem might have evolved into a PD?

Personality disorders and PTSD have quite a bit in common. Both are pretty long-term and both involve pervasive patterns that affect many aspects of daily life.

You certainly don't have to get into any more here than you are comfortable with. It's good that you understand where your feelings are coming from. I think that's a big difference between PTSD and personality disorders. While I think that personality disorders are also a reaction to trauma, there may not be a clear, specific source of the trauma. PTSD seems to have a clearer beginning, with more insight into the cause of the symptoms. PTSD seems to be more specific, where personality disorders are very generalized. So, where there is a specific name that bothers you, and you know why, I am more inclined to think that it is PTSD-related.
