I don't understand what ur asking. voluntary is just that u go in the hospital or what not bc u need or want to; whereas involuntary is not by your choice. And the other part do u mean seclusion? I have been put in seclusion before; not to scare u but it is not fun especially if u are paranoid or anxious.

"Sectioned" is, I assume, a British term. I don't think it is well understood in the U.S.

volountary - status is volountary (in theory) you can leave if you want.
sectioned - sectioned for compulsory assessement and / or treatment under the mental health act. if you want to leave... you need to appeal that in court.

not everyone has been to hospital for BPD.

but not only that...

people don't go to hospital for BPD / schizophrenia etc.
people go to hospital typically because they are a danger to themself and / or others and they figure a little time to stabilize them on medications (most typically) will benefit them.

it is controversial whether an inpatient environment is helpful or harmful for people with BPD.

PS.. I didn't vote because I"ve been both sectioned and volountarily admitted but the poll will only allow me to choose one...

I voted for voluntary because that has been what most of my many visits to the hospital were but there was one visit my parents committed me. They went to the judge and said that they feared I would be a hazard to myself I was able to leave the hospital on my own and the judge agreed so was committed to the hospital for first a 7 day hold and then a 45 day hold. I wasn't there the complete 45 days though.

Hmmm, well I'm not sure which one to click really, because they said I could go voluntarily or they good force me.
They said I would more than likely be out quicker if I was voluntary, so I went with that, but really I didn't want to.

Actually if you go into the hospital voluntarily you can't just leave whenever you want to. You have signed yourself into THEIR care, and it is THEIR decision as to whether or not you are ready to leave. What will usually happen is that the unit will call in a CDMHP who will do an eval and then that person will make the decision as to whether or not you get detained for further tx or you're free to leave.

Okiedokie is right. Even though I volunteered 5 times, I was not able to leave right when I wanted to. Usually the first day I get there I want to sign myself out but the doctor will talk and say he does not feel ready to let me go just yet. I usually take his advice, but while i was in there, there were a few who still wanted to leave and the doctor ordered, a court order and changed it from voluntary to involuntary, and they had to do the who court thing.in order to get out.

I have been in the hospital Voluntarily 5 times in the past 4 years. I admitted myself 2 times for attempted suicide under the hospitals recommendations. One time I went in because I wanted help (that didn't work) and the last two times I truly feared for my life ( I am chronically suicidal) I actually just got out of the hospital a week ago. (last Friday) I hate going there, I feel so ashamed to keep going back, when I mentioned this to the doctor, he said I did the right thing and to never be embarrassed, "because at least you are still alive."

I have been sectioned because of my BPD. Actually pretty recently. I was there for an initial 3 days then again for another 14 days. In the hospital I was in there were alot of people there with BPD and it was pretty bad. I think people with BPD account for 20% of hospital admisiions so it is pretty common.

I have been hospitalized multiple times for my BPD, usually when I am feeling suicidal. I have not had the best experience lately, because my hospital has mostly detox patients. The staff are so busy dealing with these difficult patients that they can't help me with my issues.

I have had good experiences in the past, but that is usually because I was open to receiving their help. I find the more open I am with the staff, the better the help I get.
