I broke my silence for the first time ever this past Monday night. Sine then, I have been having the most god awful nightmares.

Last night, I dreamt I saw my T and then later on, was assaulted by a man from my past. He assauted and choked me till I couldn't breathe. Again, later on, after seeing T again, I was chased by my mother and her friend and held down while water was forced into my throat with a hose. I woke up soaked in my own sweat and gagging.

I hate this.

(((((((huggs))))))) How did it go when you talked? Did you receive support? There's a saying . . . "you're only as sick as your secrets." You have made big steps forward in the healing process by opening up.

Before going to sleep, tell yourself to wake up if you dream something unpleasant. Do breathing exercises, relax muscles, and mediatate on happy things before you allow yourself to drift off to sleep. These things can be beneficial if you practice this regularly.

Try not to relive the sleep terrors. Tell yourself they were dreams and you are safe now.

i agree. you're going to have to do ALOT of self-talk right now...reminders of today...go over what's in the room and where it came from, etc. this is so hard. i know that. are you staying close to t right now? are you keeping a journal or can you not do that right now?

sending you peaceful wishes...

I used to get them often, now at least I have some nights without, I manage to get some undisturbed sleep.

If you haven't already, might want to mention this to your pdoc and any other helper folks, there are some meds that help some folks with night terrors and nightmares. Periactin for instance helps lessen the severity for some people, for instance.

Best wishes,
Sarah

((((gracey))))) yes sleep terrors are horrible!!!!! Healing is tough... and I think that your brain is refiling those horrible memories you are now remembering... that your T is "around" in your nightmares is good... your link to a firm and stable caring source. With that said, if the night terrors continue, consider something to help you sleep, as ongoing poor sleep and constant terrorization hinders progress.

Take care of yourself. Try grounding/centering techniques as soon as you realize you've had a night mare... put something by the side of your bed, make a light easy to turn on to help you... no one who hasn't had these can possibly understand the intense reality of these things...

Sleep Terrors take care of yourself!!!!
