This afternoon I met someone from my past. We started to talk and right away he came on the subjet that is still so raw in me. I just replied a few of his questions and then I changed the subjet.
This person is not my abuser but he know him. Since I talked to this person this afternoon I can't block my past. I keep thinking about it. Flashback after flashback. I can feel it in every part of my body. I see it dancing in front of me. I taste it. I smell it. I hear it. I'm shaking inside. I can't block it. I hate this. |

Im sorry.My therapist gave me an idea when that happens to me. I put it in a picture or word then I put it in this box that has her card glued on the front. Once its there when I have the flashback I just say its in the box and it helps block the feelings. I give her the box on thursdays. She also wrote me that its not happening now stuff like that. If u want I could write all the things she wrote. I just got through a tough period so I understand.

oh hon i'm so sorry. it heps me to get the feelings and panic out by writing ... or relax, put yourself in a place in your mind you love, somewhere you have visited, or you enjoyed, and breathe slowly. i'm a bit the same today after the worst nightmare for months ... just keep picturing it, but i'm trying to stay busy. i know how you feel, its horrible to go through this. whenever i get really emotional or bothered and i cant handle it or my T is not available, i usually write or draw. it helps alot. just find something that really helps u. it'll help alot. best of luck

Don't say you can't (I know how you feel though, ok? But begin by not using such finality in words. You will begin to be able to not only block some, but prevent them too, in the future.. .it begins with word usage?) You will block in the future. Sorry you were triggered. Make it work for your own good (this remembrance.) Tell yourself (your brain) that was then, and it isn't now. That was then, this is now and you're ok. ![]()

Thank you also for the suggestions on how to deal with this. I still have flashbacks but I'm trying to cope. |

You are coping just fine.
![]() I know from experience that flashbacks can really suck. But I remind myself that I'm not bad for having them, that I am safe here and now, and that I've come through this before. Also helps me to use some sort of visualization like putting the challenges mentally into a safe container. Remembering that I've survived flashbacks before, that I'm learning new self help skills, and that this too shall pass all helps me immensely. Best wishes to you. ![]()

Thank you CedarS. But I have one big problem. My abuser is not far from me. I do try to cope though and most of the time I manage. Again thank you all. |
