I take 45ml of Remeron. I want to cut this down to 30ml but am afraid if I need to go back up the 45ml dose will have lost its effects? Does this happen with medications? 45ml is blunting my emotions.

hi mouse, interesting to note, my doc is thinking of putting me on this specific drug. If you taper down, this may work, but I don't have experience with this particular drug. I have gradually lessened on others to be at a more desirable dose for sleep. I had one or two restless nights so I tried to implement this on a weekend or a time I knew I didn't have to sleep well.

Remeron is known to have different sorts of effects at different doses. More sedating at one end, more stimulating at the toher, etc. What was 30mg like when you were titrating up on it? Was it working? Did you have the same sort of emotional blunting?
Honestly, I've heard that the higher doses are better for avoiding blunting and sedation. You might talk to your doctor about your options.

I took 60 mg Remeron daily for almost two years. I thought it was great. At 15 mg it is supposed to have the sedating effect, but that never happened with me. I'm the odd one, I know. It's not until you get past 30 mg that it starts impacting your norepinephrine more so than serotonin. Plus it works great on your histamine levels.....not as many times that you get a stuffy nose! Lol. I found 60 mg to be perfect for me. I used to explain it like this: On one side of the bridge is suicidal thought, and on the other side of the bridge is suicidal action. Well, the Remeron broke off the centre portion of the bridge and I could not join the two together. I called it my anti-suicide drug!
Bad news: Massive weight gain. That is why I had to quit it after 2 years. It's a pretty well known fact that Remeron slows your metabolism down to a snail's pace. But other than that.....GREAT medication. God bless, Sandy
