I have used ambien or Ambien CR for insomnia for about six months now. Up until this week, it has worked immediately and before I went to bed, I would have these nice feeling, like a brain massage or something. I would also write down some weird thoughts I was having and had created quite a diary!
This past week Ambien has let me down. I take it and don't feel a thing. I don't feel tired, good, or massaged. I take two and still no feeling.
I take no more than two for fear of overdose.
IS this common? Should I skip a night and then go back to it and see if the normalcy comes back?

If you take sleeping pills for too long, they tend to have the opposite effect... who would have thunk it.

that is one.. of the reasons.. I take ambien/trazadone combo...

the ambien.. puts me to sleep... and the trazadone keeps me there..

trazadone alone.. makes me very ill.. dizzy...

so it's been several years.. the combo... for the most part works.

I felt like Ambien wasn't working as well for me as it used to. I went 3 nights without taking any sleeping meds. I slept horribly for 2 of those nights and ok for 1. Now I'm back to taking it every night again and it seems to be working better.

I know what you mean about the brain massage. That's a good way to put it. It reminds me of the old days when I could actually just get tired and go to sleep.

Yeah, you should be having at least one or two Ambien-free days a week.

On the other hand, if it has completely stopped working, you might want to try Seroquel. It makes you sleepy within an hour.

halliebeth, i've actually taken restoril. didn't do a thing for me, i was on 10 mg but i often took more so it would work, only it didn't, even at 60 or 80 mg. but that might be because i had been sent to the psych ward due to a xanax overdose and maybe that's why restoril had no effect on me.

I was taking ambien and did well for 6 months then it was taking longer to get to sleep. I ran out now and the doc put me on trazodone and I took just 1 50 mg and did was horrible. It took hours to get to sleep and woke up many times, and the next day I was in and out of naps all day long. It took over 24 hours for me to feel normal and not be dizzy and headaches and other problems. I still have 29 pills but I don't want to use them.
