ummm

i have had some bad overreactions to things lately, like when I misplace something and can't find it - I have been getting really upset and panicking and getting myself into quite a state. Like, I lost my keys and totally freaked out (crying, head spinning, weird feeling) the other day.

This is happened before but it tended to be triggered by little things, getting stupidly upset, which is part of depression (or so i always thought).

now i have the depression under control but the weird panicky thing has happened when i've been stressed out quite a few times lately.

i might just be being drama queen but it's odd and i feel so stupid Anxiety question

I overreact myself..for me, it was because of separation from children I parented, that in one second they were taken away from me, and every little thing that happens reminds me of that thing that happened. Was there something in your life that suddenly happened that hurt you? That's great that you've conquered the depression, that's more than hardly any of us can say..how did you do it and can you apply those techniques and strategies toward handling the little things?

<font color="green"> DSF,

Please tell your t what is happening. It sounds like you are having panic attacks and there are good meds out there who can help you.

Hugs,

Kava kava is anxiolytic. Magnesium can be generally calming, but niacinamide is more immediate. So is the amino acid taurine.

If you want to try niacinamide, first make sure that you get the amide form of this vitamin. Plain niacin has the opposite effect. You can take up to 500 mg niacinamide up to four times a day.

Taurine is very simlar in structure to GABA, and has a similar inhibitory effect in the brain. And, unlike GABA, taurine crosses the blood/brain barrier. You can take up to 2 grams of taurine at a time, but I'd try 500 mg or 1000 first.

Valerian helps reduce anxiety. The only problem is that it can cause drowsiness and it smells like dirty socks. It's been one of the most widely used anti-anxiety remedies for thousands of years.
I use Skullcap myself, a potent brand which produces a nice relaxed feeling. I take it on an as needed basis and it also makes a good substitute for alcohol. It's been said though that it has sometimes in the past been tainted with another herb which is known to harm the liver, so I only by from more well known sources.

What pharmaceuticals are you already taking? My husband, while being treated for depression, became really physically anxious while taking Welbutrin. They changed his medication to Lexapro and the anxiety disappeared. It could be that you're on the wrong meds, not that you need more.

Why don't you want to see a therapist? Natural remedies or not, I would think that therapy would go a longer way toward a permanent cure than self-medicating.

LMo, I don't know whether your question was directed at me or not. But anyway, I've never taken any pharmaceuticals for anxiety or depression and never will. What I know about them through a great deal of self education scares me to no end. I go all natural. For depression, I take Rosemary capsules. This herb is an ancient treatment for memory problems and depression. It really makes a difference for me. I supplement that with Cayenne and Ginseng for energy. In addition to that, the Cayenne cured my acid reflux. Sounds funny but it's actually great for the digestive system, not to mention the immune system. If I get the flu at all, it's been so mild and I fight it off in a couple of days. The side effects I get from alternative meds are health benefits. To each his own, I guess. I don't know about therapy. Seems so many keep doing it and keep having problems. Right now, my self esteem is probably the highest it's ever been. A special friend of mine, who I had feared was ignoring me becaue of my "looks", has shown that those fears were completely wrong. She really believes in me and it's done wonders. I'm not used to having nothing to complain about. lol

no - sorry - it was for drunksunflower. Sorry Guy!

(although I do have to say that Lexapro has done wonders for both my husband and for me!)

I am just not really comfortable with the idea, i know a lot about cognitive behavioural therapy from my degrees, so i do utilise that knowledge ...

re medication, Citilopram (or Celexa to you, I think). i just stopped taking it about a week ago to see what happens when i don't take it. it has a really long halflife (8-12 days) so i guess i will find out in another couple of weeks what happens.

i might just go all natural again (used to take SJW and it helped quite a lot at some stage) and take up some of the other suggestions in this thread.

thanks for the replies Anxiety question

AngelGirl, I have to say the natural things have been helping to relieve the symptoms of depression and anxiety for quite some time, however the change in attitude (which I'm hoping will last) is the result of something else, something in which meds, natural or prescription, can not do. One thing people have to understand about any kind of meds is that they only treat the symptoms and not the actual problem itself.
