Just gonna lay it out there. I know it ain't as bad as what some of you are going thru, but right now it's hell for me. I threw my lower back, hip and shin out at the gym on Friday. I am in so much f'ing pain. I am flat on my back and can barely get back and forth to the bathroom. So I can't work out tomorrow. This is major for me, I obsess about working out and my weight. I'm gonna be huge by the end of the week. To top it all off...how am I gonna make T on Tues? I can't freaking move. I can't go to doc, my primary care sux. I want to do the chiro, but don't think I can get there in this much pain he wouldn't work on me. I need the gym...and I actually think I may need T as well. I am starting to enjoy having someone to talk to. This is stupid, I know .... but I am so pissed off. I need drugs...pain pills, muscle relaxers...anything. I just downed 4 Mike's...still no relief. UGH!

Eileen what type of exercise did you do at the gym to cause those injuries?

It sounds like you are in allot of pain and you are in a downward spiral emotionally. From your words it sounds like you exercise to excess and your obsessed about your weight???? Your PCP should be able to evaluate your injuries and then refer you to appropriate dr. or physical therapy and some pain meds. Have you had these injuries before? A heating pad can also work wonders or a thermacare wrap (they are heating pads that fit under your clothes - you can find them at any drugstore, walmart etc... - not cheap but very effective when you can't be lying on the couch all day).

I hope you can get some help soon. I too have had back pain and it's no picnic!

Feel better soon!

I'm sorry, that really sucks. Pain like that is serious and can definitely impact us emotionally, no need to apologize or minimize what you're going through!

I hope you feel better tomorrow so you can return to the gym and especially get to T on Tues.

Eileen, I'm sorry you're in so much pain!
Did you call your dr.? Maybe you need RX meds. Drugstores deliver. If you can't get to therapy, maybe a phone session would be better than nothing. I've had a couple in the past and they were good. I don't think it's a good idea to go back to the gym so soon, though I don't think you want to hear that.

I hope you feel better tomorrow!!! Meanwhile, is there someone around to help you?

How about trying a hot bath? That has helped me with really bad pain before. It helps the muscles relax, which can help with the pain. Also, have you tried OTC meds like ibuprofen? I hope you can get some relief.

Thanks for the love everyone, I really needed that!

I think I did it on the leg press. I'm thinking I pulled a disc in my lower back, that's the only thing that would explain the pain surging into my hip and down the front of my shin. It really feels more like nerve pain then muscular pain.

I am allergic to ibuprofen unfortunately, so I am using Tylenol. I am laying flat with heat/ice under my back, and I have my legs lifted up by several pillows. Kind of a mickey moused traction. It relieves the pain a lot, but when I get up...HOLY CRAP!

Ow, Eileen, back injuries are the pits. two finger hugs so as not to press on what hurts

disclaimer: the following is a personal experience, not an ad, and I have no connections to the company mentioned whatsoever except as customer!!

Some years ago I tried to pick up a stone sculpture and really screwed up my sacroiliac. It hurt so much to lie down that I tried staying up for days and was risking falling down from fatigue.
I called my local Relax the Back store ( http://www.relaxtheback.com )and ordered a zero gravity chair. They brought it same day and showed me how to get in andout of it and I was really amazed at how much it helped with the pain. I slept in that chair for a month till I was better.
It was expensive but I don't know what I would have done without it. Since that time both my husband and I have used it again and again, and it has paid for itself many times over. I wonder if this might be an option for you?
BTW I didn't wait to look into this for myself, but I am hearing that doctors sometimes prescribe these chairs, in which case insurance will cover part or all of the cost. Good luck

Ouch! I avoid the leg press for that very reason. My back hurts when I use that machine. It could also possilbly be your sciatic nerve? Your pcp will be able to diagnose.

As for the urge to have to exercise as someone mentioned calling your T would be a great idea.

Hoping you feel better soon!

Hi everyone....I made it to T today Still in a boatload of pain. T got me to call my primary and I have an apt. tomorrow. I am trying to get my H to go with, since my doc treats me like crap because of my "mental illness". Maybe H can get him to take me seriously. I did go to the gym, but I just did the reclining bike for a mile, no crunches or weights. I have to admit it was painful, but knowing I tried beats knowing I didn't try.

I think that it's awesome that you went to the gym and modified your work-out to help you manage taking care of yourself despite the pain you feel. I also think it's great that your h is going alone to help out, hopefully it all works out!
Thanks for this!

well the doc sent me for xrays. I'll know more tomorrow. No pain meds...dam! Pisses me off because I have only asked for something for the pain once in the 10 yrs. he's known me...and that was for a torn rotator cuff....didn't get them then either. The guy thinks schizophrenia and PTSD means addict. Arg. Hopefully he'll refer me to a back guy so I can get this figured out.

Hmm while I hope there's nothing seriously wrong, I do hope it's something that shows on the xrays and that you'll receive the pain med you need?

No sympathy but plenty of empathy!

And ... don't worry about whether your pain is as bad as mine or someone else's because pain is subjective, and if it's limiting your life, it's bad enough, you know?
