I thought Andy Travis was kinda cute. I didn't think Johnny Fever was very cute but I really identified with his stoner qualities. Then there was that dorky guy with the plaid pants but I can't remember his name!

Conversation with my therapist:

Doc: "You know, for the past few weeks you've seemed very disconnected from your emotions when you're here."
Me: "I'm not disconnected from my emotions. I just don't feel anything when I'm here."
(Pause)
Me: "Doc, why are you banging your head against the arm of your chair?"
Doc: "Because I'm not close enough to a wall."

It's official. I can even make therapists crazy.

One for my baby and one more for the road.

If only I knew any music written or sung after the 1950s.

You do, just not your favorites...

Baby it's cold outside...
My mother will start to worry
My father will be pacing the floor
Really I'd better scurry
Well maybe just a half a drink more..

God, the crush I had on her. Mm. I felt such a connection to Dr. Johnny Fever. The nascent stoner in me knew we saw the world the same way. He just wanted to be left alone, and when I was a child I told my parents I didn't want any friends in our neighborhood because they might come over and want attention when I was napping. I remember the victory I felt for him when he finally got money and was so excited about his see-through soap. And I loved the episode where the cop was trying to show how people's reaction time slows down when they drink, and Johnny's kept getting faster.

Head of the Class was such a disappointment to me.
Hugs from:

Herb Tarlek--that's from memory mind you. No wikipedia necessary. We only had antennae tv when I was growing up, but we could only really receive PBS and one UHF channel that seemed to have rights to very few shows, one of which was WKRP. So, it was Austin City Limits or WKRP. WKRP won, and it was a secular program that I was actually allowed to watch without supervision, so it really served as a vital connection to something other that the fundamentalist culture I was surrounded by. And, then, when I got a little older, my sister moved to california, got cable, and sent me VHS tapes of The Simpsons. Those were treasures that shaped me. Huh.

Oh those shows and this tiny local comedy show on MN PBS hosted by a character named Dr. Sphincter. I just checked youtube and was so pleased to find some clips of him. Holy memories, Batman! Here he is singing Jingle Bells:

I remember this one!
Thanks for this!

Yes, I working SO hard. NOT! We are off from school today. I have a birthday gift certificate to a Salon/Spa to get a Swedish Massage and facial. I think I might do that today. It sounds very productive! Not sure about the naked part, though.

OMG! I loved Dinosaurs, where the Mr Science dinosaur kept blowing up his kid assistant and then yelling to off-camera, "We're gonna need another Timmy!" Also, there was a late-night tv ad, where a guy with a microphone goes up to a woman in a grocery store parking lot and says, "Please don't think I'm crazy, lady..." and the lady goes, "Crazy Lady - Crazy Lady Pantyhose? I love 'em! I wear 'em! Look, I just bought some today! Where's the camera?!" I have NO IDEA what the product actually was! But I LOVED that ad! For obvious reasons! hey - I found it!

I remember watching the dinasours as a kid with my dad. Don't actually remember that many specifics since I was really young, but I loved that no matter what happen the famous "I'm the baby you gotta love me" phrase.

I used to scream that as we were watching it! My nephew was like 5, I was in my early 40's? My mother had always insisted on calling me baby, a sore point between us. they would always look at me funny when I was screaming this - I was just having fun with the kid, ya know? fun auntie hankster? but looking back, I think they felt guilty. GOTTA love me, i'm the BABY.

Yep..."Hurling Day" is a holiday in which the son in laws get to throw their mother in laws off a cliff into a tar pit when they turn 72...

I liked that show when the baby would hit the dad in the head with a frying pan yelling...not the mama...not the mama..
Thanks for this!
