Lola- ((hugs)) and I will refrain from saying anything in response to what your w said to you about your job. Grrrr!

Good morning all.. Pretty sure I have strep now too. Thanks to my kids for sharing their germs.
I am supposed to take the kids out shoe shopping today because they both complain about how their toes hurt when I am put their shoes on them, lol. Seriously, why'd they have to go through a growth spurt at the same time??

Have a good day couch friends.

Morning all. I was hoping we would get blood tests results back for my daughter yesterday. She has had mono multiple times and gets every single illness that goes around. Last year she had every test for everything the pediatrician and specialist could think of, but now I've been trying to get them to refer her to an immunologist. The pediatrician wanted new blood tests first. The tests are complete but the nurse said the doctor didn't want to discuss them until she heard back from a specialist at the local children's hospital. Trying not to imagine the worst and just get thru the weekend.

LC - I am sorry to hear w said such a horrible thing to you. It is not true.

Healed - uck. I used to get strep throat all the time - it is painful. Sorry to hear you all have it.

MKAC - I hope all is well with the tests.

Granite - it sounds like you are packing for a major expedition.

Everyone have a good saturday. OR as reasonably not bad a saturday as can be expected under the circumstances.

I hope all is well with your daughter, MKAC.

Healed, boo on having strep! I used to get it a couple of times a year in high school and I remember it being one of the most painful things ever.

Art, I'm sorry your husband responded that way. I imagine it doesn't feel like a very loving reaction.

I have to go out of town this weekend for a conference. Eleven hours of driving to give a twenty minute presentation. Sigh.

Sorry I was so self absorbed earlier. Healed, hope you and the kids feel better. Ready, I hope things start improving again with you husband.

Granite I hope the trip goes well and you can avoid the mother.

Art, I haven't had a chance to read your poem, but I am sorry about your H's reaction. Some people get unnerved by dark poetry.

Lola, well, you know my opinion about your W, but I am sorry she continues to be that way.

Art - I am sorry your husband did not have a better response. I admit I never know what to do or say when I read someone's poetry. I either don't understand it (I am not big on poetry other than trying to play with it as a technique to feel better and usually the parody of styles sort of thing) or I just don't have an emotional response to it. I probably would respond to a poem my partner gave me to read the same way as your husband. I try to be more enthusiastic, but I am not and so it comes off false, which she does not like either (I understand her not liking it - but I can be real and show I have no real response, or I can be fake and try to give her what she wants - I feel trapped). When I am the most successful is when being supportive of her writing it is the focus rather than the poem itself.

Just to give a perspective from a bad poetry reader/even worse partner.

MKAC, you are NOT self-absorbed!! Quite the opposite, I think.

Hope you and the kids feel better soon, healed.

I'm waiting for my friend to call. We are supposed to run 8 miles today. I'm watching the kids play with Legos.

JCO -Joyce Carol Oates?

I do not dislike this poem by Phillip Lopate (feel free to respond to me with uncomprehending blank stares and sad head shaking at me after reading it - it would be the least I deserve):

We who are
your closest friends
feel the time
has come to tell you
that every Thursday
we have been meeting,
as a group,
to devise ways
to keep you
in perpetual uncertainty
frustration
discontent and
torture
by neither loving you
as much as you want
nor cutting you adrift.
Your analyst is
in on it,
plus your boyfriend
and your ex-husband;
and we have pledged
to disappoint you
as long as you need us.
In announcing our
association
we realize we have
placed in your hands
a possible antidote
against uncertainty
indeed against ourselves.
But since our Thursday nights
have brought us
to a community
of purpose
rare in itself
with you as
the natural center,
we feel hopeful you
will continue to make unreasonable
demands for affection
if not as a consequence
of your disastrous personality
then for the good of the collective.

I enjoy the part about "if not as a consequence of your disastrous personality"
No, really, I do.
