My psychiatrist diagnosed me with bipolar disorder after having treated me and seen me cycle over the period of about a year. Previously my diagnosis was major depression but the rapid cycling clarified my diagnosis (a very common problem with bipolar disorder). I also have PTSD. It was diagnosed many years ago by a previous therapist.

I was diagnosed by different psychologists and psychiatrists. Most of my diagnoses came from a psychiatrist though.

I was diagnosed by a psychiatrist, though, like many others, I was already searching and figured out part of it already.
Thanks for this!

I haven't asked my doctor for a diagnosis. My T (who is in private practice) thinks labels aren't very useful, and that the DSM-V is a load of rubbish. He says a lot of things are spectrums and we're all on there somewhere.

I consider myself to have CPTSD, but nobody has formally diagnosed this.

Same here. My therapists do not like to label. I consider myself C-PSTD and the Bulimia and self-harm are side effects from them. I have not seen a Pdoc and do not care to see one.

Me too sorta. As a child, I was diagnosed with ADHD by multiple different psychiatrists officially. One of them also diagnosed me with adjustment disorder. However, I was 12 years old when that diagnosis was made and I didn't open up about the abuse I experienced until I was 18. My therapist and I suspect that the diagnosis of adjustment was incorrect and was actually c-PTSD. It isn't completely clear. We know I have some sort of anxiety problem, but it may not totally fit the criteria for PTSD.

I was also diagnosed with binge eating disorder by an obesity specialist at 15. The diagnosis was changed to EDNOS after I had bariatric surgery because I'm not physically capable of binging anymore

So officially, ADHD and EDNOS. Probable anxiety issue like c-PTSD
Thanks for this!

My current T (the only T I ever had) is also a psychiatrist and neurologist; he diagnosed me with chronic depression along with some other secondary stuff.
Thanks for this!

I've only ever worked with T's , never been to a PDOC. So my T diagnosed me. First T many years ago I think diagnosed me with Depression. Current T diagnosed me with PTSD. I have plenty of other issues but that's my only official diagnosis. T doesn't like to deal to much with diagnosis.
Thanks for this!

My T, who is a psychologist diagnosed me, but I pretty much knew what I was dealing with already. Before going to see a pdoc, my T had me take an assessment test, which backed up her diagnosis and what I already knew. Up to that point, we'd never really talked in concrete terms about a diagnosis.

My T and I talked about this some more today and he reiterated his view that labels aren't that useful. He is pretty critical of the tendency to turn seemingly everything into a personality disorder in the DSM, and proceeded to jokingly diagnose me with Hair Movement Disorder as I had just brushed my hair back. Which I found funny, as he knew I would.

My pdoc and my psychologist, but they don't have the exact same diagnosis' for me, but they compliment each other and/or mean the same thing, really.
I find it useful because I want to know what my insurance company is seeing me as and because I am getting ready to apply for disability. But I would want to know anyway.
Thanks for this!

My t refuses to give labels also.

However she has 'diagnosed' me with depression and anorexia in the past.

I was diagnosed by a psychiatrist. Before I was 'officially' diagnosed, a social worker and counsellor suspected I had ASD and an anxiety disorder.

A diagnosis can be helpful for accessing appropriate services.

My T is not into diagnoses so he doesn't really talk about this with me. After a couple of years of therapy we discussed some symptoms he thought might be ADHD so he referred me for assessment for that to a psychiatric nurse practitioner. I went to see her and she did diagnose me with ADHD. It was good to see her for this assessment because she can also prescribe, whereas my T could just do behavioral work with me on that. I believe if I asked my T my primary diagnosis, he would say PTSD.

to be honest, i knew my condition but my T and pdoc didn't say anything about it. it was until when i saw them writing my diagnosis on the hospital case files as MDD. even so, when i asked my T (my pdoc and T are colleagues so they work hand in hand) about my diagnosis she said this...

"well we don't really have a diagnosis.. we just put it because the hospital wants one. but on consensus, we agree that you are depressed."

till today i'm not sure whether it's MDD or dysthymia.. but i guess hearing that is enough.

I was diagnosed many years ago with Major Depression at an impatient facility by a psychiatrist.

Then Bipolar by a psychiatrist (after 20 minutes of talking with me!). This was a misdiagnosis.

I've now been 'labeled' as having C-PTSD. Although this isn't an actual real diagnosis for insurance purposes. So they are actually Major Depression, PTSD, DD-NOS, BPD, Social Anxiety, and Agoraphobia with Panic Attacks.

All that makes up my C-PTSD!

A psychologist did this after a lot of assessments and testing. I feel it fits well.

I find a lot of psychiatrists are quick to label without taking into consideration a persons trauma.
